The studying is to analyze characteristic of air flow and is used to design in an automotive HVAC module. The RNG k-e turbulence model with the Upwind Difference convection scheme and an unstructured hybrid mesh with arbitrary matching method were applied to the simulation. The comparing air flow characteristic of the basic HVAC module and total HVAC module with blower were discussed in the paper.
Recently, as the semiconductor production technology develops, there has been growing interest in the cooling system using micro fluid pump. Among the various types of micro fluid pump, the valve-less diffuser/nozzle has been extensively studied in recent years. However, the flat-walled diffuser/nozzle flow has not been clearly looked into due to its non-linear characteristics. In this paper, the flow characteristics of the flat-walled diffuser/nozzle have been analyzed using similitude model and simulations. Similitude models are designed so that the flow pattern is same as that of 1/10 scale flow by using high viscous fluid as working fluid. The results are compared to the simulations. It is shown that the flow characteristics of 2D simulation are different from 3D simulations at high Re region, and the measured pump efficiency is highly dependent on the pressure difference as well as the channel geometry. From these results, the desirable conditions for the efficient pump is discussed.

Behaviors of surges appearing near the stall stagnation boundaries in various fashions in systems of a single-stage compressor and flow-path systems were studied analytically and were tried to put to order. Deep surges, which enclose the stall point in the pressure-mass flow plane, tend to have either near-resonant surge frequencies or subharmonic ones. The subharmonic surge is a multiple-loop one containing, for example, in a (1/2) subharmonic one, a deep surge loop and a mild surge loop, the latter of which does not enclose the stall point, staying only within the stalled zone. Both loops have nearly equal time periods, respectively, resulting in a (1/2) subharmonic surge frequency as a whole. The subharmonic surges are found to appear in a narrow zone neighboring the stall stagnation boundary. In other words, they tend to appear in the final stage of the stall stagnation process. It should be emphasized further that the stall stagnation initiates fundamentally at the situation where a volume-modified reduced resonant-surge frequency becomes coincident with that for the stagnation boundary conditions, where the reduced frequency is defined by the acoustical resonance frequency in the flow-path system, the delivery flow-path length and the compressor tip speed, modified by the sectional area ratio and the effect of the stalling pressure ratio. The real surge frequency turns from the resonant frequency to either near-resonant one or subharmonic one, and finally to stagnation condition, for the large-amplitude conditions, caused by the non-linear self-excitation mechanism of the surge.

The discharge characteristics of inductively coupled $Ar/CH_4$ plasma were investigated by fluid simulation. The inductively coupled plasma source driven by 13.56 Mhz was prepared. Properties of $Ar/CH_4$ plasma source are investigated by fluid simulation including Navier-Stokes equations. The schematics diagram of inductively coupled plasma was designed as the two dimensional axial symmetry structure. Sixty six kinds of chemical reactions were used in plasma simulation. And the Lennard Jones parameter and the ion mobility for each ion were used in the calculations. Velocity magnitude, dynamic viscosity and kinetic viscosity were investigated by using the fluid equations. $Ar/CH_4$ plasma simulation results showed that the number of hydrocarbon radical is lowest at the vicinity of gas feeding line due to high flow velocity. When the input power density was supplied as $0.07W/cm^3$, CH radical density qualitatively follows the electron density distribution. On the other hand, central region of the chamber become deficient in CH3 radical due to high dissociation rate accompanied with high electron density.

The working of diesel particulate filters(DPF) needs to periodically burn soot that has been accumulated during loading of the DPF. The prediction of the relation between an uniformity of gas velocity and soot regeneration efficiency with simulations helps to make design decisions and to shorten the development process. This work presents a comprehensive combined 'DOC+CDPF' model approach. All relevant behaviors of flow fluid are studied in a 3D model. The obtained flow fields in the front of DPF is used for 1D simulation for the prediction of the thermal behavior and regeneration efficiency of CDPF. Validation of the present simulation are performed for the axial and radial direction temperature profile and shows goods agreement with experimental data. The coupled simulation of 3D and 1D shows their impact on the overall regeneration efficiency. It is found that the flow non-uniformity may cause severe radial temperature gradient, resulting in degrading regeneration efficiency.

