Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) thin film was coated on aluminosilicate glass at $450^{\circ}C$ by spray pyrolysis method. In the range of 0-2.7 molar ratio of F/Sn, the variations of electrical conductivity and visible light transmission were investigated. At the F/Sn ratio of 1.765, the film showed the lowest electrical resistivity value of $3.0{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}\;cm$, the highest carrier concentration of $2.404{\times}10^{21}/cm^3$, and about $8\;cm^2/V{\cdot}sec$ of electronic mobility. The FTO film showed a preferred orientation of (200) plane parallel to the substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis results indicated that the contents of $Sn^{4+}-O$ bonding are the highest at 1.765 of F/Sn molar ratio.

Over the past several years, transparent conducting oxides have been extensively studied in order to replace indium tin oxide (ITO). Here we report on fluorine doped zinc tin oxide (FZTO) films deposited on glass substrates by radio-frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering using a 30 wt% ZnO with 70 wt% SnO2 ceramic targets. The F-doping was carried out by introducing a mixed gas of pure Ar, CF4, and O2 forming gas into the sputtering chamber while sputtering ZTO target. Annealing temperature affects the structural, electrical and optical properties of FZTO thin films. All the as-deposited FZTO films grown at room temperature are found to be amorphous because of the immiscibility of SnO2 and ZnO. Even after the as-deposited FZTO films were annealed from $300{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, there were no significant changes. However, when the sample is annealed temperature up to $600^{\circ}C$, two distinct diffraction peaks appear in XRD spectra at $2{\Theta}=34.0^{\circ}$ and $52.02^{\circ}$, respectively, which correspond to the (101) and (211) planes of rutile phase SnO2. FZTO thin film annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ resulted in decrease of resistivity $5.47{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$, carrier concentration ~1019 cm-3, mobility~20 cm2 V-1s-1 and increase of optical band gap from 3.41 to 3.60 eV with increasing the annealing temperatures and well explained by Burstein-Moss effect. Change of work function with the annealing temperature was obtained by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy. The increase of annealing temperature leads to increase of work function from ${\phi}=3.80eV$ (as-deposited FZTO) to ${\phi}=4.10eV$ ($600^{\circ}C$ annealed FZTO) which are quite smaller than 4.62 eV for Al-ZnO and 4.74 eV for SnO2. Through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, incorporation of F atoms was found at around the binding energy of 684.28 eV in the as-deposited and annealed FZTO up to 400oC, but can't be observed in the annealed FZTO at 500oC. This result indicates that F atoms in FZTO films are loosely bound or probably located in the interstitial sites instead of substitutional sites and thus easily diffused into the vacuum from the films by thermal annealing. The optical transmittance of FZTO films was higher than 80% in all specimens and 2-3% higher than ZTO films. FZTO is a possible potential transparent conducting oxide (TCO) alternative for application in optoelectronics.
In material processing, a laser system with optimal laser parameters has been considered to be significant. Especially, the laser scribing technology is thought to be very important for fabricating DSSC(Dye sensitized solar eel!) modules with good quality. Moreover, the $TEM_{00}$ mode laser beam is the most dominant factor to decide the IPCE(Incident photon to current conversion efficiency) characteristics. In order to get the $TEM_{00}$ mode, a pin-hole is inserted within a simple pulsed Nd:YAG laser resonator. And the spatial field distribution is measured by using three size pin-hole diameters of 2.0, 6.0mm respectively. At that moment, each case has the same laser beam energy by adjusting the discharge voltage and pps(pulse per second). From those results, it is known that the pin-hole size of 2.0mm has the perfect $TEM_{00}$ mode. In addition, at the charging voltage of 1000V, 10pps and the feeding speed of 1.11mm/sec, the SEM photo of FTO(Fluorine-doped tin oxide) thin film layers shows the best scribing trace.
In recent years, energy-management studies in buildings have proven useful for energy savings. Typically, during heating and cooling, the energy from a given building is lost through its windows. Generally, to block the entry of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) rays, thin films of deposited metals or metal oxides are used, and the blocking of UV and IR rays by these thin films depends on the materials deposited on them. Therefore, by controlling the thicknesses and densities of the thin films, improving the transmittance of visible light and the blocking of heat rays such as UV and IR may be possible. Such improvements can be realized not only by changing the two-dimensional thin films but also by altering the zero-dimensional (0-D) nanostructures deposited on the films. In this study, 0-D nanoparticles were synthesized using a sol -gel procedure. The synthesized nanoparticles were deposited as deep coatings on polymer and glass substrates. Through spectral analysis in the UV-visible (vis) region, thin-film layers of deposited zinc oxide nanoparticles blocked >95 % of UV rays. For high transmittance in the visible-light region and low transmittance in the IR and UV regions, hybrid multiple layers of silica nanoparticles, zinc oxide particles, and fluorine-doped tin oxide nanoparticles were formed on glass and polymer substrates. Spectrophotometry in the UV-vis-near-IR regions revealed that the substrates prevented heat loss well. The glass and polymer substrates achieved transmittance values of 80 % in the visible-light region, 50 % to 60 % in the IR region, and 90 % in the UV region.

