The thermalhydraulic performance of a CANDU-6 reactor loaded with various CANFLEX fuel bundles is evaluated by the NUCIRC code, which is incorporated with recent models of pressure drop and critical heat flux (CHF) predictions based on high-pressure steam-water tests for the CANFLEX bundle as well as a 37-element bundle. The distributions of channel flow rate, channel exit quality, critical channel power (CCP), and critical power ratio (CPR) for the CANFLEX bundles (with natural or recycled uranium fuel) in the CANDU-6 reactor fuel channel are calculated by the code. The effects of axial and radial heat flux on CCP are evaluated by assuming that the recycled uranium fuel (CANFLEX-RU) has the same geometric data as the natural uranium fuel bundle (CANFLEX-NU), but a different power distribution due to different fuel composition and refueling scheme. In addition, the effects of pressure tube creep and bearing-pad height are examined by comparing various results of uncrept, and $3.3\%\;and\;5.1\%$ crept channels loaded with CANFLEX bundles with 1.4 mm or 1.7 mm high bearing-pads with those of the 37-element bundle. The distributions of the channel flow rate and CCP for the CANFLEX-NU or -RU bundle show a typical trend for a CANDU-6 reactor channel, and the CPRs are maintained above at least 1.444 (NU) or 1.455 (RU) in the uncrept channel. The enhanced CHF of the CANFLEX bundle (particularly with 1.7mm height bearing-pads) produces a higher thermal margin and considerably less sensitivity to CCP reduction due to the pressure tube creep than the 37-element bundle. The CCP enhancement due to the raised bearing-pads is estimated to be about $3\%\~5\%$ for the CANFLEX-NU and $2\%\~6\%$ for the CANFLEX-RU bundle, respectively.

$Eu^{3+}$ doped $YGdO_3$ phosphors particles which have fine size and narrow size distribution with non aggregated uniform morphology were prepared by solvent evaporation method for the improvement of emission efficiency. Several parameters have been investigated in this study such as the influences of composition ratio of host materials, calcination temperature, amount of activator, surfactant, pH and flux on the photoluminescence intensity, particle size and dispersion. $Eu^{3+}$ doped $YGdO_3$ phosphor presented a strong narrow band emission peak at 612nm. The maximum emission intensity of$YGdO_3:Eu^{3+}$ occurred when $Eu^{3+}$ concentration is 3wt% under vacuum ultra violet excitation. Prepared phosphors were found to have small round-shaped particles about 150nm in size. The addition of PVA as a surfactant inhibits the grain growth and the agglomeration of particles efficiently by reducing the oxygen bridge bonds. As the pH reduces, PL intensity increase due to reducing the formation of oxygen bridge bonds. The particles prepared from solvent evaporation method with 5wt% LiCl were found to have 120% PL intensity compare to particles prepared without LiCl flux.
This paper is going to show the way we can sample the landfill gases flowing out to the air through final cover soil by using an closed chamber in the field for a short time. In addition, we came to the following results through the application of model with actual measurements. 1) Analyzing changes of concentration in the chamber(H: 10-30cm) every 5 minutes, considering analysis time of gas chromatograph for an half hour. 2) The proportion of $CE_4$to $CO_2$changes rapidly near the surface of final cover soil by the influence of methane oxidation reaction. 3) When flux of landfill gas is F=$10^{-5}$mol/$\textrm{m}^2$.s), methane oxidation reaction has an influence on composition of gases, however there is little influence when F=$10^{-6}$ mol/($\textrm{m}^2$.s).

This work employs two models to quantify the size-segregated dry deposition fluxes of particle-bound N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , N $H_4$$^{+}$, and S $O_4$$^{2-}$ along the coastal area of Jeju Island based on the chemical composition data of aerosol collected during the springtime of 1995. The two approaches produced fairly comparable results, despite the feature differences between the two models. The modelling results obtained indicated that the mean dry deposition velocity was around 0.4 cm $s^{-1}$ for N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , 0.2 cm $s^{-1}$ for N $H_4$$^{+}$, and 0.3 cm $s^{-1}$ for S $O_4$$^{2-}$, and the dry deposition flux varied between 371~1368 $\mu\textrm{g}$$m^{-2}$ da $y^{-1}$ for nitrate, 28~625 $\mu\textrm{g}$$m^{-2}$ da $y^{-1}$ for ammonium, and 957~6088 $\mu\textrm{g}$$m^{-2}$ da $y^{-1}$ for sulfate. Although difficulties in collecting giant and/or fine particles limited the understanding of the mass size distribution of particles and thus the ability to refine estimates of the dry deposition flux for the particulate matter, both models were still able to offer sufficient realism to explain the features of the available data collected from the coastal area of Jeju Island.and.

Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution containing the glutaraldehyde (GA) as a crosslinking agent was coated onto the polyacrylonitrile (PAN) hollow fiber membrane as the supporter. Pervaporation experiments were carried out to characterize the prepared PVA/PAN composite membrane for water-isopropyl alcohol mixture. The flux and separation factor were measured at 30, 50, $90^{\circ}C$ for the feed mixture of aqueous 85 wt% IPA solution with varying the reaction temperature and composition of coating solutions. Typically the flux showed 1,870 $g/m^2{\cdot}hr$ at $90^{\circ}C$ feed mixture and the coating concentration of 3.5 wt% and the highest separation factor of 804 was obtained at $30^{\circ}C$ feed mixture and the coating concentration of 7 wt% as well.
Nanofiltration was performed with polyaluminium chloride solutions at different pH conditions to understand effects of inorganic compounds on aluminum hydrolysis products, i.e., three distinctive groups of aluminum species: polymeric Al at low pH; $Al(OH)_3$ at neutral pH; and ${Al(OH)_4}^-$ at high pH. The PACl solution was prepared to be approximately 4.0mM and adjusted to the designated pH. The influence of inorganic compounds on Al species fouling was investigated with 4.9mM $CaCl_2$ and 3.5mM $MgSO_4$ because $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$ are the most common inorganics in the drinking water. NF membrane fouling was measured by flux decline rate. The impact of $CaCl_2$ was not significant on the individual Al hydrolysis products fouling. However, the flux decline rate was drastically changed in the presence of $MgSO_4$. The concentration of particulate matters was considerably increased possibly due to interaction between Al species and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ where $MgSO_4$ was introduced. The particulates were accumulated on the membrane and enhanced the hydraulic resistance of the cake layer. In addition, conductivity removal of the membrane was decreased when Al-hydroxide was dominant due to reduction of membrane surface charge. The rejection of $Ca^{2+}$and $Mg^{2+}$ were considerably different, which implys that composition of inorganics paly a role on conductivity removal.
A study on the characteristics of phosphorus sedimentation in Nakdong Estuary Barrage was conducted in June and July, 1989. Cylindric type sediment trap was designed for collecting of downward material. Downward flux and settling velocity of downward material were $296g/m^2/d$, 1.25m/hr in mid-layer and $955g/m^2/d$, 3.31m/hr in bottom-layer, respectively Downward flux and settling velocity of phosphorus were $0.64g/m^2/d$, 0.85m/hr in mid-layer and $1.97g/m^2/d$, 1.89m/hr in bottom-layer, respectively. Fractional composition of organic phophorus in downward material was $51.9\%$ in mid-layer water and $48.3\%$ in bottom-layer water. According to the result of this study, sedimentation of phosphorus plays an important role as a sinking effect in Nakdong Estuary Barrage.
This study was designed to investigate fire characteristics of the plastics insulating materials such as a polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, and polyethylene foam, which is used an insulating materials i3t workplace. The fire characteristics of plastic insulating materials were carried out from the Cone Calorimeter test according to ISO 5660. The experimental materials used were commercial plastic insulating materials by products and their composition is not disclosed by the manufacturer. As the results of this study; the heat release rate of plastic insulating materials was increased with increasing density and heat flux. The peak heat release rate and the average heat release rate for the polyethylene foam in insulating materials were showed the highest, and the peak heat release rate for the polyethylene foam was the highest. The standard of heat release rate with a kind of products and heat flux of irradiance to prevent fire by plastic insulating materials was suggested.
The radiological characteristics for waste classification were assessed for neutron-activated decommissioning wastes from a CANDU reactor. The MCNP/ORIGEN2 code system was used for the source term analysis. The neutron flux and activation cross-section library for each structural component generated by MCNP simulation were used in the radionuclide buildup calculation in ORIGEN2. The specific activities of the relevant radionuclides in the activated metal waste were compared with the specified limits of the specific activities listed in the Korean standard and 10 CFR 61. The time-average full-core model of Wolsong Unit 1 was used as the neutron source for activation of in-core and ex-core structural components. The approximated levels of the neutron flux and cross-section, irradiated fuel composition, and a geometry simplification revealing good reliability in a previous study were used in the source term calculation as well. The results revealed the radioactivity, decay heat, hazard index, mass, and solid volume for the activated decommissioning waste to be $1.04{\times}10^{16}$ Bq, $2.09{\times}10^3$ W, $5.31{\times}10^{14}\;m^3$-water, $4.69{\times}10^5$ kg, and $7.38{\times}10^1\;m^3$, respectively. According to both Korean and US standards, the activated waste of the pressure tubes, calandria tubes, reactivity devices, and reactivity device supporters was greater than Class C, which should be disposed of in a deep geological disposal repository, whereas the side structural components were classified as low- and intermediate-level waste, which can be disposed of in a land disposal repository. Finally, this study confirmed that, regardless of the cooling time of the waste, 15% of the decommissioning waste cannot be disposed of in a land disposal repository. It is expected that the source terms and waste classification evaluated through this study can be widely used to establish a decommissioning/disposal strategy and fuel cycle analysis for CANDU reactors.
A permeation apparatus has been devdoped which could make the on-line measurements of both flux and permeate composition. Pervaporative experiment of a single component, i.e. water was performed by using poly(vinyl alcohol) membrane crosslinked with glutaraldehyde to confirm the validity of the apparatus. In the experiment, steady-state permeation was obtained in 15 minutes and the measurement could be completed within 20 minutes. A comparison of the on-line measurement was made with the fluxes measured simultaneously by the conventional method in which the permeates were collected by liquid nitrogen. The on-line measurement by the apparatus showed an excellent agreement with the conventional measurement within a difference of $\pm$2%. From the flux data with operating time, 3 kinds of diffusion coefficients of water $D_{slope}, D_{1/2}$, and $D_t$ were determined, which were also coincident with values in a literature. It was confirmed that accurate measurements of fluxes could be obtained from the apparatus.
