Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of taping technique applied to knee instability. Design: Cross sectional study. Methods: Twenty-six participants with knee instabilityparticipated in this study. They were randomly assigned to the Kinesio taping (KT) group (n=13) and the dynamic taping (DT) group (n=13). Both groups applied knee stabilization taping techniques. In order to compare the effects of each taping technique, the change in the landing error scoring system (LESS) and lower extremity joint angle wasrecorded before and after the intervention. Results: Both groups significantly decreased in the change before and after the LESS (p<0.05). At the joint angle of the lower extremities, KT group significantly reduced the valgus angle at the max knee flexion (p<0.05). In DT group knee joint flexion and hip joint flexion angles were significantly increased at foot contact (p<0.05). In max knee flexion, the knee joint flexion angle was significantly increased (p<0.05). In foot contact, max knee flexion, the knee joint valgus angle was significantly increased (p<0.05). DT group showed more significant changes in knee joint flexion angle at foot contact and hip joint flexion angle at max knee flexion. Conclusions: Dynamic taping is a clinically applicable intervention method for lowering the risk of non-contact injury in participants with knee instability and for knee stability during rehabilitation exercises.
To investigate the effects of independent suspension technology(IST) of hiking boot on the stability and load of foot, eight participants performed medial and lateral drop landing from 33.4cm height and 85cm distance to uneven surface while wearing normal & IST hiking boots. For the stability of foot during the drop landing, the balance angle & suspension angle and rearfoot angle was analyzed using high-speed video analysis. Also kinetic analysis using the force plate and insole pressure measurement was conducted to analyze vertical & breaking ground reaction force and pressure distribution. Not only the balance angle & suspension angle but also rearfoot angle was improved with IST boots for lateral drop landing. These results indicate the IST boots may have the suspension function which keeps the foot to be stable during landing. However the IST boots did not show any effect for medial landing. This might be related to the hardness of medial part of outsole. Therefore the softer outsole of medial part could be recommended. Furthermore the impact force & breaking force and insole pressure were reduced with IST boot. These results means that IST boot has not only cushioning effect but also good grip effect. Therefore the hiking boots applied the independent suspension function may help to reduce fatigue and prevent injury such as ankle sprain in hiking on uneven surface.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinematic factors and throwing variables for the 3-turn and 4-turn techniques and for release as well as to provide technical advice for improving athletic performance in hammer throwing. Data analysis led to the following conclusions: To increase the rotation speed for the 3-turn and 4-turn techniques, the time elapsed during the 1-foot support period should be decreased the distance between the rotating foot and the rotation axis should be small and the height of the hip joint should be increased at the times of release The throwing angle at the moment of release should be more than 40 degrees, and the throwing position should be taken vertically high at the shoulder joints. To accelerate the motion of the hammer, the speed should not be reduced during the 1-foot support period but should be increased during the 2-foot support period for much greater acceleration. In the 3-turn technique, the angles of the shoulder axis and hummer string should be dragged angle at the maximum point and lead angle at the minimum point, and dragged angle at the maximum and minimum points in the 4-turn at the time of relase The upper body should be quickly bent backward, the knee angle should be extended, and the angles of the shoulder axis and hammer string should be dragged angle close to 90 degrees.