Purpose: Fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) bottom electrode for $Ta_2O_5$ based RRAM was studied to apply for transparent resistive switching memory devices owing to its superior transparency, good conductivity and chemical stability. Methods: $ITO/Ta_2O_5/FTO$ (ITF) and $ITO/Ta_2O_5/Pt$ (ITP) devices were fabricated on glass and Si substrate, respectively. UV-visible (UV-VIS) spectroscopy was used to examine transparency of the ITF device and its band gap energy was determined by conventional Tauc plot. Electrical properties, such as electroforming and voltage-induced RS characteristics were measured and compared. Results: The device with an FTO bottom electrode showed good transparency (>80%), low forming voltage (~-2.5V), and reliable bipolar RS behavior. Whereas, the one with Pt electrode showed both bipolar and unipolar RS behaviors unstably with large forming voltage (~-6.5V). Conclusion: Transparent and conducting FTO can successfully realize a transparent RRAM device. It is concluded that FTO electrode may form a stable interface with $Ta_2O_5$ switching layer and plays as oxygen ion reservoir to supply oxygen vacancies, which eventually facilitates a stable operation of RRAM device.
Transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) are essential material in optoelectronics such as solar cells, touch screens and light emitting diodes. Particularly TCOs are attractive material for infrared cut off film due to their high transparency in the visible wavelength range and high infrared reflectivity. Among the TCO, Indium tin oxide has been widely used because of the high electrical conductivity and transparency in the visible wavelength region. But ITO has several limitations; expensive and low environmental stability. On the other hands, fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) is well known for low cost, weather ability and stable in acidic and hydrogen. In this study, two different magnetron sputtering techniques with RF and DC modes at room temperature deposition of FTO thin film was conducted. The change of oxygen content is influence on the topography, transmittance and refractive index.
Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) use the bipolar plate of various materials between electrolyte and contact electrode for the stable hydrogen ion exchange activation. The bipolar plate of various materials has representatively graphite and stainless steel. Specially, stainless steels have advantage for low cost and high product rate. In this study, SUS 316 was effectively coated with 600 nm thick F-doped tin oxide (SnOx:F) by electron cyclotron resonance-metal organic chemical vapor deposition and investigated in simulated fuel cell bipolar plates. The results showed that an F-doped tin oxide (SnOx:F) coating enhanced the corrosion resistance of the alloys in fuel cell bipolar plates, though the substrate steel has a significant influence on the behavior of the coating. Coating SUS 316 for fuel cell bipolar plates steel further improved the already excellent corrosion resistance of this material. After coating, the increased ICR values of the coated steels compared to those of the fresh steels. The SnOx:F coating seems to add an additional resistance to the native air-formed film on these stainless steels.
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted much attention because of their moderate light-to-electricity conversion efficiency, easy fabrication, and low cost. At present, platinum (Pt) is used as a counter electrode in DSSCs. However, it is found that Pt dissolves in iodide electrolyte solutions and creates chemical compound such as PtI4 and H2PtI6. Carbon based materials are one of candidates for a counter electrode of DSSCs. We prepare two types of graphite oxides by different chemical treatments; original graphite oxide, hydrazine treated graphite oxide. Each graphite oxide and magnesium nitrate dispersed in deionized water are prepared as solutions for electrophoretic deposition (EPD). Each graphite oxide electrode is deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate by EPD method. Structural and electrochemical properties of each electrode are investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively.
Because silicon thin film solar cells have a high absorption coefficient in visible light, they can absorb 90% of the solar spectrum in a $1-{\mu}m$-thick layer. Silicon thin film solar cells also have high transparency and are lightweight. Therefore, they can be used for building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems. However, the contact electrode needs to be replaced for fabricating silicon thin film solar cells in BIPV systems, because most of the silicon thin film solar cells use metal electrodes that have a high reflectivity and low transmittance. In this study, we replace the conventional aluminum top electrode with a transparent aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) electrode, the band level of which matches well with that of the intrinsic layer of the silicon thin film solar cell and has high transmittance. We show that the AZO effectively replaces the top metal electrode and the bottom fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate without a noticeable degradation of the photovoltaic characteristics.
Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO), which is commonly used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), is a promising material of transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) because of advantages such as high chemical stability, high resistance, high optical transparency (>80% at 550nm), and low electrical resistivity (${\sim}10-4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$). Especially, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been actively studied since Gratzel's research group required FTO substrate as a charge collector. When FTO substrates are used in DSSCs, photo-injected electrons may experience recombination at interface between dye-bonded semiconductor oxides ($TiO_2$) on FTO substrate and the electrolyte. To solve these problems, one is that because recombination at FTO substrate cannot be neglected, thin $TiO_2$ layer on FTO substrate as a blocking layer was introduced. The other is to control the morphology of surface on FTO substrate to reduce a loss of electrons. The structural, electrical, and optical characteristics of morphology controlled-FTO thin films as TCO materials were analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Hall Effect Measurement, and UV spectrophotometer. The performance of DSSCs fabricated with morphology controlled FTO substrates was performed using Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE). We will discuss these results in detail in Conference.
