In the study, test was carried out to compare the flame retardant performance for the specimen of MDF wood to which field flame retardant treatment (post processing flame retardant) is applied, which is coated with flame retardant film of 5 companies, locally distributed, and MDF wood (nontreated, flame retardant film non-coated) to which aqueous or oil-based fire-retardant paint is applied. As a result of combustion test of MDF wood which was coated with flame retardant film of 5 companies, 2 products showed suitable values in 4 criteria, but other 3 products showed 10~40 % disqualification rate. In regard of characteristics of fire-retardant paint, oil-based fire-retardant paint is better than aqueous fire-retardant paint in flame retardant performance criteria, but MDF wood to which oilbase fire-retardant paint was applied was shown to have higher toxicity index grade than MDF wood to which aqueous fire-retardant paint was applied relatively.
Interior of the building is used as a MDF plywood if there is a fire in order to delay the ignition, flame retardant paint, flame retardant solution and flame retardant film are being handled by the flame retardant. Combustion characteristics anf flame retardant performance results can be summarized as follows: General film with a sample showed that short of the criteria in terms of carbonation area, and the results of flame retardant paint, flame retardant solution and flame retardant film products satisfied the criteria. Toxic gases generated in the combustion process results in a film samples using a high incidence of carbon monoxide and the creation of a smoke could be seen. This confirm that is estimated that result from incomplete combustion of PVC film that attach, and displays high toxicity index and hazard class relatively.
The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the flame retardant performance of Japanese cypress(Chamaecyparis obtusa) plywood, commonly used in indoor decoration, furniture, and tableware, by treating it with three different fire retardants with different primary ingredients. The experiment was conducted in compliance with Article 31, Paragraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Fire Facilities Installation and Management Act and Articles 4 and 7-2 of the Flame Retardant Performance Standards. After flame time, after glow time, char length, and char area were measured. As a result, first, after flame time was measured at 0 seconds regardless of whether the flame retardant treatment was applied. Second, after glow time was relatively long, measuring 22.7 seconds without treatment, which is likely due to the weak fire resistance and high concentration of carbon monoxide generated by the chemical characteristics of the Japanese cypress itself. Third, it was confirmed that the effects of the primary ingredient, phosphorus, in the flame retardant treatment varied depending on the technological development of the manufacturers of the same species of Japanese cypress plywood. In the future, it is expected that the results of this study will provide fundamental data to select flame retardant treatments that show high flame retardant performance according to the botanical characteristics of the wood.

Environmental-friendly nontocxic flame retardant paint which can overcomes the restriction of harmful materials for human body and environments such as Pb, Hg, Cd, $C^{+6}$, PBB/PBDE by EU and domestic Ministry of Environment was developed. Developed paint is the water-soluble organic inorganic hybrid material that VOC(volatility organic compound) discharge is low, and that human riskiness and environmental pollution is minimized not using the kinds of halogen materials. $Mg(OH)_2$, $Sb_{2}O_{3}$, and Zinc borate were used as flame retardant materials, 2% Micell and water were used as binder and solvent, respectively. Results showed the optimum activity was obtained when the ratio of those frame retardant agents($Mg(OH)_2$, $Sb_{2}O_{3}$, Zinc borate made by 1: 2: 2), binder(2% Micell) and water was 1: 0.5: 0.5.
The earlier studies on the fire resistance performance of woods used as building materials have focused on confirming combustion characteristics of fire retardant or flame resistant treated wood. In this paper, to confirm internal temperature changes closely related to pyrolysis of woods exposed to the flame, heating experiments were conducted in a heating furnace according to the standard heating temperature curves after Douglas-fir, which is widely used as structural materials, was treated with a flame resistant solution and flame retardant paint. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the thermal diffusion inside the wood has decreased when the wood was treated with the flame resistant solution. However, in high temperature, the flame resistant effect could not be expected due to the peeling of the coating in the case of the flame resistant paint treated wood. Therefore, it can be considered that it is more effective to use the flame resistant solution which penetrates in to the inside of the wood than flame resistant paint which forms the coating on the surface of the wood in order to enhance the flame resistance effect on the thick wood.

