A computer simulation was conducted for heat and momentum transfer in a roller kiln. Time-averaged Navier-Stokes equation conjugated with energy balance equation was numerically solved to predict the temperature distribution and fluid flow field in the roller kiln. A computer simulation was performed for a roller kiln for three cases. Firstly, when there are no ceramic materials in the roller kiln, the effect of natural convection was studied on the temperature distribution and fluid flow field. From the result, it was observed that air takes the heat of wall away from the roller kiln by natural convection and the heat was not transferred effectively. Secondly, with ceramic materials temperature difference of ceramic material from the borrom to the top of a ceramic material was about 255K in 5th zone and this is because the heat is transferred from the surface of a ceramic material to flowing air with relatively low temperature. Finally, we considered effect of radiation heat transfer. Temperature difference of ceramic material in 5th zone was about 300 K, due to radiation heat transfer on the ceramic material surfaces.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus larvae. It seriously affects the development of animal husbandry and endangers human health. Due to a poor understanding of the cystic fluid formation pathway, there is currently a lack of innovative methods for the prevention and treatment of CE. In this study, the protoscoleces (PSCs) in the encystation process were analyzed by high-throughput RNA sequencing. A total of 32,401 transcripts and 14,903 cDNAs revealed numbers of new genes and transcripts, stage-specific genes, and differently expressed genes. Genes encoding proteins involved in signaling pathways, such as putative G-protein coupled receptor, tyrosine kinases, and serine/threonine protein kinase, were predominantly up-regulated during the encystation process. Antioxidant enzymes included cytochrome c oxidase, thioredoxin glutathione, and glutathione peroxidase were a high expression level. Intriguingly, KEGG enrichment suggested that differentially up-regulated genes involved in the vasopressin-regulated water reabsorption metabolic pathway may play important roles in the transport of proteins, carbohydrates, and other substances. These results provide valuable information on the mechanism of cystic fluid production during the encystation process, and provide a basis for further studies on the molecular mechanisms of growth and development of PSCs.

Now days, various types of ships are operated to transport both cargo and passengers all around the world. Most of the important auxiliary machinery installed in those ships is fluid machinery such as pumps, compressors, and fans. A large percentage of fluid machinery is pumps which are classified as turbo and positive displacement pumps. This paper analyzes only turbo pumps out of the two types. This thesis has two aims: (a) to analyze the present status of pumps installed in merchant and training ships and (b) to find the correlation among sea going pump kW, port pump kW, GE kW, ME MCR, number of pumps, ME kgf, pump kgf. Based on the ship's type, my paper seeks to find special characteristics as a result of analyzing head, flow rate, and kW. Moreover this paper analyzes and compares number of pumps, rpm of pumps, pump kW/ME MCR and pump kW/GE kW under the conditions of seagoing and berthing according to the ship's type. In conclusion, (1) For the exact comparison, information on the head, kW, flow rate, number of pumps by ship's type, the pump installation status of the Merchant Ships and Training Ships were tabulated and compared in this paper. (2) In order to qualify one ship as the delegate ship, several methods were used. The result of the examination indicates that the chosen ships could be justified as a suitable representation of ships of their own type. (3) The correlation of several values(total pump kW, port pump kW, GE kW, seagoing pump kW, pump weight, ME weight, ME MCR, number of pumps and ME kW) could be obtained.
High permeable faults are important geological structures for fluid flow, energy, and solute transport. Therefore, high permeable faults play an important role in the formation of hydrothermal fluid (or hot spring), high heat flow, and hydrothermal ore deposits. We conducted 2-D coupled thermal and hydraulic modeling to examine thermohydraulic behavior in fault zones with various permeabilities and geometric conditions. The results indicate discharge temperature in fault zones increases with increasing fault permeability. In addition, discharge temperature in fault zones is linearly correlated with Peclet number ($R^2=0.98$). If Peclet number is greater than 1, discharge temperature in fault zones can be higher than $32^{\circ}C$. In this case, convection is dominant against conduction for the heat transfer in fault zones.

The CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) displays have been substituted for FPDs(Flat Panel Displays) such as LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and PDP(Plasma Display Panel) because they have a convex surface, large volume and heavy weight. The productivity of FPDs is greatly dependent on the area of thin glass panel with $0.6{\sim}0.8mm$ thickness because FPDs are manufactured by cutting a large-scaled thin glass panel with patterns to the required product dimensions. So FPD's industries are trying to increase the area of thin glass Panel. Through FEM(Finite Element Method) analysis and fluid analysis, we developed an non-contact and air-floating conveyor system which consists of transport-module, distributor, horizontal/vertical changer and controller for the 7th generation glass panel (2,200mm in width, 1,870mm in length and 0.7mm in thickness). The design technology developed in this study can be effectively applied to a conveyor system for a larger-scaled thin glass panel.
Flow pattern of air-water two phase flow depends on the conditions of pressure drop, void fraction, and channel geometry. Drag reduction in the two phase flow can be applied to the transport of crude oil, phase change systems such as chemical reactor, pool and boiling flow, and to present cavitation which occurs in pump impellers. But the research on drag reduction in two phase flow is not intensively investigated. Therefore, experimental investigations have been carried out to analyze the drag reduction produced and void fraction by Co-polymer(A611p) addition in the two phase flow system. We find that the maximum point position of local void friction moves from the wall of the pipe to the center of the pipe when polymer concentration increases. Also we find that the polymer solution changes the characteristics of the two phase flow. And then we predict that it is closely related with the drag reduction.

