  • Admixtures for concrete placed underwater have been developed to the stage that they are now widely used. The use of this type of product allows concrete to be placed underwater with far less risk than was previously possible. One of the problems facing users of underwater concreting admixtures is how does one test such products in order to access their performance initially while minimizing the expense of carrying out site trials. This paper will introduce three categories of laboratory test for underwater concrete listed next : fluidity test, non-segregation test, strength test. Trial underwater concretes were ordinary Portland cement. Strength and workability development and segregation resistance properties of the concrete under the coexistence of some kinds of superplasticizer were studied for this laboratory tests.

  • This paper was evaluated the rheology properties according to each step of paste, mortar and HPFRCC as a part of the basic study to development of sprayed high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites(HPFRCC) for protection and blast resistant. Rheology test results in step of paste, in case of GGBFs and FA, it showed that the plastic viscosity and yield stress reduced gradually according to the increase of mixing rate, and in case of SF, the plastic viscosity and yield stress increased radically starting from the mixing rate of 10%. Rheology test results in step of mortar, type of aggregates, it showed that particle shape and grading of aggregate is influence on plastic viscosity and yield stress, and change of volume ratio is influence on plastic viscosity than yield stress. Fluidity and rheology test results in step of HPFRCC, if after a fiber mixed, it showed that viscosity agent is more effective to improve the fluidity and fiber dispersion than superplasticizer.

  • The effects of minor additives on the casting properties of AC4A aluminum alloys were investigated. Measurements of the cooling curve and microstructure observations were conducted to analyze the effects of Ti-B and Sr minor elements during the solidification process. A fine grain size and an increase in the crystallization temperature for the ${\alpha}-Al$ solution were evident after the addition of 0.1wt% Al-5%Ti-1%B additive. The modification effect of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase with the addition of 0.05% Al-10%Sr additive was prominent. A fine eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and a decrease in the growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase were evident. Fluidity, shrinkage and solidification-cracking tests were conducted to evaluate the castability of the alloy. The combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives showed the maximum filling length owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}-Al$ grains. The macro-shrinkage ratio increased, while the micro-shrinkage ratio decreased with the combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives. The macro-shrinkage ratio was nearly identical, while the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of the Al-10%Sr additive. The tendency of the occurrence of solidification cracking decreased owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}-Al$ grains and the modification of the $Mg_2Si$ phase with the combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives.

  • In this study, as part of a study to improve the self-healing performance of concrete structures by applying self-healing capsules made of cementitious materials to cement composite materials, the engineering characteristics of mortars according to PCC(Powder Compacted Capsule) size and mixing ratio were compared and analyzed. For this, fluidity, compressive strength, reload test, carbonation, ultrasonic velocity, and water permeability characteristics were measured according to PCC size and mixing ratio of mortar. As a result of the measurement, the fluidity and compressive strength increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased, and in the case of the load reload test, the healing ratio increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased in the 03PC formulation. In the case of water permeability test, it was found that when PCC was used, the reduction ratio of water flow was up to 35 % higher than that of Plain, and when PCC with a size of 0.3 to 0.6 mm was mixed with 15 %, it was found to be effective in improving the crack healing ratio of the mortar.

  • Onboard fire extinguishing system is important to protect cargo and human lives and every oil tanker has foam type fire extinguishing system. Because of environmental problem, agent which contains materials such as Perfluorinated compounds are regulated and the development of the environmental friendly agent is required. The protein foam has less environmental pollution problem and has an excellent fire extinguish performance to oil fire. In the research, bivalency metal salts were added as stabilizer to increase fire resistance and stability of the foam. Ferrous sulfate, Iron chloride and Nickel chloride were used and to adjust to vessel, sea water was applied. As a stabilizer increased, the expansion ratio was raised. However 25% drainage time was decreased over 2.0 wt.% which is knowable that the foam brokes easily. The amount of generated foam was measured to check fluidity of foam and it appeared that when $FeSO_4$ 1.2 wt.% was added, the amount of generated foam reached large and also the 25% drainage time was high. To evaluate the fire extinguishing performance for oil fire, the small scale oil fire test was executed. When $FeSO_4$ 1.2 wt.% was added, fire extinguishing time was in its shortest which informs fluidity of foam and stability are important factors on fire extinguishing efficiency.

