Bio-heavy oil for power generation is a product made by mixing animal fat, vegetable oil and fatty acid methyl ester or its residues and is being used as steam heavy fuel(B-C) for power generation in Korea. However, if the fuel supply system of the fuel pump, the flow pump, the injector, etc., which is transferred to the boiler of the generator due to the composition of the raw material of the bio-heavy oi, causes abrasive wear, it can cause serious damage. Therefore, this study evaluates the fuel characteristics and lubricity properties of various raw materials of bio-heavy oil for power generation, and suggests fuel composition of biofuel for power generation to reduce frictional wear of generator. The average value of lubricity (HFRR abrasion) for bio-heavy oil feedstocks for power generation is $137{\mu}m$, and it varies from $60{\mu}m$ to $214{\mu}m$ depending on the raw materials. The order of lubricity is Oleo pitch> BD pitch> CNSL> Animal fat> RBDPO> PAO> Dark oil> Food waste oil. The average lubricity for the five bio-heavy oil samples is $151{\mu}m$ and the distribution is $101{\mu}m$ to $185{\mu}m$. The order of lubricity is Fuel 1> Fuel 3> Fuel 4> Fuel 2> Fuel 5. Bio-heavy oil samples (average $151{\mu}m$) show lower lubricity than heavy oil C ($128{\mu}m$). It is believed that bio-heavy oil for power generation is composed of fatty acid material, which is lower in paraffin and aromatics content than heavy oil(B-C) and has a low viscosity and high acid value, resulting in inhibition of the formation of lubricating film by acidic component. Therefore, in order to reduce friction and abrasion, it is expected to increase the lubrication of fuel when it contains more than 60% Oleo pitch and BD pitch as raw materials of bio-heavy oil for power generation.
Transesterifications of waste oils mixed with animal tallows and vegetable oil by ultrasonic energy were examined over various catalysts for biodiesel production. Reaction activities of the transesterification were evaluated to the ultrasonic energy and thermal energy. The physicochemical properties of feedstock and products were also investigated to the biodiesels produced from the oils in the reaction using ultrasonic energy. The highest fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) yield was obtained on the potassium hydroxide catalyst in the transesterification by ultrasonic irradiation. The effective reaction conditions by ultrasonic energy were 0.5 wt% catalyst loading and 6:1 molar ratio of methanol to the mixed oils. The reaction rate of the transesterification by ultrasonic energy was faster than that by thermal energy. The highest yields of FAME were obtained as 80% in 5 min and the reaction equilibrium reached at that time.
Biodegradation of fat, oil, and grease (FOGs) plays an Important role in wastewater management and water pollution control. However, many industrial food-processing and food restaurants generate FOG-containing waste waters for which there Is no acceptable technology for their pretreatment. To solve these problems, this study evaluated the feasibility of effective FOG-degrading microorganisms on the biodegradation of olive oil and FOG-containing wastewater. Twenty-two strains capable of degrading FOGs were isolated from five FOG-contaminated sites for the evaluation of their FOG degradation capabilities. Among twenty-two strains tested, the lipase-producing Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 was selected for actual FOG wastewater treatment. Its biodegradability was performed at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and pH 8. The extent of FOG removal efficiency was varied for each FOG tested, being the highest for olive oil and animal fat (94.5% and 94.4%), and the lowest for safflower oil (62%). The addition of organic nitrogen sources such as yeast extract, soytone, and peptone enhanced the removal efficiency of FOGs, but the addition of the inorganic nitrogen nutrients such as $NH_4$Cl and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ did not increase. The $KH_2PO_4$ sources in 0.25% to 0.5% concentrations showed more than 90% degradability. As a result, the main pathway for the oxidation of fatty acids results in the removal of two carbon atoms as acetyl-CoA with each reaction sequence: $\beta$-oxidation. Its lipase activity showed 38.5 U/g DCW using the optimal media after 9 h. Real wastewater and FOGs were used for determining the removal efficiency by using Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 bioadditive. The degradation by Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 was 41% higher than that of the naturally occurring bacteria. This result indicated that the use of isolated Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 in a bioaugmentating grease trap or other processes might possibly be sufficient to acclimate biological processes for degrading FOGs.
