During a straight driving and cornering maneuver by a vehicle various forces and moments are exerted on the tire's footprint. A cornering properties, handling and stability performances of vehicle can be predicted by these forces and moments values. Therefore, on this study, a lateral force and a aligning torque are predicted by these forces and moments values. Therefore, on this study, a lateral force and a aligning torque are predicted using a finite element method. Contact area of the tire between bead and wheel are fixed to simplify of a finite element model. Lateral force is exerted on the rigid surface as a real load with Coulum friction after inflate and load vertically. Then, rotate the tire's axle to simulate a free rolling untill taken the equilibrium of a aligning torque. Also, experimental observations are made to test a reliability of a FE analysis conducted in this study. The finite element analysis said that good agreement was obtained with experimental results of these cornering properties, giving confidence within about one percent. So it os recommended that a finite element analysis can be used as a good tool to predicted the tire cornering properties.
Prediction of prestressed concrete girder integral abutment bridge (IAB) load effect requires understanding of the inherent uncertainties as it relates to thermal loading, time-dependent effects, bridge material properties and soil properties. In addition, complex inelastic and hysteretic behavior must be considered over an extended, 75-year bridge life. The present study establishes IAB displacement and internal force statistics based on available material property and soil property statistical models and Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical models within the simulation were developed to evaluate the 75-year bridge displacements and internal forces based on 2D numerical models that were calibrated against four field monitored IABs. The considered input uncertainties include both resistance and load variables. Material variables are: (1) concrete elastic modulus; (2) backfill stiffness; and (3) lateral pile soil stiffness. Thermal, time dependent, and soil loading variables are: (1) superstructure temperature fluctuation; (2) superstructure concrete thermal expansion coefficient; (3) superstructure temperature gradient; (4) concrete creep and shrinkage; (5) bridge construction timeline; and (6) backfill pressure on backwall and abutment. IAB displacement and internal force statistics were established for: (1) bridge axial force; (2) bridge bending moment; (3) pile lateral force; (4) pile moment; (5) pile head/abutment displacement; (6) compressive stress at the top fiber at the mid-span of the exterior span; and (7) tensile stress at the bottom fiber at the mid-span of the exterior span. These established IAB displacement and internal force statistics provide a basis for future reliability-based design criteria development.
The current from the feed motor of a machine tool contains substantial information about the machining state. There have been many researches that investigated the current as a measure for the cutting forces. However it has not been reported that indirect measurement of the cutting forces from the current of the feed motor at rest is possible. The cutting force normal to the machined surface influences the machined surface of the workpiece, which makes it necessary to estimate this force to control the roughness of the machined surface. But the unpredictable behavior of the current prevents applying the current to prediction of the cutting state. In this paper, empirical approach was conducted to resolve the problem. Also parametric adaptive and fuzzy logic control strategies are applied to the force regulation problem. As a result, the current is shown to be related to the accumulation of the infinitesimal rotation of the motor, and besides the unpredictable behavior of the current is shown to be caused by the relationship. Subsequently the relationship between the current and the cutting force is identified, and it is presented that control of machined surface using the current of the feed motor at rest is possible.
This paper is concered on the development of low-cost fine blanking die with two fluid chambers of which the pressure can be controlled by a hydraulic unit and its application to producting circular blanks in a conventional hydraulic press, not in a special triple-action press usually adopte in fine blanking operation. Four important working parameters affecting on the precision accuracy of products such as existence and position of Vee-ring, stripping force and counter punching force are primarily considered for experiments. Finite element analysis by suing ABAQUA software is approxi- mately made for blanking of circular specimen with a flat stripper plate and then compared with experimental measurements. The the theoretical prediction of camber height which represents deflection of a dish-shaped specimen after blanking seems to give a qualitatively good agreement. It is shown through experiments the the camber height decreases with decreasing stripping force and also with increasing counter punching force, but particularly depending on the latter much more than the former.
In configuring an automated polishing system, a monitoring scheme to estimate the surface roughness is necessary. In this study, a precision polishing process, magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF), along with an in-process monitoring setup was investigated. A magnetic tooling is connected to a CNC machining to polish the surface of stavax(S136) die steel workpieces. During finishing experiments, both AE signals and force signals were sampled and analysed. The finishing results show that MAF has nano scale finishing capability (upto 8nm in surface roughness) and the sensor signals have strong correlations with the parameters such as gap between the tool and workpiece, feed rate and abrasive size. In addition, the signals were utilized as the input parameters of artificial neural networks to predict generated surface roughness. Among the three networks constructed -AE rms input, force input, AE+force input- the ANN with sensor fusion (AE+force) produced most stable results. From above, it has been shown that the proposed sensor fusion scheme is appropriate for the monitoring and prediction of the nano scale precision finishing process.
Since cross-feed directional cutting force which is normal to machined surface directly influences the machined surface of the workpiece and total force loaded in cutter, it is necessary to estimate this force to control the roughness of the machined surface and total force in cutter. However, there have been difficulties in using the current existing in a stationary motor for cutting state prediction because of some unpredictable behavior of the current. Empirical approach was conducted to resolve the problem. As a result, we showed that the current and its unpredictable behavior are related to the infinitesimal rotation of the motor. Subsequently, the relationship between the current and the cutting force was identified with the error less than 50%. And, the estimation results of the two machine tools with different characteristics were compared to each other to confirm the validity of the presented estimation method and the characteristics of current of the stationary feed motor.
Accurate prediction of the radiated noise is important to reduce the noise of the washing machine. It is also necessary to predict the excitation force accurately because excitation force can induce noise. In order to predict the excitation force acting on the washing machine, this paper conducts source identification method by use of phase reference spectrum. In this method, the transfer function between the cabinet and the motor through FEM and the measured response from the surface of the cabinet is used. The analysis of the radiation noise from the identified exciting force has been investigated. The comparison between the predicted SPL and the measured SPL at 1m apart from the front side of the washing machine showed good tendency.
This paper deals with the process to identify the exciting forces generated from a rotary compressor. The equation of motion of a rigid compressor supported by several mounts was derived with 6 degree of freedom. The mass moment of inertia of compressor and the stiffness of rubber mounts were also identified by experiments. The exciting force at the center of mass of the compressor were estimated from the acceleration data measured at compressor shell. The piping system connected to the compressor was modeled. The acceleration of a pipe was predicted numerically by using the predicted exciting force. The numerical results showed good agreement with experimental results, which validated the identified exciting force.
