In this paper, the resonance response of spar-type floating platform in coupled heave and pitch motion is investigated using a CPU time-effective numerical method. A coupled nonlinear 2-DOF equation of motion is derived based on the potential wave theory and the rigid-body hydrodynamics. The transient responses are solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta (RK4) method and transformed to the frequency responses by the digital Fourier transform (DFT), and the first-order approximation of heave response is analytically derived. Through the numerical experiments, the theoretical derivation and the numerical formulation are verified from the comparison with the commercial software AQWA. And, the frequencies of resonance arising from the nonlinear coupling between heave and pitch motions are investigated and justified from the comparison with the analytically derived first-order approximation of heave response.
A two-dimensional floating body with a moon pool under forced heave motion, including a piston mode, is numerically simulated. A dynamic CFD simulation is carried out to thoroughly investigate the flow field around a two-dimensional moon pool over various heaving frequencies. The numerical results are compared with experimental results and a linear potential program by Faltinsen et al. (2007). The effects of vortex shedding and viscosity are investigated by changing the corner shapes of the floating body and solving the Euler equation, respectively. The flow fields, including the velocity, vorticity, and pressure fields, are discussed to understand and determine the mechanisms of wave elevation, damping, and sway force.
In this paper the dynamic effects due to the free water motions in tanks upon the lateral motion of a floating body in regular waves are calculated, in order to obtain the relationship between a motion of a floating body and that of the free water in tanks. Under the assumption that the fluid is ideal and motion amplitudes are small, velocity potential of the fluid in tanks is calculated by the source distribution method and the hydrodynamic forces and moments are calculated by the integration of fluid pressures over the tank surface. Hydrodynamic effects of the fluid on the floating body are expressed in terms of added mass and coupling coefficient obtained from the integration. Computations are carried out for ship with seven wide center tanks and comparisons between the liquid cargo loading case and the rigid cargo loading case are shown.
We can save a lot of efforts and time to perform various kinds of multibody system dynamics simulations if the equations of motion of the multibody system can be formulated automatically. In general, the equations of motion are formulated based on Newton's $2^{nd}$law. And they can be transformed into the equations composed of independent variables by using velocity transformation matrix. In this paper the velocity transformation matrix is derived based on a topological modeling approach which considers the topology and the joint property of the multibody system. This approach is, then, used to formulate the equations of motion automatically and to implement a multibody system dynamics simulation program. To verify the the efficiency and convenience of the program, it is applied to the lifting simulation of a floating crane.
Due to the limitations of onshore wind power, the wind power industry is currently transitioning to offshore wind power. There has been active research on the development of a floating LiDAR system (FLS) that is easy to install at a low cost. The Carbon Trust published a commercialization roadmap for FLS in 2013, and an updated version was released in 2018, taking into account industry experience. The roadmap divides the development maturity of FLS into three stages: Stage 1 (prototype), Stage 2 (pre-commercialization), and Stage 3 (commercialization), each of which requires availability and accuracy assessment. The results must meet the requirements of the Key Performance Index (KPI) for each stage. Therefore, when developing FLS, the motion compensation algorithm of the FLS is essential because the LiDAR can produce incorrect measurements of wind speed and direction due to the six degrees of freedom in motion. In this study, we implemented the FLS motion compensation algorithm developed by Nassif, F.B. et al. and validated it using data provided by Fraunhofer. In conclusion, the results showed that the determination coefficients of wind speed and wind direction were improved compared to those obtained from the met mast.
In this study, the behavior of the coupled mooring system and floating body is analyzed. The related works are introduced for the mooring analysis of the floating body. Equations motion are introduced for calculating mooring force connected with the floating body. For formulating the equations of motion, the concept of the constrained force is applied for compact expression of it. The input and output data of the module for calculating mooring force is defined. The static analysis and quasi-static analysis are performed. For the analysis, equilibrium equation for elastic catenary mooring line is used by employing finite element method, and the C# solver is developed in this research. The analysis results are validated by comparing with other research results.

The interaction between incident waves and a floating rectangular breakwater with the vertical porous side plates has been investigated in the context of the two-dimensional linear potential theory. The matched eigenfunction expansion method(MEEM) for multiple domains is applied to obtain the analytic solutions. The dependence of the transmitted coefficients and motion responses on the design parameters, such as porosity and protruding depth of side plates, is systematically analyzed. It is found that the non-dimensional wavelength where the sudden drop of transmission coefficients occurs, corresponds to the heave resonant frequency obtained from Ruol et al. (2013) for $\pi$-type floating breakwater. It is concluded that both properly selected porosity and deeper protruding depth of side plates are helpful in reducing the transmission coefficients and also extending the wider applicable extent of incident wavelength for performance enhancement.

The motion of a floating body and the free surface flow are the most important design considerations for ships and offshore platforms. In the present research, a numerical method is developed to simulate the motion of a floating body and the free surface using a fixed rectilinear grid system. The governing equations are the continuity equation and Naviere-Stokes equations. The boundary of a moving body is defined by the interaction points of the body surface and the centerline of a grid. To simulate the free surface the Modified Marker-Density method is implemented. Ships advancing in regular waves, the interaction of waves by a fixed circular cylinder array and the response amplitude operators of an offshore platform are simulated and the results are compared with published research data to check the applicability. The numerical method developed in this research gives results good enough for application to the initial design stage.
The wind can be stronger and steadier further from shore, but water depth is also deeper. Then bottom-mounted towers are not feasible, and floating turbines are more competitive. There are additional motions in an offshore floating wind turbine, which results in a more complex aerodynamics operating environment for the turbine rotor. Many aerodynamic analysis methods rely on blade element momentum theory to investigate aerodynamic load, which are not valid in vortex ring state that occurs in floating wind turbine operations. So, vortex lattice method, which is more physical, was used in this analysis. Floating platform's prescribed positions were calculated in the time domain by using floating system RAO and waves that are simulated using JONSWAP spectrum. The average value of in-plane aerodynamic force increase, but the value of out-of-plane force decrease. The maximum variation aerodynamic force abruptly increases in severe sea state. Especially, as the pitch motion of the barge platform is large, this motion should be avoided to decrease the aerodynamic load variation.