Recently, anaerobic methane production of agricultural waste biomass has received increasing attention. Until now domestic BMP (Biochemical methane potential) studies concerned with agricultural waste biomass have concentrated on the several waste biomass such as livestock manure, food waste, and sewage sludge from WWTP (Waste water treatment plant). Especially, the lack of standardization study of BMP assay method has caused the confused comprehension and interpretation in the comparison of BMP results from various researchers. Germany and USA had established the standard methods, VDI 4630 and ASTM E2170-01, for the analysis of BMP and anaerobic organic degradation, respectively. In this review, BMP was defined in the aspect of organic material represented as COD (Chemical oxygen demand) and VS (Volatile solid), and the influence of several parameters on the methane potential of the feedstock was presented. In the investigation of domestic BMP case studies, BMP results of 18 biomass species generating from agriculture and agro-industry were presented. And BMP results of crop species reported from foreign case studies were presented according to the classification system of crops such as food crop, vegetables, oil seed and specialty crop, orchards, and fodder and energy crop. This review emphasizes the urgent need for characterizing the innumerable kind of biomass by their capability on methane production.
Two staphylococcal lipases were obtained from Staphylococcus epidermidis S2 and Staphylococcus aureus S11 isolated from sebaceous areas on the skin of the human face. The molecular mass of both enzymes was estimated to be 45 kDa by SDS-PAGE. S2 lipase displayed its highest activity in the hydrolysis of olive oil at $32^{\circ}C$ and pH 8, whereas S11 lipase showed optimal activity at $31^{\circ}C$ and pH 8.5. The S2 lipase showed the property of cold-adaptation, with activation energy of 6.52 kcal/mol. In contrast, S11 lipase's activation energy, at 21 kcal/mol, was more characteristic of mesophilic lipases. S2 lipase was stable up to $45^{\circ}C$ and within the pH range from 5 to 9, whereas S11 lipase was stable up to $50^{\circ}C$ and from pH 6 to 10. Both enzymes had high activity against tributyrin, waste soybean oil, and fish oil. Sequence analysis of the S2 lipase gene showed an open reading frame of 2,067 bp encoding a signal peptide (35 aa), a pro-peptide (267 aa), and a mature enzyme (386 aa); the S11 lipase gene, at 2,076 bp, also encoded a signal peptide (37 aa), pro-peptide (255 aa), and mature enzyme (399 aa). The two enzymes maintained amino acid sequence identity of 98-99% with other similar staphylococcal lipases. Their microbial origins and biochemical properties may make these staphylococcal lipases isolated from facial sebaceous skin suitable for use as catalysts in the cosmetic, medicinal, food, or detergent industries.

To enhance the reutilization of waste skate skin for the functional food resources, the investigations of extraction characteristics, antioxidative activity of skate skin water extracts on the oxidation of three cooking oils were carried out, and rheological properties, storage safety and sensory evaluation of collagen gel from skate skin were performed. Aromatic and phenolic compounds contents of $50^{\circ}C$ extracts were higher by 49.4% and 32.7%, respectively, than those of $25^{\circ}C$ extracts. Reducing power of extract at $50^{\circ}C$ was higher by 52.74% than that of $25^{\circ}C$ extract, but was 14.9% of ascorbic acid and 27.8% of BHT. Electron donating ability was corresponded to reducing power and phenolic compounds contents. Antioxidative effect of extracts on cooking oil was higher at $50^{\circ}C$ extract than $25^{\circ}C$ extract, and its order was on corn seed oil, soybean oil and olive oil. Antioxidative effect of $50^{\circ}C$ extract showed 38.27~96.83% and 49.53~75.31% of those of ascorbic acid and BHT, respectively, over three cooking oil. The optimum extraction condition for collagen gellation was $100^{\circ}C$, 2 hours extraction under 2.5 folds hydrolysis, and gel strength was lowered above 50% by 10% seasoning.
