A Switching Method of Single Phase Grid Connected Inverter for Common Mode Noise Reduction (계통연계형 단상인버터의 Common Mode Noise 저감을 위한 Switching 방법)

  • A pulse-width modulation (PWM) method for common mode noise reduction in a PWM inverter connected to a single-phase grid is proposed in this study. The extensively used conventional switching method may experience common mode voltage problems, which generate current leakage and electromagnetic induction problems. In the proposed switching method, the neutral point of the output voltage is always fixed at both ends of the input voltage to reduce common mode noise. The validity of the proposed method is proven through simulation and experimental results.

  • This work presents modelling and simulation of a readout integrated circuit (ROIC) design considering pair-wise serial configuration along with thermal modeling of an uncooled microbolometer array. A fully differential approach is used at the input stage in order to reduce fixed pattern noise due to the process variation and self-heating-related issues. Each pair of microbolometers is pulse-biased such that they both fall under the same self-heating point along the self-heating trend line. A ${\pm}10%$ process variation is considered. The proposed design is simulated with a reference input image consisting of an array of $127{\times}92$ pixels. This configuration uses only one unity gain differential amplifier along with a single 14-bit analog-to-digital converter in order to minimize the dynamic range requirement of the ROIC.

Microcontroller-Based Improved Predictive Current Controlled VSI for Single-Phase Grid-Connected Systems

  • Predictive current control offers the potential for achieving more precise current control with a minimum of distortion and harmonic noise. However, the predictive method is difficult to implement and has a greater computational burden. This paper introduces a theoretical analysis and experimental verification for an improved predictive current control technique applied to single phase grid connected voltage source inverters (VSI). The proposed technique has simple calculations. An ATmega1280 microcontroller board is used to implement the proposed technique for a simpler and cheaper control system. To enhance the current performance and to obtain a minimum of current THD, an improved tri-level PWM switching strategy is proposed. The proposed switching strategy uses six operation modes instead of four as in the traditional strategy. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the system performance with the improved switching strategy and its effect on current performance. The presented experimental results verify that the proposed technique can be implemented using fixed point 8-bit microcontroller to obtain excellent results.

  • The effect of vortex impingement on the fluid dynamics around a cylinder submerged in the wake of another of different diameters is numerically investigated at a Reynolds number Re = 200. While the diameter (D) of the downstream cylinder is fixed, impinging vortices are produced from the upstream cylinder diameter (d) varied as d/D = 0.24, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0, with a spacing ratio L=5.5d, where L is the distance between the center of the upstream cylinder to the front stagnation point of the downstream cylinder. Two-dimensional simulations are carried out using the finite volume method. Fluid forces acting on the two cylinders are correlated with impinging vortices, vortex shedding, and wake structure. Different facets of wake formation, wake structure, and flow separation and their connections to fluid forces are discussed.

  • In this paper, a real-time pitch detector LPC vocoder as implemented on a high speed digital signal processor, NEC 7720, is described. The pitch detector was based mainly on the SIFT algorithm. The SIFT pitch detector consists primarily of a digital low pass filter, inverse filter, computation of autocorrelation, a peak picker, interpolation, V/UV defcision and a final pitch smoother. In our approach, modification, mainly on the V/UV decision and a final pitch smoother, was made to estimate more accurate pitches. An 16-bit fixed-point aithmatic was employed for all necessary computation and the simulated results were compared with the eye detected pitches obtained from real speech data. The pitch detector occupies 98.8% of the instruction ROM, 37% of the data ROM, and 94% of internal RAM and takes 15.2ms to estimate a pitch when an analysis frame is consisted of 128 sampled speech data. It is observed that the tested results were well agreed with the computer simulation results.

  • In this study, to improve the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle whose hard points have been already fixed, a tuning method of load spring, damper and stabilizer bar is described. For the suspension system of vehicle, optimized design is necessary to satisfy the incompatible two dynamic characteristics which are the ride isolation property between unsprung mass and sprung mass to reduce the excitation from the road and the accurate correring response property to specific steering inputs. To accomplish above aims, we may approach by experimental method, but it requires to sacrifice much time and cost. This paper, therefore, provides a process of suspension development to improve the ride and handling properties by using computer simulation with saving time and cost, and as results, comparaes the dynamic characteristics of the tuned vehicle with the base vehicle not tuned.

