The recycling possibility of aluminum waste dross(AWD) as a ceramic raw material of porous light-weight material was examined. A aluminum waste dross was washed 4-7 consecutive times and roasted at 900$^{\circ}% for 1hour as pre-treatments. The properties of the pre-treatment of aluminum waste dross was investigated. It was conformed by XRD result that the spinel crystalline was grown in AWD, after roasting. After the roasted AWD was ground in aqueous state, the sodium hexaphosphate(SHP) as a dispersant which is used for stabilizing the concentrated slurry was added to the AWD slurry. The porous material was prepared by slurry foaming method with surfactant at room temperature. The foamed slurry volumes were 2 and 3 times of the original slurry volume. The properties of porous material with extended volume of 3 times was following: the porosity was about 84%, bulk density was 0.59 g/cm$^3$, the range of pore was from 50 ${\mu}m$ to 500 ${\mu}m$ and mean pore size was about 200 ${\mu}m$. AWD porous material was sintered at 1150$^{\circ}C-1250$^{\circ}C. It was colcluded that AWD was sintered well at 1200$^{\circ}C from material surface observation by SEM.
Objective : To analyze the effects of the number and shape of fenestrations on the mechanical strength of pedicle screws and the effects of bone cement augmentation (BCA) on the pull-out strength (POS) of screws used in conventional BCA. Methods : For the control group, a conventional screw was defined as C1, a screw with cannulated end-holes was defined as C2, a C2 screw with six pinholes was defined as C3, and the control group type was set. Among the experimental screws, T1 was designed using symmetrically placed thru-hole type fenestrations with an elliptical shape, while T2 was designed with half-moon (HM)-shaped asymmetrical fenestrations. T3 and T4 were designed with single HM-shaped fenestrations covering three pitches and five pitches, respectively. T5 and T6 were designed with 0.6-mm and 1-mm wider fenestrations than T3. BCA was performed by injecting 3 mL of commercial bone cement in the screw, and mechanical strength and POS tests were performed according to ASTM F1717 and ASTM F543 standards. Synthetic bone (model #1522-505) made of polyurethane foam was used as a model of osteoporotic bone, and radiographic examinations were performed using computed tomography and fluoroscopy. Results : In the fatigue test, at 75% ultimate load, fractures occurred 7781 and 9189 times; at 50%, they occurred 36122 and 82067 times; and at 25%, no fractures occurred. The mean ultimate load for each screw type was 219.1±52.39 N for T1, 234.74±15.9 N for T2, 220.70±59.23 N for T3, 216.45±32.4 N for T4, 181.55±54.78 N for T5, and 216.47±29.25 N for T6. In comparison with C1, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T6 showed significantly different ultimate load values (p<0.05). However, when the values for C2 and the fenestrated screws were evaluated with an unpaired t test, the ultimate load value of C2 significantly differed only from that of T2 (p=0.025). The ultimate load value of C3 differed significantly from those of T1 and T2 (C3 vs. T1 : p=0.048; C3 vs. T2 : p<0.001). Linear correlation analysis revealed a significant correlation between the fenestration area and the volume of bone cement (Pearson's correlation coefficient r=0.288, p=0.036). The bone cement volume and ultimate load significantly correlated with each other in linear correlation analysis (r=0.403, p=0.003). Conclusion : Fenestration yielded a superior ultimate load in comparison with standard BCA using a conventional screw. In T2 screws with asymmetrical two-way fenestrations showed the maximal increase in ultimate load. The fenestrated screws can be expected to show a stable position for the formation of the cement mass.
The objective of this study was to determine the optimum manufacturing conditions of whole egg powder with high foaming property sufficient for making sponge cakes. Whole eggs were either desugarized and/or adjusted pH before spray-dried at a temperature of $70^{\circ}C$. The physical properties of the cake were measured, and sensory evaluation was conducted on a 9-point scale. The pH and specific gravities of the foam and batter made from desugarized egg powder did not differ from those of the control, whereas batter made from commercial powder experienced significant loss of cake characteristics. The pH adjustment did not improve the foaming properties of the egg powders. The volume and textural properties of the cakes made from spray-dried egg did not differ from those of fresh egg. The taste and sensory characteristic scores for fresh egg, desugarized whole egg powder, and commercial powder were 5.00, 4.78, and 1.89, respectively. These results indicate that egg powders desugarized and spray-dried at $70^{\circ}C$ are sufficient for making sponge cakes with acceptable physical and sensory attributes.

