Experimental Study on Mixing Efficiency of Exhaust Gas and Reductant According to SCR Mixer Shape (SCR 믹서형상에 따른 배기가스와 환원제 혼합 효율에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study examined the mixing efficiency of exhaust gas and urea according to the mixer shape in the SCR system. For the experiment, an SCR simulation system was manufactured, and a uniformity detector was attached to the catalyst location to measure the uniformity. The experiment was conducted by setting the exhaust-gas flow rate, temperature, mixer type, and catalyst distance as variables. The experimental results confirmed the swirl angle analysis, urea number distribution, and uniformity. The swirl angle experiment of Models A and B confirmed that the swirl angle of Model A was formed approximately 7 to 8 degrees higher over the entire RPM range. When there was no mixer in the SCR system, the urea and water were concentrated to one side. Mixer Model A showed an even distribution overall, and Model B showed a slightly concentrated tendency at the beginning but then showed a stable distribution of urea. The mixing efficiency of 90%, which was the uniformity target, could be satisfied in Model A and Model B. In particular, Model A showed excellent results that satisfied 90% efficiency at 10 cm of the catalyst position.

  • A coaxial swirl/shear injector using GCH4/LOx as propellants was degisned and manufactured. Flow analysis by Fluent was performed to decide the number of orifice and the rear shapes of inlet orifice etc. Flow rate of the injector was measured according to differential pressure and uniformity of injector's spray pattern was confirmed by a patternator. The results showed that the difference of flow rate was around 10% and the spray angle of oxidizer was $66^{\circ}$.

  • The temperature distribution in a surface of diesel particulate filter(DPF) was measured using an infrared temperature camera. In order to regenerate the DPF, five partitioned electric heaters were used for heating the ceramic filter. The five partitioned heaters were switched on/off with some time interval one the other. The surface temperature distribution in the ceramic filter and electric heaters were measured with varying both the electrical power supply to the heaters and the mass flow rate of the air supply from a blower. The higher mass flow rate in the DPF system enhanced the uniformity in the surface temperature distribution of the ceramic filter due to effective convection heat transfer. The flow in the monolith ceramic structure of the DPF move mainly in the axial direction, which could be identified from the surface temperature of the ceramic filter.

  • Cu-Cr alloy thin film requires good quality of etching be used for TAB technology. The etched cross sec-tion was clean enough when the etching was performed in 0.1M $FeCl_3$ solution at $50^{\circ}C$. The etching rate was increased with the amount of $KMnO_4$. For enhanced profile of cross section and rate, the spray etchning was found to be superior compared to the immersion etching. A series of experiments were performed to improve the uniformity of the current distribution in electrodeposition onto the substrate with lithographic patterns. Copper was electrodeposited from quiescent-solution, paddle-agitated-solution, and air-bubbled-solution to in-vestigate the effect of the fluid flow. The thickness profile of the specimen measured by profilmetry has the non uniformity at feature scale in quiescent-solution, because of the longitudinal vortex roll caused by the natural convection. However, uniform thickness profile was achieved in paddle-agitated or air bubbled solu-tion.

  • Chemical-Mechanical Polishing(CMP) especially is becoming one of the most important ULSI processes for the 0.25m generation and beyond. And there are many elements affecting CMP performance such as slurry, pad, process parameters and pad conditioning. Among these elements the CMP pad is considered one of the most important because of its change. But the surface of the pad has irregular pores, so there is non-uniformity of slurry flow and of contact area between wafer and the pad, and glazing occurs on the surface of the pad. So we make CMP pad with micro structure using micro molding method. This paper introduces the basic concept and fabrication technique of CMP pad with micro-structure and the characteristic of polishing. Experimental results demonstrate the removal rate, uniformity, and time vs. removal rate.

  • An optimization procedure to find the inlet concentration profile that yields the most uniform deposition rate in a cylindrical CVD chamber has been developed. Assuming that the chemical reaction time is negligibly small, a SIMPLE based finite-volume method is adopted to solve the fully elliptic equations for momentum, temperature, and concentration. The inlet concentration profile is expressed by a linear combination of Chebyshev polynomials and the coefficients of which are determined by the local random search technique. It is shown that the present method is very effective in improving the uniformity of the deposition rate, especially when Re is high and/or the wafer is placed close to the inlet. The optimal profiles have been obtained for various Re, Gr, and geometry combinations.

  • Numerical studies were conducted to investigate the internal flow field and combustion characteristics of DISI engine with methanol blended in gasoline. Dual injection was applied and the characteristics were compared to single injection strategy. The amount of the fuel injection was corresponded to air-fuel ratio of each fuel for complete combustion. The preforming model in this study, software STAR-CD was employed for both modeling and solving. The operating speed condition were at 4000 rpm/WOT (Wide open throttle) where the engine was fully warmed. The results of single injection with M28 showed that the uniformity, equivalence ratio, in-cylinder pressure and temperature increased comparing to gasoline (M0). When dual injection was applied, there was no significant change in uniformity and equivalence ratio but the in-cylinder pressure and temperature increased. When M28 fuel and single injection was applied, the CO (Carbon monoxide) and NO (Nitrogen oxides) emission inside the combustion chamber increased approximately 36%, 9% comparing with benchmarking case in cylinder prior to TWC (Three Way Catalytic converter). When dual stage injection was applied, both CO and NO emission amount increased.

  • The inlet/outlet flow in the tube-side of the shell and tube heat exchanger was experimentally measured to investigate the effect of the porous baffle on uniform flow distribution. A 1/3rd scale-downed model of a heat exchanger was used and particle image velocimetry was applied for measuring the instantaneous velocity vector fields. The absolute errors in the flow rate were calculated and compared for the tube-side with and without the porous baffle, by varying the flow rate from 60 to 90 LPM. The results revealed that the porous baffle can improve flow uniformity and reduce the absolute error in the flow rate of the model with the baffle by about 74%, compared to that without the baffle. This result can be used for improving the performance and design of the shell and tube heat exchanger.

A Study on Current Characteristics Based on Design and Performance Test of Current Generator of KRISO's Deep Ocean Engineering Basin

  • To build an environment facility of a large-scale ocean basin, various detailed reviews are required, but it is difficult to find data that introduces the related research or construction processes on the environment facility. The current generator facility for offshore structure safety evaluation tests should be implemented by rotating the water of the basin. However, when the water in the large basin rotates, relatively large flow irregularities may occur and the uniformity may not be adequate. In this paper, design and review were conducted to satisfy the performance goals of the DOEB through computational numerical analysis on the shape of the waterway and the flow straightening devices to form the current in the large tank. Based on this, the head loss, which decreases the flow rate when the large tank water rotates through the water channel, was estimated and used as the pump capacity (impeller) design data. The impeller of the DOEB current generator was designed through computational numerical analysis (CFD) based on the lift surface theory from the axial-type impeller shape for satisfying the head loss of the waterway and maximum current velocity. In order to confirm the performance of the designed impeller system, the flow rate and flow velocity performance were checked through factory test operation. And, after installing DOEB, the current flow rate and velocity performance were reviewed compare with the original design target values. Finally, by measuring the current velocity of the test area in DOEB formed through the current generator, the spatial current distribution characteristics in the test area were analyzed. Through the analysis of the current distribution characteristics of the DOEB test area, it was confirmed that the realization of the maximum current velocity and the average flow velocity distribution, the main performance goals in the waterway design process, were satisfied.
