정적 예혼합 프로판 화염의 매연생성에 미치는 난류연소 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Turbulent Combustion upon Soot Formation in Premixed Constant-Volume Propane Flames)

  • The soot yield is studied by a premixed propane-oxygen-inert gas combustion in a specially designed disk-type constant-volume combustion chamber to investigate the effect of turbulence on soot formation. Premixtures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of chamber at 45 degree intervals in order to observe the soot formation under high pressures and high temperatures. The eight flames converged compress the end gases to a high pressure. The laser schlieren and direct flame photographs for observation field with 10 mm in diameter are taken to examine into the behaviors of flame front and gas flow in laminar and turbulent combustion. The soot volume fraction in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by the in situ laser extinction technique and simultaneously the corresponding burnt gas temperature by the two-color pyrometry method. It is found that the soot yield of turbulent combustion decreases in comparison with that of laminar combustion because the burnt gas temperature increases with the drop of heat loss.

  • A heat-flux meter has been designed and manufactured to measure the heat flux from the flame. A calibration method of the heat-flux meter by a calibration furnace has also been proposed. The k-type (Chromel-Alumel) thermocouple material has been used as the material for the beat-flux meter. The electormotive force (e.m.f.) from the K-type thermocouple is shown to be linearly proportional to the heat flux absorbed. The characteristics of the heat-flux meter become better as the radius of heat absorbing disk becomes larger and its thickness thinner.

The pressure and temperature during soot formation are changed by varying the initial charge pressure and the volume fraction of inert gas compositions, respectively. It is found that the soot yield increases with dropping temperature and rising pressure at constant equivalence ratio, and that the soot yield of turbulent combustion decreases in comparison with that of laminar combustion because the burnt gas temperature increases with the drop of heat loss.

  • Analytical solutions for the transient temperature distribution and quasi-static thermal stresses which arise in a thin circular disk of finite radius subjected to an instantaneous point source acting in its interior have been obtained. And the solutions have been extended to the case of a moving heat source with the aid of the Duhamel's superposition integral. The solutions given are in the form of double infinite serieses, and their numerical results have been compared with the experimental temperature histories. It can be found out that the theoretical histories of thermal stresses show a good agreement with the experimental results and the theoretical histories of thermal stresses show a good qualitative agreement with a physical phenomena. The solutions can be applied to the problems such as a flame hardening of the cylindrical machine elements and a circular patch welding or a circular cutting of the structural member.

아크릴산 제조공정 사고사례를 통한 소각 시스템의 안전성 향상 방안 (A Study on the Safety Improvement in Incineration System from the Case Study of Acrylic acid manufacturing process Accident)

  • 최근 대기환경규제의 강화로 화학공장에서 발생하는 폐가스를 소각 처리하는 경우가 증대되고 있다. 이러한 소각설비는 저장탱크 상부와 배관을 통해 연결되어 화염을 통하여 폐가스를 연소 소각시키기 때문에, 배관을 따라 화염이 역화될 경우에는 치명적인 사고로 연결될 수 있다. 본 연구는 아크릴산 제조공정의 소각시스템에서 발생한 중대산업사고에 대해 폭발의 3요소와 화염의 전파 원인을 분석하여 사고 예방대책 및 안전성 향상 방안을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 첫째, 소각시스템의 송풍기를 재 가동하기 전에는 공기 또는 불활성 가스로 충분히 희석하여 폭발을 예방하여야 한다. 둘째, 폭굉으로 전이된 화염이 저장탱크로 전파되지 않도록 소각설비의 전단 및 저장탱크 상부에 폭굉용 화염방지기를 설치하는 것이 필요하다. 섯째, 폭연용 화염방지기를 그대로 사용할 경우에는 그 전단에 파열판을 설치하거나 저장탱크 상부와 소각설비의 배관을 후드식으로 연결하여 폭굉으로 전이된 화염을 저장탱크 밖으로 분출시켜야 한다. 마지막으로, 소각설비에 연결된 송풍기의 제어반(MCC)에 순간정전 보상장치인 시간지연계전기(TDR: time delay relay)등을 설치하여 순간정전 후에도 자동으로 재가동될 수 있도록 조치해야 한다.

The changes of pressure and temperature during soot formation are controlled by varying the initial charging pressure and the volume fraction of inert gas compositions, respectively. It is found that the soot yield increases with dropping the temperature and raising the pressure at a constant equivalence ratio, and the soot yield in turbulent combustion decreases as compared with that in laminar combustion because the burnt gas temperature increases with the drop of heat loss for laminar combustion.

미세 매연입자의 응집을 위한 초음파장의 적용 (Application of Ultrasonic for agglomeration of fine soot particles)

  • Ultrasonic field of 28kHz with sound pressure level 162dB has been employed to agglomerate the fine soot particle produces in a diffusion flame in a chamber. The agglomeration process has been investigated with digital camcorder and analysed in terms of the decrease of number density with exposure time. From the observation of agglomeration process, the initial agglomeration has been carried out during the short time, and it has been dominated by the orthokinetic collision. Thereafter, a slower agglomeration mechanism, driven by acoustic streaming in the chamber takes over and agglomeraters grew to diameters of several millimeters were levitated at the pressure node of the acoustic wave. And, the circular disk shape of large agglomeraters with the rotational and translational motion is observed.

  • In this numerical experiment, the preconditioned compressible Navier-Stokes equation is tested to analyze the laminar spray combustion. Sprayed flow field is formulated by Eulerian-Lagrangian system for the gas and liquid phases each. DSF(Deterministic Separated Flow) model was adopted for the sprays with the vortex model to describe transients of individual droplet heating. Simplified single global reaction model approximates methanol-air reaction with and without disk flame holder. The equation system is discretized by finite difference technique and time integrated by LU-SGS. Due to greatly simplified chemical reaction mechanism and the lack of experimental evidences, most of the efforts were devoted to show the applicability and robustness of preconditioned compressible flow calculation algorithm. Computation results in qualitatively reasonable combusting flow field, hence it is believed that further refinement are required to produce quantitatively accurate solutions.

  • Growing concerns regarding air pollution have recently increased the demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled ships. LNG-fueled ships are equipped with an explosion relief valve in the crankcase to relieve excessive pressure and stop flames from emitting from the crankcase. In this study, a finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the crankcase relief valve disk spring design using an ANSYS Workbench, v.15. The setting pressure, leak and explosion test performed by european standard EN14797 to evaluate function and mechanical integrity of crankcase relief valve. The tests results indicate that the pressure of the crankcase relief valve is 3.05 bar, with no air leakage at 2.97 bar. Finally, the mechanical integrity of the crankcase relief valve was confirmed through an explosion test in which the valve plate assembly, flame arrester, and other parts were safe from fracturing.

  • The effects of equivalence ratio and pressure on burnt gas temperature in premixed fuel rich propane-oxygen-inert gas combustion are investigated over the wide ranges of equivalence ration from 1.5 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 7 MPa by using a specially designed disk -type constant-voume combustion chamber, The premixtures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of combustion chamber with 45 degree interals. The eight converging flames compress the end gases to high pressures. The burnt gas temperature is meausured by the nmodifie dtow-colr pyrometry method. The transmissivity in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the hightest pressure is meausred by in situ laser extinction method. It is found that a temperature difference between the burnt gas temperature measured by mofidied and conventrational two-color method is 10 to 20 K, but the accuracy of the modified two-color methdo is higher if the local transmissivity in observed region is uniform , and the combustion at higher pressures results gas density conditions and the burnt gas temperature increases as the volume fraction of argon is increased because the specific heat of argon is lower compared to that of nitrogen with a constant equivalence ratio.
