  • Performances of combined adsorption and coagulation were evaluated as one of the options for pre-treatment or post-treatment of MSW landfills leachate and industrial landfill leachate. The COD and color removals of leachate from an old MSW landfill were 35% and 33% at an alum dose of 300mg/L with preceding PAC(powdered activated carbon) dose of 200mg/L, respectively. The COD and color removals of leachate from an young MSW landfill were 58% and 25% at an alum dose of 700mg/L and PAC dose of 500mg/L, respectively. The COD and color of biologically treated leachate from an industrial waste landfill were removed up to 32% and 68%, respectively, with pH control at addition of 500mgAlum/L and 1,000mgPAC/L. Adsorption and coagulation process with pH control showed better COD and color removals than the process without pH control for biologically treated leachate from an industrial waste landfill. The color removal was influenced greatly by pH control, while COD removal was not significant. No difference in removal efficiency was observed between adsorption-coagulation and coagulation-adsorption process. The COD removal was accomplished mainly by adsorption, while coagulation was a key mechanism of color removal. However, the mechanism of COD removal was obscure, when BOD/COD ratio was high. Maximum net increases in COD and color removals by the adsorption-coagulation process were respectively 45% and 46% compared with the unit process of adsorption or coagulation, although those removals depended on leachate characteristics. Thus, adsorption-coagulation process was considered to be effective for pre- and post-treatment of landfill leachate, and has distinct features of simple, flexible, stable and reliable operation against fluctuation leachate quality and flowrate.

  • Background: For reconstruction of the mild to moderate medial orbital wall fractures, various surgical approaches have been used. Prior existing W-shaped incision was a direct local approach through a 3 cm incision on the superior medial orbital area with a titanium mesh implant. In this study, the authors modified W-shaped incision and reconstructed the defect with silastic sheet to improve the result and the postoperative scar. Methods: This study included 20 patients who had mild to moderate size of medial wall defect and therefore relatively suitable for reconstruction with silastic sheets from July, 2009 to December, 2011. A modified W-shaped skin incision approximately 1.2 to 1.5 cm in length was made along the superior medial orbital rim from approximately 1 cm medial to the medial canthus to the lower border of the medial eyebrow. The angles of the limbs of the W ranged from 150 to 160 degrees. Results: By using soft flexible silastic sheet, the authors reduced the incision from 3 to 1.5 cm, and by widening the angle of the W limbs, scars were more effectively hided in the relaxed skin tension line. Scar assessment was done with modified patient and observer scar assessment scale and mean score from patients was 2.08 and mean score from observers was 2.12. Conclusion: Although this method will not be suitable for every case, it can be a consistent method to obtain the surgical goal in treatment of mild to moderate blowout fractures of the medial orbital wall.

  • This study aimed to investigate the evaluation of firefighting gloves and the behavior regarding their usage, of firefighting officials in Seoul, using a questionnaire. Responses from a total of 270 firefighters who are responsible for putting out fires or undertaking rescue works in Seoul were analyzed. As per the findings, the firefighters considered ease of hand operation and fire/flame protection as the most important performance factors for firefighting gloves, and they were satisfied with the supply status of the gloves. The average number of firefighting gloves currently owned by the firefighters was 2.6 ± 0.8 pairs. Thirty-nine percent of the respondents said that their firefighting gloves lasted, with maintained performance, for more than six months and less than a year, and when asked how they handled the gloves with degraded performance, 46% of them said that they would discard them. Sixty-eight percent of the respondents said that they used the most recently developed and supplied gloves, which they considered as the most satisfying gloves and which they mainly used these days. Respondents were highly satisfied with the fire/flame protection performance of their firefighting gloves, but were less satisfied, however, with the glove fit. These results suggest that there has been a significant improvement in the overall performance level and supply status of the firefighting gloves. Given the current situation, careful considerations with flexible approaches are needed on the current firefighting gloves size system as well as on the personal protective equipment maintenance and management scheme.

  • This article provides the base in relation to the classification system of public records of Japan and Tiwan which the original order of the classification system of public records of Government-General of Chosun is reconstructed and the efficient classification system is prepared. The classification system of public records at the period of Meiji(明治) in Japan was classified two forms, one is function-based classification, the other is organization-based classification. Each ministry(省) was fundamentally based In function-based classification and organization-based classification, adopted them in changed forms as its condition and situation had been changed. Government-General of Tiwan adopted Japan's archival management system and put its classification system and life schedule In operation. The classification system of Government-General of Tiwan adopted function-based classification of the ministry of foreign affairs in Japan, changed its forms as the organization and business activity were transformed. As a result of arrangement and analysis of examples for the classification of public records of Government-General of Chosun from 1910' to the middle area of 1930', the classification of public records of Government-General of Chosun was constructed on level order; 'organization of ministry(部) or department(局)--business activity of ministry or department--low function of business activity of ministry or department'. But this classification system had two sides, flexible and unstable in that the classification system had exeptional parts and the breadth of items was changed greatly. The classification system of Government-General of Chosun, which had adopted organization-based classification of the ministry of home affairs in Japan, result in expanding the breadth of items and causing great change of items for the organization and business activity were vast and its change was very great.

