Barriers and Facilitating Factors Perceived in Turkish Women's Behaviors Towards Early Cervical Cancer Detection: A Qualitative Approach

  • Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate perceived inhibiting and facilitating factors concerning cervical cancer early diagnosis behavior in Turkish women over the age of 40. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out by qualitative focus group interview with 35 participating women, in the period between April-June 2010. A semi-structured interview questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model and the Health Promotion Model was used. Content analysis was applied to the study data. Results: Barriers such as lack of knowledge of women as regards to the cervical cancer and early detection, lack of sensitivity-negligence, forgetting, fear, inadequacy of health insurance and transportation, financial problems, inability to get an appointment, lack of female doctors, embarassment, fatalist approach were frequently addressed. As for facilitating factors, these included provision of information, health professionals showing interest and tolerance, free services, provision of transportation means and reminding telephone calls. Conclusions: Focus group interviews were found to be effective in determining inhibiting and facilitating factors concerning cervical cancer early diagnosis behavior. In line with the results of the study, preparation of structured national and regional education programs and their addition to curriculum programs may be effective in realizing and maintaining positive early detection behavior.

A Study on the Planning Indicator for Carbon Neutral Green City (탄소중립 녹색도시 구현을 위한 계획지표 설정에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this dissertation is establishing internal indicator list for achieving policy goal of Carbon Neutrality Green City. First of all, it started to construct the basic system of planning indicator based on through comprehension of current studies such as advanced researches, government guidelines and green building certifications. And then it was set up final indicator list through inspecting FGI (Focus Group Interview), Verification of suitability, and Analysis of importance). As a result of this research, the planning indicator divided three steps and there were classified four fields in the top-level; Green Land and Ecology, Green Energy, Green Resource and Transportation, Green Living and Institution. According to the data, it deducted four items (ratio of green land, site plan, heat island and management of climate, base of nature ecology) and twelve index in the field of green land and ecology, three item(energy conservation and self-supporting, energy efficiency, new regeneration energy) and twelve index in the field of green energy and regeneration, five items(water resources utilize and circulation, other resource reduction and circulation, public transportation, green transportation plan) and fifteen index. Totally, Planning Indicators of forty nine were deducted. Therefore, there was the result of importance analysis that the indicators of plan and maintain management as the side of space for carbon neutrality were more appreciated than carbon reduction of individual building.

  • This study aims at proposing the efficient settlement of middle school district and the appropriate allotment of middle school student. It focuses on the middle school district in Sejong city where has recently been developed. Firstly this study analyzes the long-term plans of school establishment, the current state of the student accommodation and the number of increasing students according to the continuing developments. To set up the efficient school district, it investigates the number of students per school district, school location and the commuting condition to each school. Throughout a question investigation to school parents, it analyzes the school choice factors - distant to school, school environment, school facilities, teacher's passion, the school curriculum, and so on. Furthermore it carries out focus group interview(FGI) targeting parents and teachers. It proposes a short-distance allotment method as an appropriate disposition of middle school student in Sejong city, which conducts a process of the first-application and the later-draw with a community as a unit.

A Study on the Registration of Workplaces subjected to Work Environment Measurement to Expand it's Coverage (작업환경측정 커버리지 확대를 위한 대상 사업장 등록 방안)

  • Objectives: The most important occupational health activity is work environment measurement(WEM) along with the health examination. The preventive function of the WEM system could be achieved on the assumption that all subjected workplaces are performing correctly the WEM. To achieve properly the original purpose of WEM, we suggested a policy for subjected workplaces that they should register whether subjected or not. Methods: We made registration draft through reviewing laws, reports and thesis for WEM. And we conducted Focus Group Interview for industrial health experts using structured questionnaire about the registration. Results: There were 412 occupational deaths from 2013 to 2017. And it was found that only 130(31.6%) workplaces which involved in these occupational deaths had conducted the WEM. In order to operate the WEM system with effect, the subjected workplaces should register the subject status. Such registration must be completed at the stage of industrial accident insurance enrollment. Conclusions: Conducting WEM is the first step to prevent intoxication accident in workpalces. To operate properly WEM we should correctly understand subjected workplaces. So it is needed for all subjected workplaces to register whether they are subjected or not.

Exploring Differing Communication among Generation in a Social Network Age (소셜 네트워크 시대의 세대 간 소통 증감 인식차이에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • Due to development of smart and network technologies, social network service (SNS) has become popular in daily life. With increasing use of SNS, the scope of communication has been widened. Lots of activities can be easily shared daily on SNS. Differing with opinions about more activated communication on SNSs, some people have viewpoints that, in some cases, communications may be decreased among SNS users. This research is to investigate whether there may be the differences among generations in the social network age. Major concerns of study are as follows. First, there may be differences in age related to the decrease of communication activities. On the other hand, there may be differences among generations related to the increase of communication. Two research steps have been adopted that the FGI (focus group interview) was to understand. Defining actual communication status was the first step, and an empirical approach, a survey to verify hypotheses, was performed as the second step. Key findings of the study were that older generations perceived communication has been decreased. Research results can provide implications regarding characteristics of SNS communication.

