Slit Folded Type Microstrip Antenna for Omnidirectional E-plane and H-plane (전방향성 E & H면 슬릿 Folded형 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나)

  • A linearly polarized folded type and H-shape slit folded type microstrip patch antenna at GPS(center frequency:1.575 GHz) were designed and fabricated by folding a conventional single $\lambda_{g}/2(\lambda_{g}:wavelength)$ rectangular patch a half along the length direction at the center of patch and inserting ground plane in the middle. As a result, two types of omnidirectional radiation patterns for E-plane (for zx-plane) in the direction of the length of patch and H-plane (for xy-plane) have been acquired. The experimental results show that the average gains of folded type and slit folded type for omnidirectional E-plane and H-plane are -1.5 dBd (-2.4 dBd) and -3.27 dBd(-2.5 dBd). Slit folded type microstrip patch antenna was more miniaturized than folded type microstrip patch antenna by 27.5 %. In case of slit folded type antenna, average gains of omnidirectional radiation pattern for E & H-plane are almost same.

  • In this paper, to reduce the patch size of microstrip antenna, folded surface-type patch antenna is designed and fabricated. Size reduction could be achieved because of the downed resonant frequency by the extended current path passing along below the transformated patch surface. Comparison of the patch size at the 1.575 GHz between plane type(length 82 mm${\times}$width 90 mm) and "ㄷ"-shaped folded type is carried and comparision of frequency variation at the same patch size is carried. The result is like that the patch size was reduced than the plane type by 60 mm(73.17 %) at the same frequency. Therefore, it could be checked that "ㄷ"-shaped folded type antenna is advantageous than the plane type in size reduction.

Design a Non-Slot Step Folded PIFA and Analyze the Characteristic for Dual-Band GSM and W-CDMA

  • In this paper, we propose the folded PIFA with its made an alteration to a factor of resonance for L-slot PIFA. Proposed antenna maintain diminished size patch and improve each bandwidth of GSM(0.88$\sim$-0.96 GHz) and W-CDMA(1.92$\sim$2,17 GHz) for miniaturized repeater. The non-slot step folded PIFA's structure that design of essence was general L-slot PIFA for dual-band. It has no U-slot, multi band and the another slot. The parameters of proposed antenna were optimized for dual-band and compact size by folded singleness patch. Proposed antenna by using folded singleness patch take satisfaction main point, bandwidth of GSM and W-CDMA, compact patch size($39{\times}21{\times}13mm^3$). The antenna was designed by FDTD simulation tool and it was made from result of simulation. Measured data shown that the proposed non-slot step folded PIFA was strong possibility.

Bandwidth Improved Hybrid Metamaterial Antenna Using Folded Parasitic Patch (접힌 기생 패치를 이용한 확장된 대역폭을 갖는 하이브리드 메타 물질 안테나)

  • In this paper, using a folded parasitic patch, a hybrid metamaterial antenna having the enhanced bandwidth is presented. To obtain a broad bandwidth of the antenna, a zeroth-order resonance(ZOR) mode of a mushroom antenna and a $TM_{010}$ mode of a conventional patch antenna are combined. By employing an etched rectangular hole and a folded parasitic patch in the conventional patch antenna, a resonance frequency of the $TM_{010}$ mode can be down-shifted toward that of the ZOR mode without changing the size of the antenna. Therefore, the proposed antenna has broad bandwidth which ranges from the ZOR mode to the $TM_{010}$ mode. As a result, a fractional bandwidth of the proposed antenna is measured as 12 % and a radiation efficiency is above 75 % in whole band.

Folded Monopole Antenna Using the Rectangular Patch for Multi-band Wireless USB Dongle Applications (다중대역 무선 USB 동글 장치를 위한 사각 패치를 이용한 폴디드 모노폴 안테나)

  • We in order to use WLAN communication device planned wireless USB dongle internal antenna of 2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz band. So it uses square patch dual-wideband and quality is satisfactory and it designed print folded monopole antenna of the shape which is simple. The thickness of the antenna was fed by a $50{\Omega}$ coaxial cable feeding 1mm dielectric constant 4.4 FR4 substrate was used. The overall size of the antenna is $20mm{\times}50mm$. So the internal antenna is suitable. Measurement results of the fabricated antenna, the return loss of more than 10 dB in the two bands could be obtained. Radiation pattern has a maximum gain of 3.75 dBi value.

A Compact Folded Patch Antenna for Omni-Directional Radiation Patterns (전방향성 복사 패턴을 갖는 소형 평면 패치 안테나)

  • The design of a compact folded patch antenna with moderately broad bandwidth is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has radiation characteristics that are similar to the conventional monopole antenna. However, since this antenna is designed in a planar form, it has smaller size than that of a conventional monopole antenna. We have investigated the resonance frequency and bandwidth characteristics of the proposed antenna by changing the antenna design parameters. The proposed planar form of a monopole antenna in this paper has 1.17 GHz bandwidth with a matching circuit at the center frequency of 6.05 GHz.

Design and Implementation of Wideband Patch Antenna with Folded and Shorted Structure for 5 GHz WLAN (폴디드 구조와 단락 구조를 이용한 5 GHz 무선 랜용 광대역 패치 안테나 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we present a wideband patch antenna with folded and shorted structure for 5 GHz WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The proposed antenna used folded and shorted structure in the rectangular patch for miniaturization and wide frequency bandwidth. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulation program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) software of the Ansoft company and the implemented antenna was measured by using HP 8720c network analyzer and far field measurement chamber. Simulation result on the return loss shows fairly good characteristic of at least 13.41dB in whole frequency range of interests, and the 10dB bandwidth is 1,523MHz which shows wide bandwidth characteristic. And the simulated maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 6.57 dBi at 5.825GHz. Measured result for the 10dB bandwidth of the implemented folded and shorted structure antenna is 1,377 MHz. Measured maximum gain of the implemented antenna is 6.87dBi at 5.775GHz. Measured results for the implemented antenna showed applicable performances for the 5 GHz WLAN.

  • In this paper, we propose the planar folded monopole antenna with an inverted T-shape notch in ground plane. The proposed antenna is not only varied to a width of inner and outer patch lines to broaden bandwidth, but also it is inserted to a modified inverted T-shape notch with the same length of horizontal and vertical slit, difference of its width is about twice in the ground plane to broaden bandwidth. It is designed and simulated.

A Dual-Band Compact Folded Patch Antenna (이중 대역 소형 평면 패치 안테나)

  • In this paper we proposed a novel dual-band compact folded patch antenna with the same linear polarizations and high isolation characteristic between the two frequency range. The antenna is loaded with a high permittivity dielectric material in order to reduce the antenna size and open circuit stubs are used in order to broaden the bandwidth. The fractional bandwidths of the optimized antenna with demensions 4 mm${\times}$3 mm${\times}$5 mm are 3.0 % at 5.6 GHz band and 2.8 % at 5.8 GHz band, respectively. The isolation characteristic between the two ports is less than -26 dB within the operating frequency range.

Design of The Miniaturized Folded PIFA for The Automobile DMB Antenna (차량용 DMB 안테나를 위한 소형화 된 Folded PIFA 설계)

  • In this paper, folded PIFA is proposed by using folding the end point of PIFA for the automobile DMB antenna. By turning down the end point on the opposite side of shortstrip, resonance frequency is presented at not $\lambda$/4 but $\lambda$/10. So the folded PIFA has size reduction effect approximately 60 % as compared to the conventional PIFA. Also by using the parasitic patch, folded PIFA provides wide band performance. As a result, the designed antenna can be in the application of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting(180 $\sim$ 210 MHz) antenna for the automobile.
