Study for Effects of Sloshing Effect Reduction Device on Vessel Motion

  • Since sloshing effects influences ship motions including floater's natural frequencies. The significant factors changing ship motions are inner liquid impact loads and inertia forces and moments with respect to its filling ratio. This means that changing sloshing loads with sloshing effects reduction device (SERD) may control ship motions. In this regard, conceptual model for adjustable SERD was suggested by authors and then implanted into fully coupled program between vessel motion and sloshing. By changing clearances of baffles in the inner tank which were component of SERD, then the roll RAOs from each case were obtained. It is revealed that using well-controlled SERD can maintain natural frequencies of floater even inner tank has different filling ratio.

  • 최근 들어 기상이변 등의 영향으로 우리나라뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로 가뭄 및 홍수가 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 가뭄과 홍수는 농촌지역에서도 피해를 발생시키지만, 특히 인구가 밀집되어 있는 도시지역에서 막대한 피해를 유발시킨다. 도시유역 소하천에서 가뭄과 홍수로 인한 피해를 경감시키기 위해서는 무엇보다도 지속적이고 신뢰성 있는 하천유황 자료의 획득이 시급하다. 그러나 현재 우리나라에서 수집되고 있는 유황자료는 자료의 수집이 대하천에 편중되어 있고, 관측소의 위치가 고정되어 있어 원하는 시점과 지점의 자료를 획득하기 힘든 단점이 있다. 따라서 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 언제 어디서나 쉽게 유황자료를 획득할 수 있는 관측 시스템의 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 도시 소하천 지리정보시스템과 ubiquitous floater로부터 발생된 유황자료를 결합하여 PC에서 원거리에 위치한 도시 소하천 흐름의 상태를 정확하게 파악하고, 홍수, 갈수와 같은 하천흐름의 이상을 신속하고 정확하게 파악할 수 있는 도시 소하천 관리 시스템을 개발하였다.

  • New designed floating breakwater made of Polyethelener with considering the introduction of new material for being harmony with environment and stability of the floater is developed for a marine ranching. Model experiment in order to test its capability is performed for the regular and irregular waves in ocean engineering basin. Good capability to break the incident wave within the 6 second of period and 1 m of height is shown. Breaking efficiency for long period wave is not so good in regular and irregular wave. The results of this study will contribute to the design and construction of the floating breakwater.

An optimization framework of a parametric Octabuoy semi-submersible design

  • An optimization framework using genetic algorithms has been developed towards an automated parametric optimization of the Octabuoy semi-submersible design. Compared with deep draft production units, the design of the shallow draught Octabuoy semi-submersible provides a floating system with improved motion characteristics, being less susceptible to vortex induced motions in loop currents. The relatively large water plane area results in a decreased natural heave period, which locates the floater in the wave period range with more wave energy. Considering this, the hull design of Octabuoy semi-submersible has been optimized to improve the floater's motion performance. The optimization has been conducted with optimized parameters of the pontoon's rectangular cross section area, the cone shaped section's height and diameter. Through numerical evaluations of both the 1st-order and 2nd-order hydrodynamics, the optimization through genetic algorithms has been proven to provide improved hydrodynamic performance, in terms of heave and pitch motions. This work presents a meaningful framework as a reference in the process of floating system's design.

Study on Fire.Explosion Accidents Prediction Model Development of LPG Vaporizer (LPG 기화기의 화재.폭발사고 예측모델개발에 관한 연구)

  • We have garnered 3,593 data of gas accidents reported for 12 years from 1995, and then analyzed the LPG vaporizer accidents according to their types and causes based on the classified database. According to the results the gas rupture has been the most common accident followed by the release, explosion and then fire accidents, the most frequent accident-occurring sub-cause is LPG check floater faults. In addition, we have applied the Poisson Probability Functions to predict the most-likely probabilities of fire, explosion, release and rupture with the LPG vaporizer in the upcoming 5 years. In compliance with Poisson Probability Functions results, in the item which occurs below 3 "LPG-Vaporizer-Fire", in the item which occurs below 5 "LPG-Vaporizer-Products Faults-Check Floater" and the item which occurs below 10 appeared with "LPG-Vaporizer-Products Faults". From this research we have assured the successive database updating will highly improve the anticipating probability accuracy and thus it will play a key role as a significant safety- securing guideline against the gas disasters.

