The Ro-Ro ferry ship capsized and sank to the bottom of the sea because of the rapid turning for several reasons, such as lack of stability due to the center of gravity rise from the extension and rebuilding of the stern cabin, excessive cargo loading, and shortage ballast, poor lashing, etc. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the cause of the ship's rapid flooding, capsizing, and sinking accident according to rapid turning scientifically and accurately using the Fluid-Structure Interaction( FSI) analysis technique. Several tests were conducted for this cause investigation of the flooding and sinking accident correctly and objectively, such as the realization of the accurate ship posture tracks according to the accident time using several accident movies and photos, the validation of cargo moving track, and sea water inflow amount through the exterior openings and interior paths compared with the ship's posture according to the accident time using the floating simulation and hydrostatic characteristics program calculation, and the performance of a full-scale ship flooding·sinking simulation.

The flood damage in urban areas due to torrential rain is increasing with urbanization. For this reason, accurate and rapid flooding forecasting and expected inundation maps are needed. Predicting the extent of flooding for certain rainfalls is a very important issue in preparing flood in advance. Recently, government agencies are trying to provide expected inundation maps to the public. However, there is a lack of quantifying the extent of inundation caused by a particular rainfall scenario and the real-time prediction method for flood extent within a short time. Therefore the real-time prediction of flood extent is needed based on rainfall-runoff-inundation analysis. One/two dimensional model are continued to analyize drainage network, manhole overflow and inundation propagation by rainfall condition. By applying the various rainfall scenarios considering rainfall duration/distribution and return periods, the inundation volume and depth can be estimated and stored on a database. The Rainfall-Duration-Flooding Quantity (RDF) relationship curve based on the hydraulic analysis results and the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) that conducts unsupervised learning are applied to predict flooded area with particular rainfall condition. The validity of the proposed methodology was examined by comparing the results of the expected flood map with the 2-dimensional hydraulic model. Based on the result of the study, it is judged that this methodology will be useful to provide an unknown flood map according to medium-sized rainfall or frequency scenario. Furthermore, it will be used as a fundamental data for flood forecast by establishing the RDF curve which the relationship of rainfall-outflow-flood is considered and the database of expected inundation maps.

Recently, as traffic flooding attacks such as DoS/DDoS and Internet Worm have posed devastating threats to network services, rapid detection and proper response mechanisms are the major concern for secure and reliable network services. However, most of the current Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) focus on detail analysis of packet data, which results in late detection and a high system burden to cope with high-speed network traffic. In this paper we propose an SNMP-based lightweight and fast detection algorithm for traffic flooding attacks, which minimizes the processing and network overhead of the detection system, minimizes the detection time, and provides high detection rate. The attack detection algorithm consists of three consecutive stages. The first stage determines the detection timing using the update interval of SNMP MIB. The second stage analyzes attack symptoms based on correlations of MIB data. The third stage determines whether an attack occurs or not and figure out the attack type in case of attack.

This study addresses the escalating flood damages prompted by recent climate shifts characterized by extreme weather events and proposes rainwater infiltration blocks as a potential solution. Recognizing the limitations inherent in existing inundation simulation methods, we advocate for the integration of novel functionalities, particularly leveraging drone technology. Our research endeavors encompass experimental assessments of inundation and flooding simulation technologies. These evaluations are conducted within areas where rainwater infiltration storage blocks have been implemented, juxtaposed against existing programs utilizing Digital Elevation Models(DEM) and Digital Surface Models(DSM). Through this comparative analysis and a meticulous scrutiny of the adaptability of inundation and flooding simulation to real-world deployment scenarios, we ascertain the efficacy of the simulation program as a decision-making tool for identifying optimal sites for rainwater infiltration storage block installation.
Recently, due to the influence of climate change, the occurrence of damage to heavy rain is increasing around the world, and the frequency of heavy rain with a large amount of rain in a short period of time is also increasing. Heavy rains generate a large amount of outflow in a short time, causing flooding in the downstream part of the mountainous area before joining the small and medium-sized rivers. In order to reduce damage to downstream areas caused by flooding, it is very important to calculate the outflow of mountainous areas due to torrential rains. However, the sewage network flooding analysis, which is currently conducting the most analysis in Korea, uses the time and area method using the existing data rather than calculating the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area, which is difficult to determine that the soil characteristics of the region are accurately applied. Therefore, if the rainfall is analyzed for mountainous areas that can cause flooding in the downstream area in a short period of time due to large outflows, the accuracy of the analysis of flooding characteristics that can occur in the downstream area can be improved and used as data for evacuating residents and calculating the extent of damage. In order to calculate the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area, the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area was calculated using MIKE SHE among the MIKE series, and the flooding analysis in the downstream area was conducted through MIKE 21 FM (Flood model). Through this study, it was possible to confirm the amount of outflow and the time to reach downstream in the event of rainfall in the mountainous area, and the results of this analysis can be used to protect human and material resources through pre-evacuation in the downstream area in the future.

