  • In order to suggest the methodology for improving the equality of flow distribution in a distribution channel, wet tests were carried out for pilot plant which was scaled down to 1/8 of full scale distribution channel being operated in domestic K_water treatment plant. The correlation between various hydraulic variables and their effects on the equality of flow distribution was evaluated through wet tests using pilot plant. From the results of wet tests, the longitudinal baffle with orifices was installed in the distribution channel, the equality of flow distribution was improved on the condition that the Froude number in pilot plant was similar with that in the full scale channel. Also, the opening ratio of the orifices on the longitudinal baffled did not have influence on the performance of the equality of flow distribution when the average flow velocity and Froud number were relatively low (Froude number ${\fallingdotseq} 0.01$). In the other hand, the performance of the equality of flow distribution was improved with increasing the opening ration of on the longitudinal baffle under conditions of relatively high average flow velocity and high Froud number(${\gtrsim}0.1$)

  • This study was conducted to qualify the equality of the flow distribution from open channel between rapid mixing basin and flocculation basins in a domestic S_ water treatment plant, and to suggest a remedy for improving the equality. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the suggested remedy, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique are used, and for verifying the CFD simulation results tracer tests were carried out. From the results of CFD simulation and tracer tests, it was investigated that the modification of hydraulic structure in the distribution channel, which is to install the longitudinal orifice baffle in flow direction, could improve the equality of the flow distribution over 75%.

  • This study was conducted to qualify the equality of the flow distribution from open channel between rapid mixing basin and flocculation basins in a domestic full-scale water treatment plant, and suggest a remedy for improving the equality. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the suggested remedy, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique are used, and for verifying the CFD simulation results wet tests were carried out for the pilot scale channel based on geometric similarity. From the results of CFD simulation and wet tests, it was investigated that the modification of hydraulic structure in the distribution channel, which is to install the longitudinal orifice baffle in flow direction, could improve the equality of the flow distribution. Also, in the case that Froude number is relatively small (Froude number <<0.03), the open ratio of orifices on the installed baffle hardly affects the equality of flow distribution.

  • This paper presents an improved optimal power flow algorithm, which solves an optimization problem with equality constraints with converted inequality constraints. The standard OPF and the penalty function method should do reconstructing active constraints among the inequality constraints so that the activation of the inequality constraints has been imposing an additional burden to solve OPF problem efficiently. However the proposed algorithm converts active inequality constraints into the equality constraints in order to preclude us from reconstructing the procedures. The effectiveness of the new OPF algorithm is validated by applying the IEEE 14 bus system.

  • In this study, we bring forth a new general formula for inextensible flows of Euclidean curves as regards modified orthogonal frame (MOF) in E3. For an inextensible curve flow, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions, which are denoted by a partial differential equality containing the curvatures and torsion.

  • New algorithms are derived for nonlinear programming problems which are characterized by their large variables and equality and inequality constraints. The algorithms are based upon the introduction of the Dependent-Variable-Elimination method, Independent-Variable-Reduction method, Optimally-Ordered-Triangular-Factorization method, Equality-Inequality-Sequential-Satisfaction method, etc. For a case study problem relating to the optimal determination of load flow in a 10-bus, 13-line sample power system, several approaches are undertaken, such as SUMT, Lagrange's Multiplier method, sequential applications of linear and quadratic programming method. For applying the linear programming method, the conventional simplex algorithm is modified to the large-system-oriented one by the introduction of the Two-Phase method and Variable-Upper-Bounding method, thus resulting in remarkable savings in memory requirements and computing time. The case study shows the validity and effectivity of the algorithms presented herein.

  • Understanding of the hydraulics of flow is very important to support the management of river. The cross-sectional area, average velocity, flow depth and discharge can be regarded as a power function each other. In this paper the flow of Bocheong stream basin is experimentally studied. The correlation analysis was performed between observed hydraulic factors by the power type function. The constants resulted from the correlation analysis were calculated by the geomorphologic characteristics of the watershed using the power type function. The correlation coefficients between the hydraulic factors were appeared close to unit having strong correlationship. The two conditions of equality of the continuity equation were analysed, and the conditions were found to be good results. From these results the observed hydraulic data of Bocheong stream basin can be concluded as a reliable data. The correlation coefficients between the parameters of the hydraulic characteristics and geomorphologic factors were found to be close to unit.
