  • An experimental study is carried out to investigate the effects of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. Experiments are conducted with air mass flow rates from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used for the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. In this study, a new test section is designed to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases, and that the increases in water flow rate mainly enhance cooling performance. Air mass flow rate weakly influences averaged heat transfer coefficient when water mass flow rate is low, but averaged heat transfer coefficient increases remarkably as air mass flow rate in case of high water mass flow rate.

  • An experiment is conducted to investigate the effect of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. The air mass flow rate ranges from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used fur the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. The test section is designed distinctively from previous works to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases. The water flow rate provides substantial contribution to enhancement of cooling performance. On the other hand, The air mass flow rate weakly influences the averaged heat transfer rate when the water mass flow rate is low, but the averaged heat transfer rate Increases remarkably with the air mass flow rate in case of the high water mass flow rate.

  • Three kinds of jet flows encountered in the practical airframe design phase are discussed in this paper. Firstly, the side jet effect on the cavity flow over the flat plate was investigated. Secondly, the aerodynamic modeling of side jet influence on body-tail configuration was presented. Computational study of the similarity parameters was done to minimize the wind tunnel test. Lastly, supersonic jet impingement on a flat plate surrounded by solid walls was simulated numerically for both axi-symmetric and three-dimensional calculations with moving body method.

  • 본 연구에서는 내재적 이중시간 전진기법을 이용한 비정상 Navier-Stokes 코드를 개발하였다. 내재적 이중시간 전진기법은 가상시간에 대한 새로운 잔류항을 도입하는 개념으로 비정상 잔류항에 실시간 미분항을 더한 잔류항을 가상시간으로 푸는 기법이다. 비정상 코드 검증 방법으로 Stokes 2nd 문제인 '주기성 하모닉 진동을 하는 평판 위의 층류 유동'을 해석하였다. 계산된 속도분포와 마찰계수를 방정식 이론적 해와 비교한 결과 매우 근접한 수치해를 얻을 수 있었다.

Development of Plate-type Fine Atomizing Nozzles for SI Engines with Intake-port Fuel Injection

  • This paper presents both experimental and numerical studies regarding nozzles used for the SI engine application, particularly for the intake-port fuel injection type. The atomization mechanism of the multi-hole plate nozzle was investigated experimentally. It was found that the nozzle design added turbulence into the liquid-film jet and the jet disintegrated rapidly. Based on the results, various plate types for the nozzle were developed and tested; six hole nozzle for liquid jet interaction, plate-type nozzle with flat duct channel, and the simpler structured nozzle. The spray characteristics of the prototype nozzles were examined experimentally while the internal flow of the nozzle was investigated computationally. It was shown that turbulent liquid-film was injected and atomization quality was improved by controlling the internal flow condition of the plate-type nozzle.

  • A numerical investigation is made of air flow in a spinner equipment used for cleanning and drying flat display panels. A unique feature of the spinner under question is the placement of a torus plate cover over the rotating plate. The turbulent flow is driven by rotation of a large disk and suction by the exhaust system connected to vacuum chamber. The flow is modelled as an axisymmetric two-dimensional flow and computation is conducted by using the FLUENT package with a version of k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. The required capacity of the exhaust system is assessed numerically. The usefulness of the cover in controlling air flow circulation is examined. A computational trouble shooting is attempted to resolve the problem of panel rising which occurred in real experiment.

  • 평판의 근접 후류에서 상류 경계층의 영향을 조사하기 위한 실험적 연구가 수행되었다. 트리핑 와이어(tripping wire)의 여러 부착 위치가 경계층의 유동조건을 유발시키기 위하여 선택되었다. 평판 앞전에서부터 0.98C 위치에서의 층류, 천이, 난류경계층이 대칭, 비대칭 후류의 발달과정을 조사하기 위하여 부과되었다. X형태의 열선 프로브(55P61)를 이용한 측정은 근접 후류의 8위치에서 수행되었고, 측정된 평균속도분포는 기존의 후류 상사변수로 무차원화 되어 제시되었다. 대칭 후류는 후류의 중앙부분에서 기존의 상사곡선과 일치하지만, 비대칭 후류는 측정된 범위에서 기존의 상사 곡선과 일치하지 않았다.

유동장 수치해석이 포함된 퍼프모델을 이용한 오염물질의 확산 해석 (Pollutant Dispersion Analysis Using the Gaussian Puff Model with the Numerical Flowfield Information)

  • The computations of the flowfield and pollutant dispersion over a flat plate and the Russian hills of various slopes are described. The Gaussian plume and the puff model have been used to calculate concentration of pollutant. The Reynolds-averaged unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equation with low Reynolds κ-ε model has been used to calculate the flowfield. The flow data of a flat plate and the Russian hills from Navier-Stokes equation solutions has been used as the input data for the puff model. The computational results of flowfield agree well with experimental results of both a flat plate and Russian hills. The concentration prediction by the Gaussian plume model and the Gaussian puff model also agrees flirty well with experiments.

활주평판의 조파현상에 관한 수치연구 (Numerical study on wavemaking phenomena generated by a planning flat plate)

  • Numerical study is carried out to make clear the wavemaking phenomena for a planning flat plate. Through the mumerical computations, some schematic wave patterns are compared with experimental results, for example, such as the bow divergent waves, triangle waves, stern divergent saves, stern cross waves. The characteristic distance of waves is found to be more inconsistent as the incidence angle increases. The comparison was mode between computations and experiments for incidence angles of 5, 10 and 15 degrees. However, a numerical difficulty is found around and behined the trailing edges for more than 20 degree.

평판 후류가 원통 표면의 물질전달에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on the effect of flat-plate wake on mass transfer about a cylinder in crossflow)

  • This study presents an experimental investigation of the effect of the wake on mass transfer about a circular cylinder in crossflow. The flat-plate wake was generated by merging two mirror images of turbulent boundary layers that were well developed along the both sides of flat plate with a sharp trailing edge. The velocity field was measured by a hot-wire system and the mass transfer rate by a naphthalene sublimation method. The mixing and developing stages of the wake were addressed to identify flow conditions. The mass transfer effects of different developing stages of the wake was discussed in detail. It is noted that a local maximum appears not at the front stagnation point but at a point a little downstream when the cylinder is located in the nearwake region and much more elevated mass transfer rate is obtained compared to effect of free-stream turbulence.
