The Research of Reducing the Fixed Codebook Search Time of G.723.1 MP-MLQ (G.733.1 MP-MLQ 고정 코드북 검색 시간 단축에 관한 연구)

  • In general CELP type vocoders provide good speech quality around 4.8kbps. Among them, G.723.1 developed for Internet Phone and videoconferencing includes two vocoders, 5.3kbps ACELP and 6.3kbps MO-MLQ. Since 6.3kbps MP-MLQ requires large amount of computation for fixed codebook search, it is difficult to realize real time processing. In order to improve the problem this paper proposes the new method that reduces the processing time up to about 50% of codebook search time. We first decide the grid bit, then search the codebook. Grid bit is selected by comparison between synthetic speech, which is synthesized with only odd or even pulses of target vector. and DC removed original speech. As a result, we reduced the total processing time of G.723.1 MP-MLQ up to about 26.08%. In objective quality test 11.19㏈ of segSNR was obtained, and in subjective quality test there was almost no speech degradation.

Mechanism for Efficient Use of Server's Resource on the Web

  • HTTP/1.1 standard reduces latencies and overhead from closing and re-establishing connections by supporting persistent connections as a default, which encourage multiple transfers of objects over one connection. HTTP/1.1, however, does not define explicitly connection-closing time but specifies a certain fixed holding time model. This model may induce wasting server's resource when server maintains conn ection with the idle-state client that requests no data for a certain time. This paper proposes the mechanism of a heuristic connection management supported by the client-side under persistent HTTP, in addition to HTTP/1.1's fixed holding time model on server-side. The client exploits the tag information within transferred HTML page so that decides connection-closing time. As a result, the mechanism allows server to use server's resource more efficiently without server's efforts.

Study on Adsoption Characteristics of Tharonil on Activated Carbon Fixed Bed (활성탄 고정층에 대한 Tharonil의 흡착특성에 관한 연구)

  • To obtain the breakthrough characteristics for the design of fixed bed adsorption plant, adsorption experiment on granular activated carbon was performed with tharonil in the fixed bed. The pore diffusivity and surface diffusivity of tharonil estimated by the concentration-time curve and adsorption isotherm were $D_s=2.825{\times}10^{-9}cm^2/s,\;D_p=1.26{\times}10^{-5}cm^2/s$, respectively. From comparison of the pore diffusivity and surface diffusivity, it was found that surface diffusion was controlling step for intrapaticle diffusion. The breakthrough curve predicted by constant pattern-linear driving force model were shown to agree with the experimental results. The surface diffusivity and film mass transfer coefficient had no effect on the theoretical breakthrough curve but the adsorption isotherm had fairly influence on it. Appearance time of breakthrough curve is faster with the increase flow rate and inflow concentration of liquid. The utility of granular activated carbon is enhanced with the increase of bed height and with the decrease of inflow rate.

The Effect of Visual Feedback Bicycle Training on Maximal Oxygen Uptake, Quadriceps Muscle Strength, and Running Performance in Healthy Young Adults

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of visual feedback bicycle training on running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: Fifteen healthy adult men with no musculoskeletal or nervous system disease and capable of bicycle training were included. After the pretest, subjects were randomly assigned to visual feedback bicycle training group and general fixed bicycle training group. Both groups were trained two times a week for three weeks, each week for a fixed time and number of repetitions, followed by a six week washout period and then crossing the training method. visual feedback bicycle training provides visual feedback of heart rate in real time using a monitor and a heart rate meter during bicycle training, and general fixed bicycle training performed general bicycle training without visual feedback. After training, each item was measured using a wearable technology, gas analyzer, isokinetic equipment. Results: The results of this study was significant differences in running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength in visual feedback bicycle training group (p<0.05). The differential effect was found between visual feedback bicycle training group and general fixed bicycle training group in running performance, maximal oxygen uptake, and quadriceps muscle strength (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study suggested that that visual feedback bicycle training can be applied as a useful training method to improve running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength.

Improvement of Multilateration using Vector Prediction Algorithm and Kalman Filter (벡터 예측 알고리즘과 칼만 필터를 이용한 다변측량법 개선)

  • Multilateration that consists of three or more fixed nodes has been widely used in the field of indoor real time location system(RTLS). However, when one or two among fixed nodes are partially out of communication reachability due to obstruction and unstable node, it is difficult to obtain an efficient location information. In order to improve the challenges of poor ranging measurements and fluctuations in these environment, this paper presents, based on TOF(Time of Flight), a new algorithm which can reduce the inherent ranging measurements errors in the conventional multilateration using a vector prediction algorithm for the displacement estimation of mobile node and Kalman filter for an efficient distance average. Even if a person moves with mobile node and then it fails ranging measurement from some of fixed nodes, the proposed algorithm using a present and previous measurement value can predict the distance between mobile node and fixed node which fails ranging measurement. The experimental results are shown that the proposed system improves the localization accuracy and efficiency compared with conventional method, respectively.

A Soft Aperiodic Real-Time Task Scheduling Algorithm Supporting Maximum Slack Time (최대여유시간 제공 연성 비주기 실시간 태스크 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • The purpose of this paper is to minimize the a slack computation time of the scheduling of a soft aperiodic real-time tasks in a fixed priority real-time system. The proposed algorithm reduces the computation overhead at on-line time and supports the maximum slack time assigned for aperiodic real-time tasks. The proposed algorithm has 10~20% more response time for aperiodic real-time tasks than that of Slack Stealing Algorithm that offers optimal response time in fixed priority real-time system. However, the performance of the proposed algorithm is seven times better in a scheduling overhead.

  • Energy consumption has become an increasingly important consideration in designing real-time embedded systems. In this paper, we propose a voltage scaling method to reduce energy consumption in fixed priority real-time systems using variable voltage processors. The Hyperperiod of tasks is divided into dimains. The most suitable voltage of each domain is determined off-line and stored in a table. During task execution, the voltage of processor is adjusted according to the information of the table. A simulation result shows that the proposed method can reduce 80% of power consumption in comparison to no power management. The difference to the optimal EDF based method is only 5%.

  • As a result of increasing environmental concern, the penetration of renewable power on power systems is now increasing. Wind energy can be considered as the most economical energy sources to generate electricity without depletion of fossil fuel. To devise adequate control strategies for wind farms, time domain simulation analysis needs to be performed. This paper presents a time domain simulation method for wind farms with fixed speed wind turbines (FSWT) connected to the external power systems. In this paper, an example of time simulation of the wind farm with four FSWT.

  • This paper describes the issues associated with the real-time implementation of G.723.1A dual-rate speech coder on a TMS320VC5402 DSP. Firstly, the main features of the G.723.1A speech coder and the procedure involved in the implementation using assembly and C languages are discussed. Various real-time implementation issues such as memory/MIPS tradeoffs are also presented. For fixed-point implementation, we converted the ITU-T fixed-point ANSI C code into TMS320VC5402 code in the bit-exact way through verification using the test vectors. Finally, as the result of implementation, we present the MIPS and memory requirement for the real-time operation.

  • In this paper, we suggest a variable structure controller using the time-varying nonlinear sliding surface instead of the fixed sliding surface, which has been the robustness against parameter variations and extraneous disturbance during the reaching phase. As appling TS fuzzy algorithm to the regulation of the nonlinear sliding surface, the reaching time of the system trajectory is faster than the fixed method . This proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional method in reaching time parameter variation and extraneous disturbance. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to a rotational inverted pendulum.