To prevent the flame spread in FRP vessel in fire, the engine-room of the vessel should be constructed additionally with laminated fire-retardant resin over 3 times or equivalent insulation materials to former according to the relevant standard for FRP vessel structure. It is surveyed that insulation materials called 'Gel coat' are widely used in FRP fishing vessel, however, test method and its criteria for Gel coat are not clearly establish and have not been evaluated yet, while test method and criteria for fire-retardant resin and fire-retardant polyurethane composite are described in test standard for type-approval. In this study, 3 fire-retardant resins, 4 gel coats, 1 flame-retardant paint and 1 polyurethane composite were selected based on the survey and were evaluated according to both IMO FTP Code part 5 and flame-retardant test. When comparing based on CFE values from flame-spread test, average value for 4 gel coats were lower than that of 3 fire-retardant resins. As for flame-retardant test, there were no significant differences between fire-retardant resin and gel coat, based on charred area.
This study presents a treatment of suitable flame retardant through evaluating fire performance after treating flame retardant of fibers for development of welding blanket. The experimental samples used were commercial fibers and we are treated fibers with the flame retardant liquid and the flame retardant paint. The fire performance of the sample was carried out according to the Korea and Japan Standard. As the results of the fire performance experiment, the treated fiber in samples had enough in the performance of flame and fire retardant and the grade of their was from grade A to grade C according to flame and fire retardant standard. The lower oxygen index indicated that all treated samples with the resist are satisfied with international standard. We con-sider that the welding blanket treated with grade A, B and C performance prevents fire spread regardless of the height of work stairs in the case of installation horizontally. Also, it is considered that the welding blanket treated with grade C performance prevents fire spread regardless of the height of work stairs in the case of installation vertically.

Wood is a construction material that has the advantages of carbon dioxide storage ability, noise reflection, and eco-friendliness. In order to use wood for a long time, you must use wood-specific paint, which is called oil stain. Oil stain improves water resistance and moisture resistance, but has the disadvantage of being weak against fire. This is because the oil contained in the oil stain causes a chemical reaction, and this chemical reaction causes the oil stain to spontaneously ignite, igniting nearby combustible materials and causing frequent fires. To improve this, in this study, different flame retardants were mixed and added to oil stain to produce functional oil stain. In addition, we would like to apply it to wood to check glow time and carbonization area. As a result of the experiment, it shows the best performance when mixed at 30(15 + 15)(%) and added to oil stain. The remaining burn time is satisfied from 10% for all samples, and the carbonized area is satisfied when it is 30%.

Korean wooden cultural heritages are treated by flame retardants to protect fire hazards. Two types of flame retardants are used to treat wooden cultural heritage. These flame retardants cause some problems such as surface whitening, discoloration, and cracks due to the chemical reaction caused by Korean traditional wood painting (Dancheong), flame retardant and wood humidity. The Korean government is trying to cut down on the amount of flame retardants for the wooden cultural heritage because of these problems. This study was carried out to find the cause of whitening by flame retardants treatment. The reaction between pigment and flame retardant chemicals was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy.

Fire tests were conducted on cables using fire-retardant paint employed in nuclear power plants that transmit electrical power, control and instrument signals. The failure criteria of various power and control cables coated with fire retardant coating at three different coating thicknesses (~0.5 mm, 1.0 mm & 1.5 mm) were studied under direct flame test using Container Fire Test Facility (CFTF) based on standard tests for bare cables. A direct flame fire test was conducted for 10 min with an LPG ribbon burner rated at ten by fixing the cable samples in a vertical cable track. Inner sheath temperature was measured until ambient conditions were achieved by natural convection. The cables are visually evaluated for damage and the mass loss percentage. Cable functionality is ascertained by checking for electrical continuity for each sample. The thickness of cable coating on fire exposure is also studied by comparing the transient variation of inner sheath temperature along the Cable length. This study also evaluated the adequacy of fire-retardant coating on cables used for safety-critical equipment in nuclear power plants.
