  • It is known that muscle strength of human body can alter or deteriorate as aging. In this study, we present an inverse dynamics simulation to investigate the effect of muscle strength on performing the daily activities. A 3D musculoskeletal model developed in this study includes several segments of whole body, long and short muscles, ligaments and disc stiffness. Five daily activities such as standing, flexion, finger tip to floor, standing lift close and lifting flexed were simulated with varying the maximum muscle force capacities (MFC) of each muscle fascicles from 30 to $90N/cm^2$ with an increment of $30N/cm^2$. In the result, no solution can be obtained for finger tip to floor and lifting flexed with $30N/cm^2$. Even though the solution was available for standing lift close activity in case of $30N/cm^2$ capacity, many of muscle fascicles hit the upper bound of muscle strength which means that it is not physiologically possible to perform the acvities in reality. For lifing flexed, even the case of $60N/cm^2$ capaciy, represents the moderate healthy people, was not able to find the solutions, showing that 18 muscles among 258 muscle fascicles reached 100% of muscle capacity. The estimated results imply that people who have low muscle strength such as elders or rehabilitation patients were required higher muscle work to perform and maintain the same daily activities than healthy one.

  • There is currently no recognized standard for the size of lifts. Each elevator manufacturer sets the maximum allowable floor area that meets the capacity calculation standard of the elevator using the maximum used car floor area, which is defined by EN-CODE and the domestic inspection standard, and determines the elevator size based on their own standards. In this paper, we propose a method to more easily determine the elevator size. To do this, we implemented a program that calculates the size of the elevator by inputting the dimensions of the hoistway. This program will be useful method for quick decision making and elevator installation considering the elevator factors according to the already determined hoistway size of the building and calculating the EN-CODE currently used and the size of the elevator according to domestic inspection standards.

  • Background: Bedridden patients and disabled persons need help from a guardian or caregiver even in performing simple activities of daily living. In particular, for body transfer of them, the use of a transfer lift has been recommended. However, the devices currently in use have limitations in terms of support according to the individual's characteristics. This study aimed to develop a transfer lift device utilizing the patients' body-fitting sling equipped with an air tube inside the sling. In addition, we have conducted usability tests to examine the safety, effectiveness, and satisfaction with this device. Design: This study conducted usability tests with 10 healthy adults. Methods: Customized sling lifts are generally floor-based devices that consisted of a sling that holds the patient's body and a lift that moves the sling to the desired position. One characteristic feature of the device is an air tube, which is used on the sling to allow the patient's body can be adjusted. A usability test was performed in terms of the operators, who operated the device to transfer the patients. Ten operators tried the device and tested its usability. Results: The mean of 10 question for Questions was 4.18. Conclusion: The device can be useful in the advance- ment and commercialization of customized sling lifts, to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of persons with disabilities.

  • Recently, the number of super high-rise building projects have been increased after recovering from international financial crisis. In super high-rise building project, vertical lifting is critical to overall project productivity, due to its limited lifting equipments. Also for projects which buildings' height are higher than 400m, transfer operation in lifting is inevitable because of lifts' maximum lifting height. In transfer operation, setting a transfer floor is essential for saving lifting time of resources. In this research, using discrete event simulation modeling with AnyLogic 7.0 software and metaheuristic optimization with OptQuest software, the method of optimizing a transfer floor for workers during the morning peak time is proposed. Comparing to the result of the case which transfer floor is designated to the middle floor, setting optimized transfer floor significantly decrease the total lifting time of workers. By using proposed simulation and optimization tool, saving budget and time through increasing available working hour is expected.

  • PURPOSE: This study was aim to the change of muscle activities of lower extremity and waist during lifting a small object on the floor according to different foot position of women in their twenties wearing a skirt. METHODS: 9 women in their twenties wearing a skirt were selected and were measured the muscle activities of medial gastrocnemius (MG), tibialis anterior (TA), vastus lateralis (VL) and iliocostalis (IC) when they lifted a small object on the floor. The two different foot position employed were "both feet posed straight side by side" (condition 1) and "both feet posed diagonally to 45 degree" (condition 2) used. The order of feet position was selected randomly and the subject took a rest for 30 min between tests to prevent muscle fatigue. We calculated the mean and standard deviation of muscle activities and used Mann-Whitney U test to compare the difference between the two foot positions with SPSS(IBM Korea) RESULTS: The muscle activity of condition 2 was greater than that of condition 1 in right side of TA, VL, and IC and left side of TA, VL, MG and IC. The right side of TA, VL and left side VL were significant difference between condition 1 and condition 2(p<.05). CONCLUSION: We suggest "both feet posed straight side by side" position is better if a woman wearing a skirt lift the small object and it will help prevent the low back and lower limb problems in the future.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in detecting the posterior superior alveolar(PSA) artery canal in a sample of the Egyptian population. Materials and Methods: CBCT images of 600 maxillary sinuses of patients were examined for the presence or absence of the PSA artery along the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus, and for the diameter and type of the canal in relation to age and sex. The distances from the canal to the alveolar crest and sinus floor were also measured. Each canal was assessed to determine whether it was bifid. Results: The PSA artery canal could be detected in 92.0% of the sinuses. The mean distance from the inferior border of the PSA artery canal to the sinus floor was 8.2±2.2 mm (range, 3.2-13.6 mm) in males and 7.3±2.1 mm (range, 3.0-13.1 mm) in females. The mean distance from the inferior border of the PSA artery canal to the alveolar crest was 18.2±2.7 mm (range, 11.0-23.9 mm) in males and 17.4±2.3 mm (range, 10.8-23.5 mm) in females. The mean diameter of the PSA artery canal was larger in male subjects. The PSA artery canal was bifid in 8.7% of cases. The most frequently observed location of the PSA artery canal was intraosseous(82.2%). Conclusion: CBCT was confirmed to be a valuable tool for evaluation and localization of the PSA artery before maxillary sinus lift surgery to avoid intraoperative bleeding.

  • Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among items in a given database. Association rules are frequently used by retail stores to assist in marketing, advertising, floor placement, and inventory control. There are three primary quality measures for association rule, support and confidence and lift. Association rule is an interesting rule among purchased items in transaction, but the negative association rule is an interesting rule that includes items which are not purchased. Boolean Analyzer is the method to produce the negative association rule using PIM. But, PIM is subjective. In this paper, we present statistical objective criterion in negative association rules using Boolean Analyzer.

  • The present report describes the case of a patient who underwent maxillary sinusitis right after dental implant installation with sinus lifting. Computed tomography scan revealed a dental implant (#16) was protruded inside the right maxillary sinus and confirmed the obstruction of ostium. A symptom remission was gained with the dual approaches combined by functional endoscopic sinus surgery and an intra-oral approach. Fully recovered function and healing of sinus were identified after 10 months follow-up. We report the case of sinusitis caused by protrusion of implants with sinus floor lift procedures and propose that practitioners should be aware of the possible its complications and management.