Purpose: This study investigates the influences of coughing direction and healthcare worker's location on the transport characteristics of coughed particles in airborne infection isolation room (AIIR), which is commonly called negative pressure isolation room, with a downward ventilation system. Methods: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was used to simulate the airflow and for tracing the behavior of particles. Results: The results show that the airflow pattern and coughing direction have a significant influence on the characteristics of particle dispersion and deposition. When healthcare workers are in the isolation room with the patient who is lying on the bed, it is recommended to be located far from the anteroom to reduce the exposures from infectious particles. And when the patient is lying, it is more effective in removing particles than when the patient is in Fowler's position. Although it is an isolation room that produces unidirectional flow, coughing particles can spread to the whole room and a large number of particles can be deposited onto patient, bed, side rails, healthcare worker, ceiling, floor, and sidewall. Implications: Following the patients' discharge or transfer, terminal cleaning of the vacated room, furniture, and all clinical equipment is essential. Also, it is necessary to establish detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Wall slip models are essential to the study of nonequilibrium gas transport in rarefied and microscale condition that can be found in gas flows associated with aerospace vehicle, propulsion system, and MEMS. The Maxwell slip model has been used for this type of problem, but it has difficulty in defining the so-called accommodation coefficient and has not been very effective in numerical implementation. In the present study, on the basis of Langmuir's theory of the adsorption of gases on metals, a physical slip model is developed. The concept of the accommodation coefficient and the difference of gas particles are clearly explained in the new model. It turned out that the Langmuir model recovers the Maxwell model in the first-order approximation. The new models are also applied to various situations including internal flow in a microchannel. Issues of validation of models are treated by comparing analytic results with experiment.
This investigation is to determine whether the surface complexation of iron influence acute pulmonary responses induced by silica. For this study, three varieties of cation complexed silica were used: $silica-H^+,\;-Zn^{2+},\;and\;-Fe^{3+},$ since the first two are not active in the transport of electrons and generate little free radicals relative to the dust with the surface iron. Rats (270 to 280 g) were intratracheally (IT) instilled with saline, $silica-H^+,\;-Zn^{2+},\;or\;-Fe^{3+}$(5 mg in 0.5 ml saline). After 4 h, cell number, type, and differentiation were analysed in the bronchoalveolar lavage cells, and the levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and total protein were determined in the lavage fluid. In addition, bronchoalveolar lavage cells were cultured, and nitric oxide production was measured using nitrate assay. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) mRNA in the bronchoalveolar lavage cells was also determined by northern blot analysis. Differential counts of the lavage cells showed that red blood cells were increased by 9-, 8-, and 13-fold and total leukocytes (lymphocytes plus polymorphonuclear neutrophils) by 48-, 36-, and 33-fold, following IT $silica-H^+,\;-Zn^{2+},\;and\;-Fe^{3+},$ respectively compared with the saline group. Meanwhile, there were no significant differences in red blood cells and total leukocytes among any of the cation complexed silica groups. The levels of LDH and total protein in the lavage fluid were significantly increased by 3- to 4-fold. However, compared among these silica groups, $Fe^{3+}$? complexation did not significantly change the LDH activity and total protein. NO production in cultured bronchoalveolar lavage cells was elevated by 2-fold, following IT any of the silica treatments compared with the saline group. Furthermore, the steady-state levels of iNOS mRNA in the lavage cells were greatly increased. There were any differences in iNOS mRNA expression among the silica-treated groups as with NO production. These findings suggest that surface complexed iron may not influence the acute pulmonary responses resulted from 4h exposure to silica.

Taurine, a ${\beta}$-amino acid, plays an important role as a neuromodulator and is necessary for the normal development of the brain. Since de novo synthesis of taurine in the brain is minimal and in vivo studies suggest that taurine does not cross the blood-brain barrier, the blood-cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) barrier is likely to play a role in taurine transport between the central nervous system and the systemic circulation. Therefore, we examined in vivo elimination of taurine from the CSF in the rat to characterize in vivo kinetics of elimination for taurine from the CSF is consistent with the in vitro study. Using a stereotaxic device, cannulaes were placed into the lateral ventricle and the cisterna magna of the rat. Radio-labelled taurine and inulin (a marker of CSF flow) were injected into the lateral ventricle, and the concentrations of the labelled compounds in the CSF were monitored for up to 3 hrs in the cisterna magna. The apparent clearance of taurine from CSF was greater than the estimated CSF flow (p<0.005), indicating that there is a clearance process in addition to the CSF flow. Taurine distribution into the choroid plexus was at least 10 fold higher than that found in other brain areas (e.g., cerebellum, olfactory bulb and cortex). When unlabelled taurine was co-administered with radio-labelled taurine, the apparent clearance of the labeled taurine was reduced (p<0.01), suggesting a saturable disposition of taurine from CSF. Distribution of taurine into the choroid plexus, cerebellum, olfactory bulb and cortex was similarly diminished, indicating that the saturable uptake of taurine into these tissues is responsible for the non-linear disposition. A pharmacokinetic model involving first order elimination and saturable distribution described these data adequately. The Michaelis-Menten rate constant estimated from in vivo elimination study is similar to that obtained in the in vitro uptake experiment Collectively, our results demonstrate that taurine is transported in the choroid plexus via a taurine is cleared from the CSF via a saturable process. This process may be functionally relevant to taurine homeostasis in the brain.