In this study, around Jeju area where climatic change is most considerably appearing in Han Peninsula, we prepared sea level rise height caused by sea level rise (Seogwipo 5.6 mm/yr, Jeju 5.3 mm/yr) and a sea level rise scenario for the case when an enlarged typhoon attacks during high water ordinary spring tide, and evaluated flooding area and effect on road and facility using Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and GIS Spatial Analysis Technique. As a result, the flooding areas were shown to be 2.9 $km^2$ in 2040, 5.4 $km^2$ in 2070, and maximum 5.4 $km^2$ in 2100. Analyzing the effect of flooding on each type of road, the local roads(Gun-do) were shown to be mostly affected. The most flood effected facilities were individual houses. Especially, as there is a possibility for casualties to occur due to disaster in Hwabuk-dong because the effect of flooding on individual houses in this area was shown to be high. In addition, flood on port facilities will considerably affect logistic and marine activities. This study is thought to be a basic data which can be utilized for establishment of strategic coping measures and policies of government affiliated organizations through analysis of effect of sea level rise on construction field.
The importance of the dual drainage system model has increased as the urban flood damage has increased due to the increase of local storm due to climate change. The dual drainage model is a model for more accurately expressing the phenomena of surface flow and conduit flow. Surface runoff and pipe runoff are analyzed through the respective equations and parameters. And the results are expressed visually in various ways. Therefore, inundation analysis results of dual drainage model are used as important data for urban flood prevention plan. In this study, the applicability of the COBRA model, which can be interpreted by combining the dual drainage system with the natural watershed and the urban watershed, was investigated. And the results were compared with other dual drainage models (XP-SWMM, UFAM) to determine suitability of the results. For the same watershed, the XP-SWMM simulates the flooding characteristics of 3 types of dual drainage system model and the internal flooding characteristics due to the lack of capacity of the conduit. UFAM showed the lowest inundation analysis results compared with the other models according to characteristics of consideration of street inlet. COBRA showed the general result that the flooded area and the maximum flooding depth are proportional to the increase in rainfall. It is considered that the COBRA model is good in terms of the stability of the model considering the characteristics of the model to simulate the effective rainfall according to the soil conditions and the realistic appearance of the flooding due to the surface reservoir.
The objective of this study is to develop a two-dimensional (2D) flood model that can perform accurate flood analysis with simple input data. The 2D flood inundation models currently used to create flood forecast maps require complex input data and grid generation tools. This sometimes requires a lot of time and effort for flood modeling, and there may be difficulties in constructing input data depending on the situation. In order to compensate for these shortcomings, in this study, a grid-based model that can derive accurate and rapid flood analysis by reflecting correct topography as simple input data was developed. The calculation efficiency was improved by extending the existing 2×2 sub-grid model to a 5×5. In order to examine the accuracy and applicability of the model, it was applied to the Gamcheon Basin where both urban and river flooding occurred due to Typhoon Rusa. For efficient flood analysis according to user's selection, flood wave propagation patterns, accuracy and execution time according to grid size and number of sub-grids were investigated. The developed model is expected to be highly useful for flood disaster mapping as it can present the results of flooding analysis for various situations, from the flood inundation map showing accurate flooding to the flood risk map showing only approximate flooding.
Many advanced reactor designs rely on passive systems to fulfill safety functions during accident sequences. These systems depend heavily on boundary conditions to induce a motive force, meaning the system can fail to operate as intended because of deviations in boundary conditions, rather than as the result of physical failures. Furthermore, passive systems may operate in intermediate or degraded modes. These factors make passive system operation difficult to characterize within a traditional probabilistic framework that only recognizes discrete operating modes and does not allow for the explicit consideration of time-dependent boundary conditions. Argonne National Laboratory has been examining various methodologies for assessing passive system reliability within a probabilistic risk assessment for a station blackout event at an advanced small modular reactor. This paper provides an overview of a passive system reliability demonstration analysis for an external event. Considering an earthquake with the possibility of site flooding, the analysis focuses on the behavior of the passive Reactor Cavity Cooling System following potential physical damage and system flooding. The assessment approach seeks to combine mechanistic and simulation-based methods to leverage the benefits of the simulation-based approach without the need to substantially deviate from conventional probabilistic risk assessment techniques. Although this study is presented as only an example analysis, the results appear to demonstrate a high level of reliability of the Reactor Cavity Cooling System (and the reactor system in general) for the postulated transient event.
Tidal land reclamation provided water resources and land for agriculture and contributed stable crop production. However, climate change by global warming disrupts the hydrologic circulatory system of the earth resulting in sea level rise and more frequent flood for reclaimed arable land. Recently, Suyu reclaimed paddy field in Jindo-gun experienced prolonged inundation after heavy rainfall and there is a growing risk of flood damage. Onsite survey and flood analysis using GATE_Pro model of Korea Rural Corporation were conducted to investigate causes of flooding. To perform the analysis, input data such as inflow hydrograph, the lowest elevation of paddy field, neap tide level, management level of Gunnae estuary lake at the time of the flood were collected. Flood analysis confirmed that current drainage facilities are not enough to prevent 20year return period flood. The result of analysis showed flooding more than 24hours. Therefore, flood mitigation alternatives such as sluice gate expansion, installation drainage pumping station, refill paddy land, and catch canal were studied. Replacing drainage culvert of Suyu dike to sluice gate and installing drainage pumping station at the Gunne lake were identified as an effective flood control measures. Furthermore, TM/TC (SCADA) system and expert for gate management are required for the better management of drainage for estuary dam and flood mitigation.