Purpose: The author evaluated the clinical and radiological results after wearing the medial arch supports in children. Materials and Methods: 103 patients who had symptomatic flat feet were evaluated from march, 2002 to may 2009. All patients wore the medial arch supports according to the symptoms. We measured parameters at weight-bearing radiographs before and after medial arch support were worn. We also evaluated the clinical scores using the AOFAS score. Results: Mean age of patients was 97 months (11-204 months), all foot of patients involved bilaterally. Mean talo-first metatarsal angle of right foot was $17.7{\pm}9.4$ and left foot was $19.96{\pm}9.5$ degrees at AP radiograph in pre-wearing state. Mean calcaneal pitch angle of right foot was $12.0{\pm}5.3$ and left foot was $11.9{\pm}5.8$ degrees at lateral radiograph in pre-wearing state. Mean talo-first metatarsal angle of right foot was $14.4{\pm}8.05$ and left foot was $13.1{\pm}8.77$ degrees at AP radiograph in post-wearing state. Mean calcaneal pitch angle of right foot was $16.4{\pm}5.75$ left foot was $16.5{\pm}5.6$ degrees at lateral radiograph in post-wearing state. The radiographic angles between pre-wearing and post-wearing state were statistically significant (p<0.05). Mean pre-wearing AOFAS hindfoot score was $66.7{\pm}9.25$, midfoot score was $60.0{\pm}9.34$ forefoot score was $57.1{\pm}11.8$. Mean post-wearing AOFAS hindfoot score was $73.2{\pm}9.73$, midfoot score was $68.1{\pm}10.1$, forefoot score was $67.2{\pm}11.4$. The forefoot score was highest improving scores among the AOFAS scores. Conclusion: From our study, we concluded that medial arch support was effective for symptomatic flat feet of children in radiological and clinical results from our study.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the gait parameter and plantar foot pressure of adults with Down syndrome(DS) during walking in order to provide data for developing evidence-based deficit or common rehabilitation strategies. Method : 15 participants with DS(12 men, 3 women; age $26.06{\pm}4.47$) and 15 healthy subjects(12 men, 3 women; age $25.33{\pm}3.43$) were matched age. They walked at self selected speeds on a GAITRite system and RS-scan system, and had the following measurements done: cadence, stride length, step width, foot angle, percent stance, percent double support, and plantar foot pressure in 10 areas of the foot. Results : In comparison of gait parameter(cadence, stride length, step width, foot angle, percent stance, and percent double support) between adults with DS and healthy subjects, there was significant differences(p<.05). Regarding plantar foot pressure during gait with or without DS, there were statisically significant differences in the area of Toes 1-5, Metatasal 1-4, Midfoot, and Heel(Medial and lateral)(p<.05). Conclusion : Our data show that DS walk with a less physiolosical gait pattern and plantar foot pressure than healthy subjects. Based on our results, DS patients need targeted rehabilitation and exercise strategies.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the foot pressure of subjects with hallux valgus following conservative management. Methods: The subjects (20 females) were divided into 2 groups; Hallux valgus group (10) and Control group (10) who could evaluate questionnaire & weight bearing X-ray. All the participants were evaluated distribution of foot pressure by Zebris FDM-S system with conservative management (taping therapy and hallux valgus device) during single-limb stance. Results: The Hallux valgus group (HVG) was significantly different than Control group (CG) in hallux valgus angle(p<0.05). The Hallux valgus group with Foot Device (HVG-FD), Hallux valgus group with Taping (HVG-Tp) and Hallux valgus group with Foot device and Taping (HVG-FD&Tp) was not significantly different than CG in hallux valgus angle (p<0.05). The HVG was not significantly different than CG in forefoot (p1, p2, p3), significantly different than CG in rearfoot (p7) about foot pressure during single-limb stance (p<0.05). The HVG-FO and HVG-FO and TP was significantly different than HVG in forefoot (p1, p2, p3), on significantly different than HVG in rearfoot (p7) about foot pressure during single-limb stance (p<0.05). There was significantly correlation HVG-FO and HVG-FO & TP in forefoot (p1, p2, p3) was negative correlation (p<0.05) and in rearfoot (p7) was positive correlation (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that hallux valgus were effected hallux valgus angle and foot pressure by various treatment methods during single-limb stance. Further study is needed to measure various age and work with hallux valgus for clinical application.
This study was performed to investigate the kinematic and kinetic differences between functional walking shoe(FWS) and general sports shoe(GSS). The subjects for this study were 4 male adults who had the walking pattern of rearfoot strike with normal feet. The movement of one lower leg was measured using force platform and 3 video cameras while the subjects walked at the velocity of 2/1.5 m/s. The findings of this study were as follows 1. The angle of lower leg-ground and angle of knee with FWS was greater than with GSS at the moment of strike the floor and the moment of second peak ground reaction force. The decreasing rate of angle of ankle was smaller in FWS from the strike phase to the second peak ground reaction force. These mean upright walking and round walking along the shoe surface. 2. The maximal Increased angle of Achilles tendon and the minimal decreased angle of rearfoot were smaller in FWS very significantly(p<0.001). Thus FWS prevent the excessive pronation of ankle and have good of rear-foot control. 3. The vortical ground reaction force and the rate of it to the BW were smaller in FWS statistically(p<0.001). The loading rate was smaller in FWS, too, and thess represent the reduction of load on ankle joint and prevention of injuries on it.