To utilize waste of squid effectively, antioxidant properities of squid viscera were elucidated. Major fatty acids of total lipid, neutral lipid and phospholipid were $C_{16:0},\;C_{18:1}\;and\;C_{20:5},\;C_{22:6}$ and consisted $63{\sim}71\%$ of total fatty acids. Total lipid did not show significant antioxidant activity when added to the fish oil at the concentration below $5.0\%$, Antioxidant activity of hexane extract was lower than total lipid or tetra carbon chloride-methanol($CCl_4-MeOH$) extract. Extracts with $CCl_4-MeOH$ exerted higher antioxidant activity as the methanol ratio was increased, suggesting that polar lipid plays and important role.
The high fuel flexibility of gas turbine power system has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and sewage waste water as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We investigated the performance of high pressure biogas compression system and operating conditions for supplying biogas. The total flow per minute of biogas from food waste water digestion tank is $54Nm^3$. The main type of biogas compression system is the reciprocating system and screw type system. The target of biogas mechanical data is the as belows; inlet pressure 0.045bar, supplying biogas temperature is $30{\sim}60^{\circ}C$, and final pressure is above the 25 bar. Also, inlet conditions of biogas consist of CH4 48.5%~83%, $H_2S$ Max. 500ppm, $NH_3$ Max. 1,500ppm and Siloxane 2.7~4.6ppm. The boosting Blower system raises a pressure from 0.045bar to 1bar before main compressor. The main system lay out of reciprocating consisits of compressor driver, filter, cooling system, blowdown vessel, control system and ESD(Emergency Shut Down) system. And an enclosure package needs to be installed for reducing noise up to 75dB. The system driver is the electronic motor of explosion proof type. Forthe compressor system reliable operation, the cleaning system something like particulate filter needs to be set up in the inlet of compressor and Coalescing Filter in the outlet of compressor. Particulate Filter has to be removed above $10{\mu}m$ size of the particles in biogas. The coalescing filter(Micofine Borosilicate Glass Fibers Filter treated phenol acid) also removes moisture and oil of above $0.3{\mu}m$ to be involved in high pressure biogas up to 90%~98%.
The objective of this study is the removal of chromium from tannery wastewater by electrosorption on carbon prepared from lignocellulosic natural residue "peach stones' thermally treated. The followed steps for obtaining coal in chronological order were: cleaning, drying, crushing and finally its carbonization at $900^{\circ}C$. The characterization of the carbon material resulted in properties comparable to those of many coals industrially manufactured. The study of the dynamic adsorption of chromium on the obtained material resulted in a low removal rate (33.7%) without applied potential. The application of negative potentials of -0.7 V and -1.4 increases the adsorption of chromium up to 90% and 96% respectively. Whereas a positive potential of +1.4V allows desorption of the contaminant of 138%.

This study was carried out in order to investigate the feasibility of utilizing concentrated sunmul (soybean curd whey), which is a waste by-product of soybean curd processing, as a functional food ingredient. Sunmul Powder was concentrated by ultrafiltration and spray dried with or without dextrin. Oil adsorption capacity of UF retentate powder was similar to that of ISP (Isolated Soy Protein) and higher than that of sunmul powder, whereas water holding capacity of UF retentate powder was lower than that of ISP. Protein solubility of all types of UF retentate powder was significantly higher than that of ISP at pH 2.0-10.0 with the lowest protein solubility seen at pH 4.0 and solubility increasing as the conditions became more acidic or alkaline. Emulsifying activity indexes of UF retentate powder at pH 2.0-10.0 were not influenced by pH. Emulsion stability of 4% sunmul solution was lowest at pH 4.0, but that of UF retentate powder was higher at acidic pH values and decreased with increasing pH. Foaming capacities of sunmul and UF retentate powder were high at pH 4.0-6.0, but the foam of UF retentate powder disappeared within 20 minutes in all conditions of pH.