  • Many implantable hearing aids are being developed as alternatives to conventional hearing aids which has inconveniences for use and social stigma that make hearing-impaired people avoid to wear it. Particularly, the fully-implantable middle ear hearing devices (F-IMEHD) are being actively studied for mixed or sensorineural hearing impaired people. In development of F-IMEHD, the most difficult problem is improving the performance of implantable microphone. Recently, Cho et al. have studied the tympanic membrane installed microphone which has better sensitivity and is easier to operate on patient than the microphone implanted under the skin. But, it may cause howling problem due to the feedback signal via oval window and ossicle chain from the transducer on round window in the middle ear cavity, therefore, a feedback canceller is necessary. In this paper, we designed NLMS (normalized least mean square) adaptive feedback canceller for F-IMEHD with tympanic membrane installed microphone and a transducer implemented at round window, and computer simulation was performed to verify its operation. The designed adaptive feedback canceller has a delay filter, a 64 point FIR fixed filter and a 8-tap adaptive FIR filter. Computer simulation of the feedback path is modeled by using the data obtained through human cadaver experiment.

  • This paper presents design of the quantitative feedback control system of the three axes hydraulic road simulator with respect to the dummy wheel for uncertain multiple input-output(MIMO) feedback systems. This simulator has the uncertain parameters such as fluid compressibility, fluid leakage, electrical servo components and nonlinear mechanical connections. This works have reproduced the random input signal to implement the real road vibration's data in the lab. The replaced $m^2$ MISO equivalent control systems satisfied the design specifications of the original $m^*m$ MIMO control system and developed the mathematical method using quantitative feedback theory based on schauder's fixed point theorem. This control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) having the minimum bandwidth for parameters of uncertain plant. The efficacy of the designed controller is verified through the dynamic simulation with combined hydraulic model and Adams simulator model. The Matlab simulation results to connect with Adams simulator model show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The designed control system has satisfied robust performance with stability bounds, tracking bounds and disturbance.   • The objective of this paper is to develop computer programs to aid in the design and analysis of control systems in which nonlinear characteristics exist. Control systems are dynamic systems, which can be described using various mathematical models. A convenient model for digital computer simulation is the state model in which described using a set of linear and non linear first order differential equations. The digital simulation was performed on a IBM PC/XT personal computer, and the computer language was BASIC. There are four possible configurations from which a user may choose. When running a program, the user is asked to enter the system parameters according to a specified control system configurations are; 1. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant in a feedback configurations(NLSVF1). 2. A control system with a nonlinear device situated between two plants in a feedback configurations(NLSVF2). 3. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant, followed by a the dealy in feedback configurations(TLAG). 4. A motor and load with a backlash nonlinearity between dynamic portions of the motor/load configurations (BACKLASH). The matrix from state equations are integrated using combination the trapezoidal method and fixed point iteration. Several cases which have nonlinearity were implemented on the computer and the results were discussed.

A New Block Matching Motion Estimation using Predicted Direction Search Algorithm (예측 방향성 탐색 알고리즘을 이용한 새로운 블록 정합 움직임 추정 방식)

  • This paper introduces a new technique for block is matching motion estimation. Since the temporal correlation of the image sequence, the motion vector of a block is highly related to the motion vector of the same coordinate block in the previous image frame. If we can obtain useful and enough information from the motion vector of the same coordinate block of the previous frame, the total number of search points used to find the motion vector of the current block may be reduced significantly. Using that idea, an efficient predicted direction search algorithm (PDSA) for block matching algorithm is proposed. Based on the direction of the blocks of the two successive previous frames, if the direction of the to successive blocks is same, the first search point of the proposed PDSA is moved two pixels to the direction of the block. The searching process after moving the first search point is processed according to the fixed search patterns. Otherwise, full search is performed with search area $\pm$2. Simulation results show that PSNR values are improved up to the 3.4dB as depend on the image sequences and improved about 1.5dB on an average. Search times are reduced about 20% than the other fast search algorithms. Simulation results also show that the performance of the PDSA scheme gives better subjective picture quality than the other fast search algorithms and is closer to that of the FS(Full Search) algorithm.