  • Controlled low-strength material(CLSM) which is easily excavated and also known as flowable material, is commonly used as a backfill in utility trenches and other applications. In this study, a rapid-setting flowable material a kind of CLSM made with a field soil were evaluated by an experimental study. The properties ordinarily desired from the mix are: (a) flow under gravity; (b) hardening for early workability(after 4 hours)and cover; and (c) ultimate strength low enough to allow ready excavation. Fluidity of fresh material is evaluated using a simple spread test. Hardening is measured by a mortar penetrometer, and these values are correlated with unconfined compressive strength. It is desirable to keep the ultimate strength to less than $5.6kg/cm^2$ somewhat less target strength is selected for the 28-day value.

  • Optimization of concrete mixing system is very important for the production of quality mixture of concrete and requires very complicated, specialized knowledge as there are a variety of variables that influence the result. One of the methods of optimizing the concrete mixing system is to minimize the volume of cement paste which, in turn, means maximizing the volume of aggregate. The purpose of this study is to determine the minimum volume of cement paste used in the design of concrete mixture and to design the optimum concrete mixing system based on the fluidity of mortar and concrete. In determining the minimum volume of cement paste, experiments of mortar and concrete were performed based on their workability, material segregation and bleeding. Type of aggregate, granularity distribution and sand percentage were used as test parameters and measurements were taken of the distribution of granularity, usage of HRWRA, minimum volume of paste and drying shrinkage and compressive strength of concrete.

  • The cement-asphalt mortar is a mixture of cement and asphalt emulsion, and is utilized as a underpouring materials for the railway track which is used to fill under slab panel space so as to provide a stabilized track support and a tool for reduction of noise and vibration. To increase the workability of grouting, this study investigates the effect of temperature on cement-asphalt mortar by analyzing its physical and mechanical properties before/after hardening according to the temperature (10, 15, 20, 25, $30^{\circ}C$). According to the test results, it is found that as for the physical property of fresh cement-asphalt mortar the more mixture temperature become higher or lower, the more fluidity become worse. But by increasing reducing agent amount and its unit quantity, the required fluidity is met. The compressive strength as physical property of hardened cement-asphalt mortar become lower when temperature is lower but taking it by and large the physical properties of cement-asphalt mortar before/after hardening aren't so affected by temperature and well satisfy the requirement. And it has proved that rate of expansion and freezing and thawing resistance aren't affected by temperature.

  • $WS_2$ powder was added to the Cu/Sn bond metal of diamond micro-blades for machining of semi-conductor and IC chips to improve cutting efficiency. The effect of $WS_2$ additive on cutting efficiency was investigated and compared with the micro-blades with $MoS_2$ developed in previous research. Flexural strength, frictional coefficient, and wear resistance of blades decreased with $WS_2$ but wear depth increased. It was found that the blades including $WS_2$ consumed less momentary energy than the blades containing $MoS_2$ during dicing test. Micro-blades containing $WS_2$ exhibited lower flexural strength than the blades with $MoS_2$ resulting from higher amount of sintering defects relevant to the less effectiveness of $WS_2$ on fluidity. The effect of $WS_2$ and $MoS_2$ on fluidity during sintering was analyzed in terms of mismatching degree between the longitudinal direction of lubricant particles and the perpendicular direction to the compact loading. The blade with 8.1 vol.% of $WS_2$ showed the best cutting efficiency.

  • In the present study, the possibility of Mg-Zn-Y alloys as high temperature casting alloys has been investigated. The fluidity of alloys containing yttrium were better than that of commercial AZ91 alloy because the oxide layer on the surface reduced the reaction between melt, and air and mold, which would reduce the resistance during the process of filling the mold. However, this oxide film reduced the hot-tearing resistance. In the case of ZAW942, this alloy exhibited fluidity and hot-tearing resistance better than AZ91 alloy. Because of thermally stable quasicrystal and other phases obstructed the movement of grains, the creep resistance of alloys containing rare earth elements more than 2 wt% was better than that of AZ91 alloy.
