An optimizer has been applied for the optimal design of pipe diameters in the pipe flow network problems. Pipe network flow analysis, which is developed separately, is performed within the interface for the optimization algorithm. A pipe network is chosen for the test, and optimizer GenOpt is applied with Holder-Mead-O'Niell's simplex algorithm after solving the network flow problem by the Newton-Raphson method. As a result, optimally do-signed pipe diameters are successfully obtained which minimize the total design cost. Design cost of pipe flow network can be considered as the sum of pipe installation cost and pump operation cost. In this study, a practical and efficient solution method for the pipe network optimization is presented. Test system is solved for the demonstration of the present optimization technique.
A partial flow blockage in an assembly of a liquid metal reactor could result in a cooling deficiency of the core. To develop a partial blockage detection system, we have studied the changes of the temperature fluctuation characteristics in the upper plenum according to changes of the t10w blockage conditions in an assembly. We analyzed the temperature fluctuation in the upper plenum with the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model in the CFX code and evaluated its statistical parameters. Based on the results of the statistical analyses, we developed a neural network model for detecting a partial flow blockage in an assembly. The neural network model can retrieve the size and the location of a flow blockage in an assembly from a change of the root mean square, the standard deviation, and the skewness in the temperature fluctuation data. The neural network model was found to be a possible alternative by which to identify a flow blockage in an assembly of a liquid metal reactor through learning and validating various flow blockage conditions.

In this paper, we design and implement a network weather map system, which provides a macroscopic view on the whole network topology as well as the network link status and utilization. The proposed system also provides distributed NetFlow-based database facility and Web-based query interface, through which network operators can check the detailed network router or link status as well as submit predefined queries to easily find out and locate heavy hitters and/or their usage. We believe that our develop system will be a useful tool for small-to-mid-scale ISPs or network operators, in managing their own networks in a cost-effective way.
Fan selection procedure and fan noise evaluation method are presented for the system electronic cooling by combining FNM(Flow Network Model) and fan noise correlation model. Internal flow paths and distribution in electronic system we analyzed by using the FNM with the flow resistances for flow elements of the system. Based on the fan operation point predicted from the FNM analysis results, the present fan noise model predicts overall sound power, pressure levels and spectrum. The predictions of the flow distribution, the fan operation and the noise level in electronic system by the present method are well agreed with 3-D CFD and actual test results.

In this paper, we present the PID control method for the controlling flow rate of highly complicated nonlinear Left Ventricular Assist Device(LVAD) with pneumatically driven mock circulatory system. Beat Rate (BR), Systole-Diastole Rate (SDR) and flow rate are used as the main variables of the LVAD system. System modeling is completed using the neural network with input variables (BR, SDR, their derivatives, actual flow) and an output valiable(actual flow). Then, as the basis of this model, we perform the simulation of PID control to predict the performance and tendency of the system and control the flow rate of LVAD system using the PID controller. The ability and effectiveness of identifying and controlling a LVAD system using the proposed algorithm will be demonstrated through computer simulation and experiments.
Conventional Monte Carlo simulation-based methods for seismic risk assessment of water networks often require excessive computational time costs due to the hydraulic analysis. In this study, an Artificial Neural Network-based surrogate model was proposed to efficiently evaluate the flow-based system reliability of water distribution networks. The surrogate model was constructed with appropriate training parameters through trial-and-error procedures. Furthermore, a deep neural network with hidden layers and neurons was composed for the high-dimensional network. For network training, the input of the neural network was defined as the damage states of the k-dimensional network facilities, and the output was defined as the network system performance. To generate training data, random sampling was performed between earthquake magnitudes of 5.0 and 7.5, and hydraulic analyses were conducted to evaluate network performance. For a hydraulic simulation, EPANET-based MATLAB code was developed, and a pressure-driven analysis approach was adopted to represent an unsteady-state network. To demonstrate the constructed surrogate model, the actual water distribution network of A-city, South Korea, was adopted, and the network map was reconstructed from the geographic information system data. The surrogate model was able to predict network performance within a 3% relative error at trained epicenters in drastically reduced time. In addition, the accuracy of the surrogate model was estimated to within 3% relative error (5% for network performance lower than 0.2) at different epicenters to verify the robustness of the epicenter location. Therefore, it is concluded that ANN-based surrogate model can be utilized as an alternative model for efficient seismic risk assessment to within 5% of relative error.

In the competitive electricity market, various pricing methods are developed and practiced in many countries. Among these pricing methods, marginal loss factor(MLF) can be applied to reflect the marginal cost of network losses. For the calculation of MLF, power flow method has been used to calculate system loss deviation. However, this power flow method shows some shortcomings such as necessity of regional reference node, and absence of an ability to consider network constraints like line congestion, voltage limit, and generation output limit. The former defect might affects adversely to the equity of market participants and the latter might generate an inappropriate price signals to customers and generators. To overcome these defects, the utilization of optimal power flow(OPF) is suggested to get the system loss deviation in this paper. 30-bus system is used for the case study to compare the MLF results by the power flow and the OPF method for 24-hour dispatching and pricing, Generator payment and customer charge are compared with these two methods also. The results show that MLF by OPF reflects the power system condition more faithfully than that of by the conventional power flow method
A computer program fur the analysis of engine lubrication systems has been developed. And a case study of a four cylinders gasoline engine is illustrated. This paper gives the mathematical models far oil flow through hydraulic tappet as well as those of oil jet and plain journal bearings. And the flow from an oil pump and the flow resistance through an oil filter is considered at various temperatures. In the analysis, the various design guidelines are applied. The distribution of flow and pressure of an engine lubrication system are calculated, and the pressure data compared with the experimental data at a few points in the engine lubrication system. This method is helpful to design of engine lubrication system efficiently.

This paper presents a graphical windows-based program for the education and training for novel network reduction. The object of developed simulator is to provide users with a simple and useable tool for gaining an intuitive feel for power system analysis. The developed simulator consists of the main module (MMI,GUI), the location marginal price module (LMP), the clustering module and network reduction module. Each module has a separate graphical and interactive interfacing window. The developed simulator needs with the PSS/E input data format, generator cost function, location information. Line admittances of reduced network was determined by using the power flow method(Newton-Raphson). So line flow of reduced network is almost same to original power system. Results of reduced network are compared on the window in the tabular format. Therefore, the developed simulator can be utilized as a useful tool for effective education and training for power system analysis.

This paper presents a graphical windows-based software for the education and training of transmission network charge. The motivation for the development of the simulator is to provide students with a simple and useable tool for gaining an intuitive feel for transmission network charge. The developed simulator consists of the main module (MMI, GUI), the power flow module (PF), the power flow tracing module (PFT), and usage cost DB module (UCD). Each module has a separate graphical and interactive interfacing window. The developed simulator provides with two power system analysis methods (i.e., DC-PF and Modified DC-PF) and supports the PSS/E input data format to load input data of power system. Also, power flow tracing can be calculate using four methods such as "Felix Wu", "Modified Felix Wu", "DCLF ICRP", and "Reverse MW mile". Results of calculation for transmission usage cost are displayed and compared on the window through the table and/or chart. Therefore, the developed simulator can be utilize as a useful tool for effective education and training of transmission network charge.
