  • PIP is an abbreviation of 'Performance Improvement Package', which is a package that can improve performance by applying some design changes to existing aircraft. Boeing provides PIP applicable to B777-200, and Airbus provides PIP applicable to A350-900 as standard. PIP provided by Boeing and Airbus is a separate task, but it is expected to reduce fuel consumption by reducing drag through aerodynamic improvements. The PIP applied to the A350-900 includes work such as increasing Winglet Height and re-twisting Outboard Wing. This study is to verify the effect of PIP application of the A350-900 aircraft and use it as basic data for economic analysis. The aerodynamic improvement studies and expected effects of the PIP application were examined, and the actual flight data of the PIP-applied and the non-applied aircraft were compared to confirm the PIP application effect. This paper provides empirical results for the aviation industry on the PIP application efficiency as a method of improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emission.

  • Accurate aerodynamic characterization of projectile is crucial for successful development of munition. The aerodynamic characterization of fin stabilized projectile is more difficult than characterization of traditional symmetric ballistic projectile. Instrumented free flight experiments were conducted to quantify rolling behavior of fin stabilized projectile. The instrumented projectiles were launched from a rifled tube and the onboard sensor data were acquired through a telemetry transmitter. Roll rate was measured for fin stabilized projectile by means of an angular rate sensor. And, roll damping coefficients were estimated from onboard sensor data acquired during gun firing and trajectory analysis of mathematical model.

  • This study utilized the HEXACO model developed by Lee et al. to investigate the effect of personal level personality variables on adaptive performance of new pilots engaged in domestic airlines. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that extroversion had a statistically significant effect on adaptive performance, while openness to experience and conscientiousness did not affect the adaptive performance statistically. In the analysis of interaction between personality variables and demographic variables, there was a statistically significant interaction effect between the origin and extroversion. Second, it was confirmed that the extroversion variable had an influence on the adaptive performance, suggesting that personality variables should be reflected in the selection of new pilots. Third, when the extroversion level was low, the adaptive performance of the civilian was relatively lower than that of the military.

  • Most secure solutions like cryptography are software based and they are designed to mainly deal with the outside attacks for traditional networks, but such soft security is hard to be implemented in wireless sensor networks to counter the inside attacks from internal malicious nodes. To address this issue, reputation has been introduced to tackle the inside malicious nodes. Reputation is essentially a stimulating mechanism for nodes' cooperation and is employed to detect node misbehaviors and improve the trust-worthiness between individual nodes. Among the reputation models, binomial distribution based reputation has many advantages such as light weight and ease of implementation in resource-constraint sensor nodes, and accordingly researchers have proposed many insightful related methods. However, some of them either directly use the modelling results, apply the models through simple modifications, or only use the required components while ignoring the others as an integral part of the whole model, this topic still lacks a comprehensive and systematical review. Thus the motivation of this study is to provide a thorough survey concerning each detailed functional components of binomial distribution based reputation for wireless sensor networks. In addition, based on the survey results, we also argue some open research problems and suggest the directions that are worth future efforts. We believe that this study is helpful to better understanding the reputation modeling mechanism and its components for wireless sensor networks, and can further attract more related future studies.

  • The arena of strategic competition between the US and China is expandable from international politics, trade and commerce to finance. What would happen if financial sanctions against China are imposed by the US? Would US financial sanctions lead to a sudden outflow of foreign capital and a liquidity crisis in China? We try to address these questions by estimating China's capital flows-at-risk with the CDS premium on Chinese sovereign funds. We follow Gelos et al. (2019) in setting up a quantile regression model from which China's foreign capital flow-at-risks are estimated. Based on our analysis of China's monthly capital flow data, we find that a rise in the CDS premium has statistically significant negative impacts on China's foreign capital flows-at-risk, mainly in banking flows. However, the analysis also found that due to favorable global conditions, an increase in the CDS premium is unlikely to trigger a shift to a sudden outflow of foreign capital at the moment. Meanwhile, this study found no statistically significant correlation between Korea's capital flows-at-risk and the CDS premium, suggesting that the negative impact of US financial sanctions on China would not increase the probability of capital flight from Korea in a significant manner.

  • This paper presents advancement in multi- unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) cooperative area surveillance, focusing on optimizing UAV route planning through the application of genetic algorithms. Addressing the complexities of comprehensive coverage, two real-time dynamic path planning methods are introduced, leveraging genetic algorithms to enhance surveillance efficiency while accounting for flight constraints. These methodologies adapt multi-UAV routes by encoding turning angles and employing coverage-driven fitness functions, facilitating real-time monitoring optimization. The paper introduces a novel path planning model for scenarios where UAVs navigate collaboratively without predetermined destinations during regional surveillance. Empirical evaluations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methods, showcasing improved coverage and heightened efficiency in multi-UAV path planning. Furthermore, we introduce innovative optimization strategies, (Foresightedness and Multi-step) offering distinct trade-offs between solution quality and computational time. • Industry 5.0 puts forward higher requirements for smart cities, including low-carbon, sustainable, and people-oriented, which pose challenges to the design of smart cities. In response to the above challenges, this study introduces the cyber-physical-social system (CPSS) and parallel system theory into the design of smart cities, and constructs a smart city framework based on parallel system theory. On this basis, in order to enhance the security of smart cities, a sustainable patrol subsystem for smart cities has been established. The intelligent patrol system uses a drone platform, and the trajectory planning of the drone is a key problem that needs to be solved. Therefore, a mathematical model was established that considers various objectives, including minimizing carbon emissions, minimizing noise impact, and maximizing coverage area, while also taking into account the flight performance constraints of drones. In addition, an improved metaheuristic algorithm based on ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm was designed for trajectory planning of patrol drones. Finally, a digital environmental map was established based on real urban scenes and simulation experiments were conducted. The results show that compared with the other three metaheuristic algorithms, the algorithm designed in this study has the best performance.
