  • Purpose: Currently, many chemicals are used in industrial and real life, and many substances are used in the form of a single substance, but most of them are used in the form of a mixture, and there is a need for a criterion for judging the danger of these substances. Method: Therefore, this study aims to confirm the risk criteria of the mixture through experimental studies on flammable mixtures in order to secure the effectiveness of the details of the existing Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act angerous Goods Judgment Criteria and to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of the dangerous goods judgment. Result: Experimental results show that alcohol flash point is mixed with water, which is a non-flammable liquid. Similar flash point trends occurred around 60% on an alcohol basis. In addition, in the case of flammable-combustible mixtures, there was little change in flash point if the flash point difference of the two materials was not large, and if the flash point difference of the two materials was low, the flash point tended to increase with the increase of the high flash point material. Conclusion: In the future, the test results may provide reference data on the experimental criteria for the flammable liquids that are cracked at the fire site.

  • The flash point is one of the most important physical properties used to determine the fire hazard of flammable liquid mixture and defined as the lowest temperature at which a liquid produces sufficient vapor to form a combustible mixture with air. The main purpose of this paper is to measure and predict the flash point of binary flammable miscible mixtures. The flash points for n-hexanol+n-butyric acid and n-butanol+propionic acid, were measured by using Seta-flash closed cup method. The experimentally derived data were correlated with the binary interaction parameters of the van Laar and NRTL equations through the optimization method. The flash points estimated by these correlations were compared with those calculated by the method based on Raoult's law. The optimization method were found to be better than the method based on the Raoult's law.

  • The flash point is one of the most important indicators of the flammabiliy of liquid solutions. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which there is enough concentration of flammable vapor to form an ignitable mixture with air. In this study the flash points of binary flammable solutions, 2-propanol+propionic acid and n-hexanol+formic acid systems, were measured using Seta flash closed cup tester. Particularly n-hexanol+formic acid system exhibited minimum flash point behavior. The measured values were compared with the calculated values using Raoult's law and optimization method. The calculated data by optimization method described the measured values more effectively than those calculated by Raoult's law.

  • Close to high power radio/radar transmitters there is a possibility that sparks may be occur at discontinuities in metallic structures. If these structures are in an area in which a flammable mixture may be present, there is a possibility that a fire or explosion may be caused by the sparking. A number of assessment procedures for quantification of the hazard have been produced. This paper reviews the bases of the British Standard covering ignition hazards by radio-frequency radiation and presents some ignition test apparatus to access these hazards.

  • The flash point are used to classify combustible liquids according to their relative flammability. The regulations for the safe handling, transportation, and storage of such substances are dependent on this classification, and the flash points are therefore of great important in the chemical industry.(omitted)

  • When flammable gases are mixed with air or oxygen in the explosion concentration range and are ignited by sufficiently large electrostatic discharge energy, they may explode causing severe disaster in workplaces. The minimum ignition energy (MIE) of single gas-air mixtures has been already investigated by many researchers, but the MIE of mixtures of more than three substances is not examined yet. The purpose of this study is to investigate the MIE of several three-component gas mixtures experimentally. The result of our experiment shows that the MIE of some gas mixtures is quite different from that we expected based on the characteristics of individual gas-air mixture.

  • The flash point is an important property and hazardous index of a flammable liquid. The flash points are used by virtually all the environmental, health, and safety organizations in both government and industry to classify flammable liquids for safety and transportation regulations. The basics of all flash points behavior are concerned with the vapor pressure and explosive limits. The flash points of pure components and the mixture of solvents can be calculated with the use of the laws of Raoult, Dalton and Le Chatelier. In this paper, experimentally determined lower flash points of a p-xylene and epoxy resin system were compared with the calculated values by using Raoults law. Calculated lower flash points were in reasonable agreement with the observed values.

  • In case of using the electrical apparatus in the hazardous atmosphere which exist flammable gas mixtures, There is a dangerosity of gas explosion accident by the electrical spark. The most general method to prevent the explosion by the spark is to use the flame-proof type electrical apparatus to isolate the ignition source. from the flammable atmosphere. But actualy it is impossible to isolate the ignition sources from the atmosphere. So it was needed to find the safe gap which prevent ignition of flammable atmosphere by transmission of flame or heat when a flammable gas mixture exploded inside the apparatus. In this study we tried to find the maximum experimental safe gap(MESG) of $H_2$-air, and $CH_4$-air mixtures by using the 8 litre spherical vessel with 25mm flange. The experiment parameter were ignition position, concentration and initial pressure before explosion. From the experiment the ignition position was affected to the MESG. MESG value was minimum near the stoichiometric concentration of gas mixtures, and according to the increase of initial pressure MESG was decreased.

  • The flash and fire point are the most important combustible properties used to determine the potential for the fire and explosion hazards of flammable material. The flash point is defined as the lowest temperature at which a flammable liquid gives off sufficient vapor to form an ignitable mixture with air near its surface or within a vessel. The fire point is the temperature of the flammable liquid at which there will be flaming combustion, sustained 5 seconds in response to the pilot flame. In this study, the flash points and fire points were measured to present raw data of the flammable risk assessment for acids, using Pensky-Martens Closed Cup(C.C.) apparatus (ASTM-D93) and Tag Open-cup (O.C.) apparatus(ASTM D 1310-86). The measured fire points were compared with the estimated values based on 1.11 times stoichiometric concentration. The values calculated by the proposed equation were in good agreement with measured values.

  • The autoignition temperatures(AIT) of solvent mixture is important index for the safe handling of flammable liquids which constitute the solvent mixtures. Therefore, the AITs of common pure chemical substances are widely reported, but very limited data are available for mixtures. This study, the toluene and 2-butnaol system which used mixture solution solvent was measured the AIT and ignition delay time by using ASTM E659 apparatus. The AITs of toluene and 2-butanol constituted binary system were $547^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. The experimental AIT of toluene and 2-butanol were a good agreement with the calculated AIT by the proposed equations with a few average absolute deviation(A.A.D.).