  • As tactical networks are gradually shifting toward IP-based flexible operation for diversified battlefield services, QoS(Quality-of-Service) coordination for service differentiation becomes essential to overcome the heterogeneous and scarce networking resources limitations. QoS coordination for tactical network traffic should be able to monitor and react the dynamic changes in underlying network topology and service priorities. In this paper, by adopting the emerging cloud-native service mesh concept into tactical network context, we study the feasibility of intelligent QoS coordination by employing tactical service mesh(TSM) as an additional layer to support enhanced traffic quality monitoring and control. The additional TSM layer can leverage distributed service-mesh proxies at tactical mesh WAN(Wide Area Network) nodes so that service-aware differentiated QoS coordination can be effectively designed and integrated with TSM-assisted traffic monitoring and control. Also, by validating the feasibility of TSM layer for QoS coordination with miniaturized experimental setup, we show the potential of the proposed approach with several approximated battlefield traffics over a simulated TSM-enabled tactical network.

Sportswears with the ability to control LEDs with respect to lighting of the surrounding were developed by applying embroidery with conductive yarns to 2 types of men's T-shirts and 2 types of women's leggings pants for outdoor activities and exercise purposes. LEDs were applied to the front and back of men's T-shirts and to the rear of the waist of women's leggings. Men's T-shirts were printed where the LEDs were to be applied, and inside, they were embroidered with conductive threads on the hot-melt fabric to be attached, and then connected with LED. Women's pants were embroidered on the elastic band, in the form of a sine wave that gives it ability to stretch, and finally the elastic band was hidden inside the waistband. The operation of the light sensor in the dark provided the ability to protect joggers from night drivers or cyclists. LEDs were activated when the wearer turns on the fashionable device on his/her shoulder by pressing it. It was able to reduce the risk of accidents by giving recognizability to vehicles, bicycles, and athletes approaching or passing by at night, and securing safe distance from vehicles, etc. Internal embroidery technology had the same flexible and lightweight functions as ordinary clothing products, making it possible to apply to tight-fit smart T-shirts or leggings pants designs.

  • Due to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) modernization, the recently launched GNSS satellites transmit signals at various frequency bands of L1, L2 and L5. Considering the Korea Positioning System (KPS) signal and other GNSS augmentation signals in the future, there is a high probability of applying more complex communication techniques to the new GNSS signals. For the reason, GNSS receivers based on flexible Software Defined Radio (SDR) concept needs to be developed to evaluate various experimental communication techniques by accessing each signal processing module in detail. In this paper, we introduce a multi-constellation (GPS/Galileo/BeiDou) multi-band (L1/L2/L5) SDR by utilizing Ettus USRP N210. The signal reception module of the developed SDR includes down-conversion, analog-to-digital conversion, signal acquisition, and tracking. The down-conversion module is designed based on the super-heterodyne method fitted for MHz sampling. The signal acquisition module performs PRN code generation and FFT operation and the signal tracking module implements delay/phase/frequency locked loops only by software. In general, it is difficult to sample entire main lobe components of L5 band signals due to their higher chipping rate compared with L1 and L2 band signals. Experiment result shows that it is possible to acquire and track the under-sampled signals by the developed SDR.

  • All 5G NR devices must first perform the cell search and synchronization process to communicate with the base station. In this process, PSS detection is one of the most important and difficult problems in 5G NR communication because PSS detection must first be successful in order to extract essential information from the following signals. Among the various PSS detection methods, this paper describes a cross-correlation-based detection method, and the implementation methods of the tap delay line hardware with parallelization are introduced and compared in terms of complexity and detection speed. In addition, the interface required for system configuration including the PSS detector and control software for efficient and flexible operation are also explained. In this paper, the resource usages of Xilinx's UltraScale+ FPGA are compared for various PSS detector structures and analyzed according to various parallelization levels.

  • Bulky iron-core potential transformers (PT) are installed in a tank of gas insulated switchgears (GIS) for a system voltage measurement in power substations. In this paper, we studied an electronic voltage transformer (EVT) embedded in a spacer for miniaturization, eco-friendliness, and performance improvement of GIS. The prototype EVT consists of a capacitive probe (CP) that can be embedded in a spacer and a voltage Follower with a high input and a low output impedance. The CP was fabricated in the form of a Flexible-PCB to acquire the insulation performance and to withstand vibration and shock during operation. Voltage ratio of the prototype EVT is about 42,270, and the frequency bandwidth of -3 dB ranges from 0.33 Hz to 3.9 MHz. The voltage ratio error evaluated at about 6%, 12% and 18% of the rated voltage of 170 kV was 0.32%, and the phase error was 12.9 minutes. These results were within the accuracy for the class 0.5 specified in IEC 60044-7 and satisfy even in ranges from 80% to 120% of the rated voltage. If the prototype EVT replaces the conventional iron-core potential transformer, it is expected that the height of the GIS could be reduced by 11% and the amount of SF6 will be reduced by at least 10%.
