  • The technology of joining BT (Biotechnology) with NT (Nanotechnology) must be rapidly arranged in 21c. Specially, the technical value is important more and more since the research about MEMS, which synthesizes BT and NT, is variously proceeding on the wide fields. This study by simulation shows the Fluid-Flow within micro Pump used in Bio-MEMS technology through Fluent Program. Namely, this experiment shows the most suitable external conditions and Pump Model within micro Pump by observing the flow of fluids as to the conditions of pressure, temperature and Model when the Fluid flows within micro Pump. We saw the variousness of pressure and temperature as to the existence of Chamber through examining by reference of Fluid-Flow. In the case of the existence of Chamber, the variousness of pressure and temperature is less than in the case of the non-existence of Chamber. By this simulation, we know that the Pump, which has a Chamber, affects the Fluid-Flow less than that. So we can say that it is necessary for us to design the Pump which has a Chamber.

  • Numerical simulations of fluid injection into particulate materials were conducted to observe cavity initiation and propagation using distinct element method. After generation of initial particles and wall elements, confining stress was applied by servo-control method. The fluid scheme solves the continuity and Navior-Stokes equations numerically, then derives pressure and velocity vectors for fixed grid by considering the existence of particles within the fluid cell. Fluid was injected as 7-step into the assembly in the x-direction from the inlet located at the center of the left boundary under confining stress condition, 0.1MPa and 0.5MPa, respectively. For each simulation, movement of particles, flow rate, fluid velocity, pressure history, wall stress including cavity initiation and propagation by interaction of flulid-paricles were analyzed.

  • With all the recent progresses in computer hardware and software technology, the animation of fluids in real-time is still among the most challenging issues of computer graphics. The fluid animation is carried out in two steps - the physical simulation of fluids immediately followed by the visual rendering. The physical simulation is usually accomplished by numerical methods utilizing the particle dynamics equations as well as the fluid mechanics based on the Navier-Stokes equations. Particle dynamics method is usually fast in calculation, but the resulting fluid motion is conditionally unrealistic. The methods using Navier-Stokes equation, on the contrary, yield lifelike fluid motion when properly conditioned, yet the complexity of calculation restrains this method from being used in real-time applications. This article presents a rapid fluid animation method by using the continuum-based fluid mechanics and the enhanced particle dynamics equations. For real-time rendering, pre-integrated volume rendering technique was employed. The proposed method can create realistic fluid effects that can interact with the viewer in action, to be used in computer games, performances, installation arts, virtual reality and many similar multimedia applications.

  • This paper proposes a novel acceleration method for particle based large scale fluid simulation. Traditional particle-based fluid simulation has been implemented by interacting with physical quantities of neighbor particles through the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH) technique[1]. SPH method has the characteristic that there is no visible change compared to the computation amount in a part where the particle movement is small, such as a calm surface or inter-fluid. This becomes more prominent as the number of particles increases. Previous work has attempted to reduce the amount of spare computation by adaptively dividing each part of the fluid. In this paper, we propose a technique to calculate the motion of the entire particles by using the physical quantities of the near sampled particles by sampling the particles inside the fluid at regular intervals and using them as reference points of the fluid motion. We propose a technique to adaptively generate a triangle map based on the position of the sampled particles in order to efficiently search for nearby particles, and we have been able to interpolate the physical quantities of particles using the barycentric coordinate system. The proposed acceleration technique does not perform any additional correction for two classes of fluid particles. Our technique shows a large improvement in speed as the number of particles increases. The proposed technique also does not interfere with the fine movement of the fluid surface particles.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient technique for improving the grid based fluid simulation by sub-grid visuals. The detailed turbulency generated efficiently by Vortex Particle Method are blended with the flow fields coming from the traditional incompressible Navier-Stokes solver. The algorithm enables large- and small- scale detail to be edited separately.

  • Numerical analysis of the three dimensional turbulent flow field in a complex valve trim is carried out to confirm the possibility whether this simulation tool can be used as a design tool or not. The simulation of the incompressible flow in a glove valve is performed by using the commercial code. CFD-ACEA utilizes the finite volume approach as a discretization scheme, and the pressure-velocity coupling is made from SIMPLEC algorithm in it. Four flow cases of the control valve are investigated, and the valve flow coefficient for each case is compared with the experimental data. Simulation results show a good agreement with the experiments, and it is observed that the cavitation model improves the simulation results.

  • Aerodynamic characteristics of cross section shape is an important parameter for the wind response and structural stability of long span bridges. Numerical simulation methods have been introduced to estimate the aerodynamic characteristics for more detailed flow analysis and cost saving in place of existing wind tunnel experiment. In this study, the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation and large eddy simulation( LES) technique were used to estimate lift, drag and moment coefficients of four cross sections. The Strouhal numbers were also determined by the fast Fourier transform of time series of the lift coefficient. The values from simulations and references were in a good agreement with average difference of 16.7% in coefficients and 8.5% in the Strouhal numbers. The success of the simulations is expected to attribute to the practical use of numerical estimation in construction engineering and wind load analysis.

  • A model combining multi-dimensional discretized population balance equations with a computational fluid dynamics simulation (CFD-DPBE model) was developed and applied to simulate turbulent flocculation and sedimentation processes in sediment retention basins. Computation fluid dynamics and the discretized population balance equations were solved to generate steady state flow field data and simulate flocculation and sedimentation processes in a sequential manner. Up-to-date numerical algorithms, such as operator splitting and LeVeque flux-corrected upwind schemes, were applied to cope with the computational demands caused by complexity and nonlinearity of the population balance equations and the instability caused by advection-dominated transport. In a modeling and simulation study with a two-dimensional simplified pond system, applicability of the CFD-DPBE model was demonstrated by tracking mass balances and floc size evolutions and by examining particle/floc size and solid concentration distributions. Thus, the CFD-DPBE model may be used as a valuable simulation tool for natural and engineered flocculation and sedimentation systems as well as for flocculant-aided sediment retention ponds.