The paper is to study on the simulation of the micro/macroscale thermo-electrochemical model of a single cell of anode-supported SOFC with direct internal reforming. The coupled heat and mass transport, electrochemical and reforming reactions, and fluid flow were simultaneously simulated based on mass, energy, charge conservation. The micro/macroscale model first calculates the detailed electrochemical and direct internal reforming processes in porous electrodes based on the comprehensive microscale model and then solve the macroscale processes such as heat and mass transport, and fluid flow in SOFCs with assumption of fully-developed flow in gas channel. The simulation results evaluate the overall performance by analyzing distributions of mole fraction, current density, temperature and microstructural design in co/counter flow configurations.
In the polymer shaping process that uses molds, the quality of the molded products is determined not only by the flow of the (molten) polymer but also by the air venting in the cavity. Inadequate air venting in the cavity can cause defects in the product, such as voids, short shot, or black streaks. As it is critical to consider the location and size of the vents for proper venting of the air in the cavity, a method that predicts the flow of air and material is required. The venting of air by the flow of rubber inside the cavity was simulated by using a multi-phase computational fluid dynamics method. Through computer simulation, the interface of rubber and air over time was predicted. Then, the velocity and pressure distribution of the venting air were observed. Our research proposes a fundamental method for analyzing the multi-phase flow of polymer materials and air inside the cavity of a mold.
Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a Lagrangian computational fluid dynamics method that has been widely used in the analysis of physical phenomena characterized by large deformation or multi-phase flow analysis, including free surface. Despite the recent implementation of eddy-viscosity models in SPH methodology, sophisticated turbulent analysis using Lagrangian methodology has been limited due to the lack of computational performance and numerical consistency. In this study, we implement the standard and dynamic Smagorinsky model and dynamic Vreman model as sub-particle scale models based on a weakly compressible SPH solver. The large eddy simulation method is numerically identical to the spatial discretization method of smoothed particle dynamics, enabling the intuitive implementation of the turbulence model. Furthermore, there is no additional filtering process required for physical variables since the sub-grid scale filtering is inherently processed in the kernel interpolation. We simulate lid-driven flow under transition and turbulent conditions as a benchmark. The simulation results show that the dynamic Vreman model produces consistent results with experimental and numerical research regarding Reynolds averaged physical quantities and flow structure. Spectral analysis also confirms that it is possible to analyze turbulent eddies with a smaller length scale using the dynamic Vreman model with the same particle size.

Considering the role of viscosity in the hemorheology, the characteristics of non-Newtonian fluid are important in the pulsatile blood flows. Stenosis, with an abnormal narrowing of the vessel, contributes to block blood flows to downstream tissue and lead to plaque rupture. Therefore, systematic analysis of blood flow around stenosed vessels is crucial. In this study, non-Newtonian behaviors of blood analog fluids around the micro-stenosis with 60 % severity in diameter of $500{\mu}m$ was examined by using CFX under the pulsatile flow conditions with the period of 10 s. Viscosity information of two non-Newtonian fluids were obtained by fitting the value of normal blood and highly viscous blood. As the Newtonian fluid, the water at room temperature was used. During the pulsatile phase, wall shear stress (WSS) is highly oscillated. In addition, high viscous solution gives rise to increases the variation in the WSS around the micro-stenosis. Highly oscillating WSS enhance increasing tendency of plaque instability or rupture and damage of the tissue layer. These results, related to the influence on the damage to the endothelium or stenotic lesion, may help clinicians understand relevant mechanisms.

The attachment of inducer upstream of main impeller is an effective method to improve the suction performance of turbopump. However, various types of cavitation instabilities are known to occur even at the designed flow rate as well as in the partial flow rate region. The cavitation surge occurring at partial flow rates is known to be strongly associated with the inlet back flow. In the present study, in order to understand the detailed structure of internal flow of inducer, we firstly carried out the experimental and numerical studies of non-cavitating flow, focusing on the flow field near the inlet throat section and inside the blade passage of a two bladed inducer at a partial flow rate. The steady flow simulation with cavitation model was also made to investigate the difference of flow field between in the cavitating and no-cavitating conditions.
