Flexible bistable chiral splay nematic display mode using reactive mesogens

  • Proposed herein is a flexible bistable chiral splay nematic display mode with an enhanced memory retention time under external distortion. By adopting the polymerized reactive-mesogen structure mixed in a liquid crystal layer, local anchoring energy is generated on the boundary between the polymer structures, and the relaxation from the ${\pi}$-twisted state to the initial splay state could be interrupted. As a result, the memory retention time becomes significantly longer, and the stability against the external distortion is enhanced.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear modeling method for dynamic analysis of flexible structures undergoing overall motions that employs the mode approximation method. This method, different from the naive nonlinear method that approximates only Cartesian deformation variables, approximates not only deformation variables but also strain variables. Geometric constraint relations between the strain variables and the deformation variables are introduced and incorporated into the formulation. Two numerical examples are solved and the reliability and the accuracy of the proposed formulation are examined through the numerical study.

  • This paper presents a computational method for deformation modes of a flexible body in multibody system from the experimental modal analysis and an efficient method for flexible multibody dynamic analysis by use of the modes. It is difficult to directly use experimental modal parameters in flexible multibody dynamic analysis. The major reasons are that there are many inconsistencies between experimental and analytical modal data and experimental noises are inherent in the experimental data. So two methods, such as, a method for ortho-normalization of experimental modes and the other one for mode expansion, are suggested to gain deformation modes of a flexible body from the experimental modal parameters. Using the virtual work principle, the equation of motion of a flexible body is derived. The effectiveness of the proposed method will be verified in the numerical example of cab vibration of a truck by comparing analysis and test results.

  • 본 논문에서는 FPC(Flexible Printed Circuit) 케이블에 적층된 나선형 인덕터를 내장하여 다기능 케이블을 위한 공통 모드 필터를 제안하였다. 공통 모드 필터가 내장된 FPC 케이블은 별도의 SMD(Surface Mounted Device) 필터 없이 연성 케이블과 공통 모드 차단 특성을 가짐으로서, 다기능 케이블이라는 새로운 개념을 제시한다. 내장된 공통 모드 필터는 광대역의 공통 모드 차단 대역을 가지고 손실이 큰 페라이트와 같은 자성 물질을 사용하지 않아 차동 모드 삽입 손실 및 반사 손실이 향상되었다. 3-turn 인덕터를 가진 공통 모드 필터는 공통 모드차단 대역이 $0.4{\sim}3.12GHz$이며, 페라이트를 적용한 상용 LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fire Ceramic) 공통 모드 필터에 비해 3 GHz에서 1.95 dB, 8 GHz에서 6.97 dB의 향상된 차동 모드 삽입 손실을 갖는다.

  • In the development of a high speed and light weight manipulator, it is necessary to consider the flexibility of a robotic arm. The infinite dynamics must be analyzed to obtain the finite mode modeling to achieve the feasible controller design of the robotic arm. The modeling procedures of the flexible robot arm, and natural frequencies and mode shapes by the constrained and unconstrained mode method are illustrated. The transfer function of the robot arm with a payload is also shown. The controller is designed by the pole assignment and optimal control theory to compensate for the unmodelled dynamic effects to the low order system. Also, the pole assignment method involving the harmonic vibration mode is presented through computer simulation.

  • A Real Time Mode Selecting Stochastic Controller (RTMSSC) is developed as a new control strategy for a vibrating system under irregular disturbance. Displacement information and frequency characteristics obtained from me::id analysis of the system are used to design a Mode Selecting Controller. This Paper explains design technique of RTNSSC by applying it to the suppression of a flexible beam experiencing random vibration. The RTMSSC is designed by stochastic control from the modal information. The frequency information of the flexible system is utilized from the Mode Selecting Unit (MSU) based on a Fast-Fourier Transformation algorithm. The performance of the proposed technique, RTMSSC, is compared with that of Real Time Stochastic Controller developed recently, which show quite promising results.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method and control law for plannar type two-link flexible manipulator. In designing flexible links, we use Rayleigh's principle. To control flexible manipulator, input distribution controller is used, which is primarily on the basis of nonlinear variable structure control(VSC). The simulation results are also shown.

  • In this work, position and vibratiion control of a two-link manipulator with one flexible link, which an unkoun but bounded payload mass and two pair of artificial muscle-type penumatic actuators, are investgated. A flexible link robot has advantages over a figid link robot in the sense that it is much safer when it cones into contact with its environment, including humans. Furthermore, for the sake of safety, it would be more desirabel if an actuator could deliver required force while maintaining proper compliance. An artificial muscle-type penumatic actuator is adequate for such cases. In this study, a controller based on singular perturbation method, adaptive and sliding mode contro, and .mu.-synthesis is developed. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is confirmed through simulations and experiments.

  • Previous method of computer simulation to predict the dynamic response of a vehicle has been based on the assumption that vehicle structure is rigid. If the flexibility of the vehicle structure becomes too large to ignore, rigid body assumption will no longer give good estimation of the dynamic characteristics. Therefore, in order to predict more precise vehicle dynamic characteristics, flexible multi-body dynamic analysis of a vehicle is necessary. This paper investigates dynamic characteristics of vehicle systems with flexible frames numerically. Joint reaction forces, vertical accelerations, pitch accelerations are analyzed for the vehicle systems with various flexible frames using multi-body dynamic analysis code and finite element analysis code.

A Robust Control Approach for Maneuvering a Flexible Spacecraft

  • In the paper, a robust control mechanism is presented to maneuver a flexible spacecraft with the deflection reduction during large slewing operation at the same time. For deflection reduction and maneuvering of the flexible spacecraft, a control mechanism is developed with the application of stochastic optimal sliding-mode control, a linear tracking model and input shaping technique. A start-coast-stop maneuver is employed as a slewing strategy. It is shown that the control mechanism with he strategic maneuver results in better performance and is more efficient than rigid-body-like maneuver, by applying to the Spacecraft Control Laboratory Experiment (SCOLE) system in a space environment.