This study was undertaken to control sludge bulking and foaming problems at the biological nutrient removal processes. A sewage treatment plant(STP) had a severe sludge settling problem usually over 90% in 30 min settled sludge volume and 300 mL/g in SVI and also thick and heavy brown foam in the secondary clarifiers. Identification study shows that causative filament was Microthrix parvicella which has not been previously reported in Korea. According to the inspection of processes and other related parameters, excessive growth of this particular filament was associated with high SRT caused by lack of proper capacity in sludge treatment line. After providing an extension of the sludge treatment capability, the plant can decrease SRT by wasting more sludge from the processes and also decreasing SS concentration in recycled stream. Subsequently we were able to control growth of M. parvicella. The SVI value was reduced to half of those observed during the severe bulking, but also sludge blanket and its concentration in the clarifier became compact and dense. However, decrease in population of M. parvicella caused increase of total phosphorus concentration in the effluent.

The physical properties of lightweight foamed concrete mixed with EPS waste and flame resistant EPS waste were investigated. For this purpose, the main variables considered were a cement content of 300 and $400kgf/m^3$ and an EPS replacement ratio of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% by the volume ratio of the foam. The water-cement ratio and the dilution concentration were fixed to 0.5 and 10% respectively. The test results showed that the apparent density meets degrees 0.5 and 0.6 of KS F4039, and they showed little difference between the two mixes of Type A and Type B, regardless of the unit cement content. The bending strength obtained through the compressive strength also met the degree of KS F 4039. The thermal conductivity was 1~3% higher for the mixes of EPS than the case of flame resistant EPS, but both mixes met the 0.4 degree of KS F4039. The absorption ratio showed the values above 20% with a 1~3% difference for the two mixes, which mean further studies will be needed to reduce the absorption ratio.
The principal objective of this study was to determine the optimum manufacturing conditions of egg white with high foaming property for the production of angel food cakes. The egg whites were desugarized and powdered at predetermined pHs and drying temperatures. The physicochemical properties of the produced cakes were measured and sensory evaluations were conducted on a 9-point scale. The volume and textural properties of cakes produced from spray-dried egg whites did not differ from those of the cakes prepared from the control egg whites. The pH of batter and the specific gravity of foam and batter with egg white powder at pH 6.74/66.5$^{\circ}C$ did not differ from those of the control, whereas the one prepared with commercial powder lost the characteristics of cake to a significant degree. The overall acceptance scores of egg white powder of pH 6.74/66.5$^{\circ}C$ and commercial powder were 6.25 and 2.33 as compared to the control (6.42). These results indicate that the egg white powder that was desugarized, pH-adjusted to 6.74, and dried at 66.5$^{\circ}C$ might be utilized to prepare angel food cakes with the desirable physicochemical and sensory attributes.

Lightweight foamed concretes are mainly used in apartment building construction for building room floor insulation, sound proof and height difference adjustment, etc. However, existing lightweight foamed concretes have problems like volume reduction by foam removal and excessive crack occurrence, etc, and for compensation, they developed improved concrete binders for lightweight foamed concrete with special characteristics by adding admixture materials used in concrete manufacturing. Therefore, this study reviewed the possibility of its practical use by analyzing all the engineering characteristics after producing imitation member proposed as actual binders and piling lightweight foamed concrete as improved lightweight foamed concrete binder through prior study, the results are as follows. Plain in which various pulverulent materials are mixed showed about 230mm of flow value, satisfying the target flow value, and at 100mm member, about 4mm of settlement occurred, showing a settlement depth reduction effect double the OPC. On strength, OPC showed highest value, but the three levels all showed strengths above the specified value of KS standard 0.5 grade. From the analysis of drying shrinkage member crack, plain, about 0.1mm, was shown very excellent against drying shrinkage crack.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generated in petrochemical complexes, can spread to residential areas and affect the health of residents. Although harmful PAHs are mainly present in particle phase, gas phase PAHs can generate stronger toxic substances through photochemical reaction. Therefore, the risk assessment for PAHs around the petrochemical complex should consider both particle and gas phase concentrations. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the concentration characteristics of particle and gas phase PAHs by season in residential areas around petrochemical complexes, and to assess the risk of PAHs. Methods: Samples were collected for 7 days by seasons in 2014~2015 using a high volume air sampler. Particle and gas phase PAHs were sampled using quartz filter and polyurethane foam, respectively, analyzed by GC-MS. Chronic toxicity and probabilistic risk assessment were performed on 14 PAHs. For chronic toxicity risk assessment, inhalation unit risk was used. Monte-Carlo simulation was performed for probabilistic risk assessment using the mean and standard deviation of measured PAHs. Results: The concentration of particle total PAHs was highest in autumn. The gas phase concentration was highest in autumn. The average gas phase distribution ratio of low molecular weight PAHs composed of 2~3 benzene rings was 85%. The average of the medium molecular weight composed of 4 benzene rings was 53%, and the average of the high molecular weight composed of 5 or more benzene rings was 9%. In the chronic toxicity risk assessment, 7 of the 14 PAHs exceeded the excess carcinogenic risk of 1.00×10-6. In the Monte-Carlo simulation, Benzo[a]pyrene had the highest probability of exceeding 1.00×10-6, which was 100%. Conclusions: The concentration of PAHs in the residential area around the petrochemical complex exceeded the standard, and the excess carcinogenic risk was evaluated to be high. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the air environment around the petrochemical complex.
