Triangle-shaped island was been used for the exclusive separation between the right-turn and the through flow. However, in case that existing Triangle-Shaped Island is built at the intersection of narrow road. there are more possibilities of traffic collision trespassing into the opposite lane. Accordingly, separation of the opposite lane is required so as to prevent the intrusion of the large-sized (a heavy) vehicle into the opposite lane turning at the intersection. This study showed the comparison between intersection composed of existing Triangle-Shaped Island and the intersection with Drop Island is added. First of all, in the safety aspect, a method to decide location and shape of Drop Island considering turning trajectory of the large-sized (the heavy vehicle) is addressed. The guideline on the placement of drop island install location and method to decide form the consider heavy truck's turn trajectory in safety side. As a conclusion. we analyzed that drop island is relatively superior to existing Triangle-Shaped Island in terms of driver, ease of driving, driving pleasantness, pedestrian, widening and economic performance aspect.

An endwall boundary layer fence technique was adapted to improve the aerothermal environment of a gas turbine passage. The shape optimization of the fence was performed to maximize the improvement. The turbine passage was simulated by a $90^{\circ}$ turning duct (ReD=360,000). The main purpose of the present investigation was to focus on finding a endwall boundary layer fence with minimum total pressure loss in the passage and heat transfer coefficient on the endwall of the duct. Anothor objective function was to minimize the area on the endwall of the duct. An approximate optimization method was used for the investigation to secure the computational efficiency. Results indicated that a significant improvement in aerodynamic environment can be achieved through the application of the fence. Improvement of the thermal environment was smaller than that of the aerodynamic enviroment.
For decades, simulation technique has been well validated in areas such as computer and communication systems. Recently, the technique has been much used in the area of transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and diversities of driver characteristics have never been considered sufficiently in these methods, although they are considered important factors in traffic flow analysis. In this paper, we propose a traffic simulation tool called Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamics Model (MATDYMO). Road transport consultants, traffic engineers and urban traffic control center managers are expected to use MATDYMO to efficiently simulate traffic flow. MATDYMO has four sub systems: the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. The road management system simulates traffic flow for various traffic environments (e.g., multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals); the vehicle motion control system constructs the vehicle agent by using various vehicle dynamic models; the driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles; and lastly, the integrated control system regulates the MATDYMO as a whole and observes the agents running in the system. The vehicle motion control system and driver management system are described in the companion paper. An interrupted and uninterrupted flow model were simulated, and the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The simulation result of the uninterrupted flow model showed that the driver agent displayed human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving. The simulation of the interrupted flow model was implemented as two cases. The first case analyzed traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the turning traffic volume changed. Second case analyzed the traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the road length changed. The simulation results of the interrupted flow model showed that the close relationship between traffic state change and traffic signal interval.

In this study, the turbulent free surface around KVLCC1 employed in the circular motion test simulation is numerically calculated using a commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) code, FLUENT. Also, hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments around a ship model are calculated during the steady turning. Numerical simulations of the turbulent flows with free surface around KVLCC1 have been carried out by use of RANS equation based on calculation of hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments exerted upon the ship hull. Wave elevation is simulated by using the VOF method. VOF method is known as one of the most effective numerical techniques handling two-fluid domains of different density simultaneously. Boundary layer thickness and wake field are changed various yaw velocities of ship model during the steady turning. The calculated hydrodynamic forces are compared with those obtained by model tests.

It has been reported that a ship sailing in shallow water possesses better straight-line stability due to the change of fluid flow around the ship. This tendency affects manoeuvring characteristics of the ship. To investigate this phenomenon, indoor free running model test(FRMT) on KVLCC2 was carried out in three water depth conditions(H/T = 1.2, 1.5 & 2.0). Turning circle tests(± 35° ) and zigzag tests(± 20° /5° and ± 20° /10° ) were conducted with newly developed indoor FRMT system, and the manoeuvring results were compared with test results from other institutes. As the water depth decreased, the yaw rate of the ship decreased, and the distances of circular trajectories at the same heading angle increased in the turning circle tests. The first overshoot angles of the zigzag tests decreased. From both tests, the time for course change increased as the water depth decreased. These manoeuvring characteristics show that KVLCC2 in shallow water becomes more stable in terms of straight-line stability.