Analysis of Actual Condition of Innovative Sharing University Project for the Human Resource Development of Digital New Technology (디지털 신기술 인재양성 혁신공유대학 사업 실태 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the actual condition of the innovative sharing university project. To this end, a focus group interview was conducted by selecting officials participating in the innovative sharing university project as study participants. The collected data was analyzed using the content analysis method. The results of the study are as follows. First, in terms of the promotion system and operation dimension of project group, study participants presented difficulties and improvements in terms of the national promotion system and university-level project operation. Second, in terms of curriculum management dimension, study participants presented difficulties and improvements in content development and sharing, engagement support for professors and students participation, and securing and sharing educational infrastructure. Third, in terms of management of project performance indicators, study participants presented difficulties and improvements in managing core performance indicators, managing autonomy performance indicators, and sharing project performance. Based on these study results, suggestions for the use of research results were presented.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the jobs of paramedics who are diversifying by deriving duties in accordance with occupational group-related laws, although they are not directly specified in the job description of paramedics or the Emergency Medical Act. Methods: This study selected four paramedics who randomly extracted participants that submitted consent to participate between March 2023 and October 2023. Their occupational groups were the Korea coast guard and air rescue, health centers, and industries; they met on September 19, 2023, and directly transcribed the recorded contents through a three-and-a-half-hour focus group interview for analysis. Results: In the results, although the job description was not directly specified in the job description or emergency medical law, five areas of work applied to practice were derived: "rescue," "administration," "education," "industry," and "tactical." Conclusion: To expand jobs according to the diversification of the occupational field of paramedics, job analysis of paramedics belonging to various occupations is required.

Experience of Agent Orange and Depression and Quality of Life: Mixed Method (고엽제 노출 경험과 우울 및 삶의 질: 통합방법론)

  • Objective: This study used a mixed methods analytical approach to analyze the level of depression in and quality of life of patients who had been exposure to Agent Orange. Methods: Data on the general characteristics, depression level, and the quality of life of 29 patients who were hospitalized because of exposure to Agent Orange were collected. Focus group interviews were conducted with 17 of these 29 patients. Regarding mixed methods, the sequential integrated design model proposed by Teddlie and Tashakkori (2003) was employed. The analytical methods were as follows: (1) general characteristics were examined using frequencies and proportional distributions; (2) depression scores and quality of life scores were assessed using descriptive statistical analysis; and (3) content analysis was used to examine the focus group interview data. Results: The average K-GDS depression score was 19.24 points, and the average WHOQOL-BREF quality of life score was 57.66 points. The focus group interview data yielded 3 topics were named "deployment route", "the manner of exposure to Agent Orange", and "life after Agent Orange exposure". Conclusion: There is an urgent need to increase public awareness, develop a public policy response, and conduct additional research on ground occupational therapy programs that include physical therapy.

Improving The Formal Long-Term Care Workforce Caring for the Elderly: A Focus Group Interview (요양보호사 교육의 고도화 방안에 관한 초점집단 인터뷰: 직무 및 치매교육을 중심으로)

  • A high-quality workforce is essential to delivering the high-quality care for the older people who are beneficiaries of long term care insurance. Providing adequate education and ongoing training opportunities could be one answer that may lead to the ultimate goal of improving the quality of long-term care services. Thus this study aimed to examine a workforce crisis and difficulties that care workers face in current education system, especially in contents and administration aspects and draw out suitable solutions or improvement measures. The focus group interview approach was chosen to reflect opinions of long-term care workers, directors of the education system in long-term care facilities and managers. The findings from the focus group interviews were analyzed by theme and classified into several categories by common subjects:'Training contents', 'Training environment', 'Administrator', 'Compulsory training', 'Care givers supply', 'Working condition'. Also, four content areas were presented as follows:'Job training', 'Dementia care training', 'Administration system', 'Workforce'. The caregivers demand very practical training programmes and trainers with a lot of field experience. Improving the working condition and treatments for them leeds to expand the opportunity of the on-going training.

A Qualitative Study of the Difficulties Experienced in the Reemployment Process : Focusing on The Experience of Career-interrupted Women and Recruiters (경력단절여성의 재취업 경험에 대한 질적 연구 : 경력단절여성과 채용담당자가 경험한 어려움을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the difficulties experienced by career-interrupted women and recruiters in the reemployment process. Using focused group interview(FGI), the depth interviews with six women and six recruiters had been carried out. Collected data was analyzed based on the interview and focus group research method by Corbin and Strauss(2008). Finally, eight domains in career-interrupted women' experience and five in recruiters' were created from the analysis of the data. In the context of the experience there were something in common. They include the need of proper job for woman, the lack of employment system and resource, and the negative perception of women workers. As result, we suggested implications. for solving the difficulties in the reemployment process.