Mixing Analysis of Floating Pollutant Using Lagrangian Particle Tracking Model (Lagrangian 입자추적모형을 이용한 부유성 오염물질의 혼합해석)

  • In this research, mixing behavior of the floating pollutant such as oil spill accidents was analyzed by studying the advection-diffusion of GPS floaters at water surface. The LPT (Lagrangian Particle Tracking) model of EFDC (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Computer Code) was used to simulate the motion of the GPS floater tracer. In the field experiment, 35 GPS floaters were injected at the Samun Bridge of Nakdong River. GPS floaters traveled to downstream about 700 m for 90 minutes. The field data by the GPS floater experiments were compared with the simulation in order to calibrate the parameter of LPT model. The turbulent diffusion coefficient of LPT model was determined as $K_H/hu^*$ = 0.17 from the scatter diagram. The arrival time of peak concentration and transverse diffusion from the simulation results were similar with the experiments from the concentration curves. Numerical experiments for anticipation of damage from floating pollutant were conducted in the same reach of the Nakdong River and the results show that the pollutant cloud transported to the left bank where the Hwawon pumping station is located. For this reason, it is suggested that the proper action should be needed to maintain the safety of the water withdrawal at the Hwawon pumping station.

Analysis of the application of the GPS electronic floater to identify the flow in the estuary (기수역에서의 흐름특성을 파악하기 위한 GPS 전자부자의 적용 가능성 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 기수역에서의 GPS 전자부자를 활용한 계측 데이터와 염분측정 데이터를 비교분석하여 GPS 전자부자의 거동 특성이 담수의 실제 거동특성과 같이 일치하게 나타나는지 확인하고, GPS 전자부자에 대한 활용성을 증명하고자 하였다. 기수역에서의 담수와 해수의 분포를 확인하기 위해서는 많은 인력과 장비를 소모하며 수리량과 염분도에 대한 측정을 통해 분석을 할 수 있는데, 대표적인 수리량 측정장비인 ADCP 또는 ADV는 각종 측정 한계들이 존재한다. 따라서 이러한 기수역에서의 수체 구간별 흐름 특성이 어떻게 나타나는지 확인하기 위해서 GPS 전자부자를 활용하고자 하였으며. GPS 전자부자의 데이터와 수직방향으로 측정한 염분도 데이터와 비교하고자 하였다. 수영강 좌수영교 상류 1km지점에서 주입하였으며 간조 시와 만조 시에 유하시켜 수영강에 위치한 좌수영교와 수영교에서 각각 좌측, 중간, 우측에서 수심방향으로 측정한 염분도를 상층 중층 하층으로 평균하여 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 GPS 전자부자는 표면부자이기 때문에 만조 시 하류방향으로 더 뻗어 나가는것으로 확인하였고, 간조 시에는 흐름이 더디거나 정체하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 계측 결과는 담수의 흐름 특성과 일치하게 나타나는 것을 확인하였고 이러한 GPS Floater를 활용한다면 굳이 각종 수질을 측정하지 않아도 흐름 상황으로 간조인지 만조인지에 대한 상황과 염분 분포를 대략적으로 알 수 있다. 이러한 GPS 전자부자의 위치데이터와 시간을 잘 이용한다면 ADCP의 유속 측정에 대한 단점을 보완할 수 있는 Lagrangian 타입의 유속을 측정 할 수 있다. 이러한 GPS 전자부자를 하천에서 선주입으로 활용한다면 각 구간별로 수체에 대한 흐름과 유속들을 분석할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 또한 GPS 전자부자를 좀더 활용하여 IoT 기반 수질센서 등과 같은 각종 센서가 GPS Floater에 결합이 된다면, 흘러가면서 각종 데이터 정보취득을 통해 수체내 흐름을 분석하는 것뿐만 아니라 수환경 유출오염사고들에 대한 초기대응에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 사료 된다.

Performance Test and System Analysis on Check-Floater in a Coil-Typed LP Gas Vaporizer (전열온수식 LPG 기화기 액 유출 방지장치 성능평가 및 시스템 분석)

  • The metering systems in LPG vaporizers have been frequently exposed to severe conditions and resulted in many problems such as gauge malfunctioning and rupturing if the check-floaters fail to stop liquid outflow when the heat supply for the vaporization of LPG is interrupted. Therefore, to analysis the vaporizer system we carried out the vaporizer performance test and float bulb test by newly devised test equipments. Consequently, we determined the specific gravity of the float bulb and reasonable operating temperature ranges for the LPG and heating waters.