Snap rolling during hard turning and instability during emergency rising are important features of submarine operation. Hydrodynamics modeling using a high incidence flow angle is required to predict these phenomena. In the present study, a quasi-steady dynamics model of a submarine suitable for high-incidence-angle maneuvering applications is developed. To determine the hydrodynamic coefficients of the model, static tests, dynamic tests, and control surface tests were conducted in a towing tank and wind tunnel. The towing tank test is conducted utilizing a Reynolds number of $3.12{\times}10^6$, and the wind tunnel test is performed utilizing a Reynolds number of $5.11{\times}10^6$. In addition, least squares, golden section search, and surface fitting using polynomial models were used to analyze the experimental results. The obtained coefficients are presented in tabular form and can be used for various purposes such as hard turning simulation, emergency rising simulation, and controller design.
The flow and heat/mass transfer characteristics on the squealer tip surface of a high-turning turbine rotor blade have been investigated at a Reynolds number of $2.09{\times}10^5$, by employing the oil-film flow visualization and naphthalene sublimation technique. The squealer rim height-to-chord ratio and tip gap height-to-chord ratio are fixed as typical values of $h_{st}/c$ = 5.5% and h/c = 2.0%, respectively, for turbulence intensities of Tu = 0.3% and 15%. The results show that the near-wall flow phenomena within the cavity of the squealer tip are totally different from those over the plane tip. There are complicated backward flows from the suction side to the pressure side near the cavity floor, in contrast to the plane tip gap flows moving toward the suction side after flow separation/reattachment. The squealer tip provides a significant reduction in tip surface thermal load with less severe gradient compared to the plane tip. In this study, the tip surface is divided into six different regions, and transport phenomena at each region are discussed in detail. The mean thermal load averaged over the squealer cavity floor is augmented by 7.5 percents under the high inlet turbulence level.
The effect of pressure-side opening length on three-dimensional flow fields and aerodynamic losses downstream of a cavity squealer tip has been investigated in a turbine rotor cascade for the squealer rim height-to-chord ratio and tip gap height-tochord ratio of $h_{st}/c$ = 5.05% and h/c = 2.0% respectively. The opening length-to-camber ratio is changed to be $OL/c_c$ = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.7 The results show that longer OL leads not only to weaker secondary flow but also to lower aerodynamic loss in the tip leakage vortex region, while it significantly widens the area with high aerodynamic loss in the passage vortex region. The aerodynamic loss coefficient mass-averaged all over the measurement plane is kept almost constant for $0.0{\leq}OL/c_c{\leq}0.3$, whereas it increases rapidly for $OL/c_c$ > 0.3 in proportion to $OL/c_c$. There is little deterioration in flow turning with increasing $OL/c_c$.

A numerical study was performed for a vane of a compressor with a high-turning angle and meridional divergence. At first, the effect of the suction position was discussed. Then, the optimal suction position was applied to the cascades with the aspect ratio of 2.53 and 0.3, respectively, to get the knowledge of the effect of the endwall boundary layer removal on the secondary flow along the blade height. At last, using the critical principles of the three-dimensional separation, the topological structures of the flow patterns of the body surfaces and the separation configurations were discussed in detail. The results show that the largest reduction of the total loss can be achieved when the suction slot is near the suction side. The topological structure as well as the separation configuration varies due to boundary layer removal, which restrains the flow separation at the corner and delays or depresses the separation on the suction surface. Compared with the original cascade, the cascade with the endwall boundary layer removal has a higher blade loading along the most span. Furthermore the flow loss decreases and distributes uniformly along the span.