This study was conducted to investigated the distribution, ecological character and life cycle of Black Soldier Fly(BSF), Hermetia illucens, to determine effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces. The distribution of BSF was defined in all parts of the country in Korea. Its main habitat was found to be areas near cattle sheds, feces sheds, living waste dump grounds, and food waste dump grounds. Excellent species of the bio-conversion using the livestock feces were selected out of two kinds of solider flies(Hermetia illucens and Ptecticus tenebrifer). And effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces were pig feces 0.5 g, cattle feces 0.43 g and chicken feces 0.3 g per a larvae of BSF. In the examination of the ability of BSF to decompose food waste, volume of the livestock feces decreased by weight pig feces 77, cattle feces 83.62 and chicken feces 80%. Observed characteristics of BSF larvae and pupae stage were by developmental stage may be summarized as follows: size and length of larvae and pupae of BSF were higher than in pig feces and mixed sawdust treatments. In order to develop artificial indoor rearing techniques, The pupation and emergence rate were not visible the difference but important factor of the mating and egg-laying was a sun light. And it was visible the difference in mating ratio. Mating rate of H. illucens by seasonal change was the highest from May to July. Mating mostly occurred between 10 : 00 and 12 : 00 during which light intensity is high. As the egg-laying medium for artificial egg collection, calf feed and food waste were most effective. The ratio of egg-laying medium is waste food : sawdust(1 : 1) in volume. For egg-laying materials, flower foam and wood with holes were used; holes sized 3 ~ 5 mm in diameter, 7 ~ 10 mm in depth were most preferred for egg-laying.
Operational parameters for struvite crystallization, as a process to recover nitrogen and phosphorus resources from animal wastewater, were studied in this research. Crystallization distinctive of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ in accordance to chemical sources, influent pH, aeration and stirring was examined using 2L of working volume of struvite reactor. Also, to find an effective treatment process combining with electrolysis method, removal characteristics of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ in 6 different processes was tested. As chemical sources for the derivation of struvite formation, MgSO$_4$ and MgCl$_2$ were superior to CaCO$_3$ and CaCl$_2$. From experiment which was conducted to know the effects of aeration and stirring on struvite formation, it was revealed that aeration stimulated the crystallization reaction by inducing faster pH increase. While 90% of P removal was achieved within 1 hour under aeration, 14 hours was consumed under stirring condition. Struvite formation under aeration was affected by influent pH. No crystallization was observed at pH 5 level, but active crystallization reaction was induced over pH 6.0. 95% of P removal by struvite formation at pH 6, 7 and 9 was achieved within 3h, 2h and 10 min., respectively. However, over pH 10, operational problem due to excessive foam formation occurred, and blunting of crystallization reaction was observed at pH 11. When consider the pH range of animal wastewater, pH 7 to 9, efficient struvite formation could be achieved by simple aeration, without any chemical usage for pH adjustment. Among tested processes, the treatment process which electrolyzing the supernatant from struvite reactor, providing air to both reactors, showed best pollutant removal efficiencies. In this combined process, the removal efficiencies of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ was 86% and 98%, respectively, and 92.4% of color removal was obtained.
