In general, processing flow of the conventional floating-point multiplication consists of either multiplication, addition, normalization, and rounding stage of the conventional floating-point multiplier requries a high speed adder for increment, increasing the overall execution time and occuping a large amount of chip area. A floating-point multiplier performing addition and IEEE rounding in parallel is designed by using the carry select addder used in the addition stage and optimizing the operational flow based on the charcteristics of floating point multiplication operation. A hardware model for the floating point multiplier is proposed and its operational model is algebraically analyzed in this paper. The proposed floating point multiplier does not require and additional execution time nor any high spped adder for rounding operation. Thus, performance improvement and cost-effective design can be achieved by this suggested approach.

The process of conventional floating-point additio $n_traction operation consists of alignment, additio $n_traction, normalization, and rounding stage. Because rounding stage needs an incrementor or adder, it occupies much time and chip area. In addition, it needs additional time and hardware for renormalization which occurs in overflow due to rounding In this paper, floating-point adde $r_tractor performing rounding and additio $n_traction in parallel is presented by using the feature of additio $n_traction and carry select adder used in additio $n_tracting stage. Proposed floating point adde $r_tractor doesn't need time and incrementor nor adder for rounding. Also, renormalization doesn't occur since rounding is performed prior to normalization.to normalization.

Floating point unit system follows IEEE 754 Standard. In this paper, we used 1's complement system instead of 2's complement to practice the arithmetic. By converting we enable this system to compute simply and fast. To improve the speed of newly design adder, we used a transformation Carry selector adder of 53 bits. In paper, a design of floating point unit high efficiency micro processor system about for high speed.

We propose a variable-latency Decimal Floating Point(DFP) adder which adopts the dual data path scheme. It is to speed addition and subtraction of operand that has identical exponents. The proposed DFP adder makes use of L. K. Wang's operand alignment algorithm, but operates through high speed data-path in guaranteed accuracy range. Synthesis results show that the area of the proposed DFP adder is increased by 8.26% compared to the L. K. Wang's DFP adder, though critical path delay is reduced by 10.54%. It also operates at 13.65% reduced path than critical path in case of an operation which has two DFP operands with identical exponents. We prove that the proposed DFP adder shows higher efficiency than L. K. Wang's DFP adder when the ratio of identical exponents is larger than 2%.

An FPU(Floating Point unit) is the principle component in high performance computer and is placed on a chip together with main processing unit recently. As a Processing speed of the FPU is accelerated, the rounding stage, which occupies one of the floating point Processing steps for floating point operations, has a considerable effect on overall floating point operations. In this paper, by studying and analyzing the processing flows of the conventional floating point adder/subtractor, multipler and divider, which are main component of the FPU, efficient rounding mechanisms are presented. Proposed mechanisms do not require any additional execution time and any high speed adder for rounding operation. Thus, performance improvement and cost-effective design can be achieved by this approach.

In this paper, a DFPA(decimal floating-point adder) designed a pipeline structure that uses a LZA(leading zero anticipator) to reduce critical route to shorten delay to improve the speed of operation processing. The evaluation and verification of performance of proposed DFPA applied the Flowrian tool with simulation and Cyclone III FPGA was set as the target on the Quartus II tool for the synthesis. The proposed method compared and verified to proposed the other method using same input data. As a result, the performance of proposed method is improved 11.2% and 5.9% more than L.K.Wang's method and etc.. Also, it is confirmed that improvement of operation processing speed and reduction of the number of delay elements on critical path.
In this paper, two-stage pipelined floating-point arithmetic unit (FP-AU) is designed. The FP-AU processor supports seventeen operations to apply 3D graphics processor and has area-efficient and low-latency architecture that makes use of modified dual-path computation scheme, new normalization circuit, and modified compound adder based on flagged prefix adder. The FP-AU has about 4-ns delay time at logic synthesis condition using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS standard cell library and consists of about 5,930 gates. Because it has 250 MFLOPS execution rate and supports saturated arithmetic including a number of graphics-oriented operations, it is applicable to mobile 3D graphics accelerator efficiently.
Conventional floating-point adders have one data-path that is used for all operations. This paper describes a floatingpoint adder eeveloped for low power consumption, which has three data-paths one of which is selected according to the exponent difference. The first is applied to the case that the absolute exponent difference (AED) of two operands is less than 1, and the second is for 1

This research paper presents an ALU unit using 1.0$\mu$m CMOS technology capable of doing IEEE standard single and double precision floating poing calculation within 32ns (2 clock) at 60 MHz clock speed. This 32ns speed was achieved by using 9ns 1's complement arithmetic 54 bit carry select adder instead of previous 2's complement adders. On the first cycle, this adder is used for addition or subtraction and the second cycle uses this adder for rounding. This reduces the number of required adders from two to one. Speed improvement is 2 to 5 times compared with previous 40MHz design. Design goal was 60MHz, however, this unit is functioning at 80 MHz at room temperature.

With the expansion of floating-point operation requirements for fast high-speed data signal processing and logic operations, the speed of the floating-point operation unit is the key to affect system operation. This paper studies the performance characteristics of different floating-point multiplier schemes, completes partial product compression in the form of carry and sum, and then uses a carry look-ahead adder to obtain the result. Intel Quartus II CAD tool is used for describing Verilog HDL and evaluating performance results of the floating point multipliers. Floating point multipliers are analyzed and compared based on area, speed, and power consumption. The FMAX of modified Booth encoding with Wallace tree is 33.96 Mhz, which is 2.04 times faster than the booth encoding, 1.62 times faster than the modified booth encoding, 1.04 times faster than the booth encoding with wallace tree. Furthermore, compared to modified booth encoding, the area of modified booth encoding with wallace tree is reduced by 24.88%, and power consumption of that is reduced by 2.5%.
