  • The existing ULTC operation control strategy based on the measured data deteriorates the voltage compensation capability making the efficient corresponding to the load variation difficult by following the fixed load center point voltage. Accordingly, this paper proposes a new on-line fuzzy ULTC controller based on the designed multiple load center points which can improve the voltage compensation capability of ULTC and minimize voltage deviation by moving in real-time the load center point according to the load variation to an adequate position among the multiple load center points designed using the clustering technique. The Max-Min distance technique is adopted as the clustering technique for the decision of multiple load points from measured MTr load current and PTr voltage, and the minimum distance classifier is adopted for the decision of fuzzy output membership function. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, Visual C++ MFC-based simulation environments is developed. Finally, the superiority the proposed strategy is proved by comparing the fuzzy ULTC operation control results based on multiple load center points with the existing ULTC operation control results based on fixed load center point using the data for three day.

  • Kernel type estimations of discontinuity point at an unknown location in regression function or its derivatives have been developed. It is known that the discontinuity point estimator based on $Gasser-M\ddot{u}ller$ regression estimator with a one-sided kernel function which has a zero value at the point 0 makes a poor asymptotic behavior. Further, the asymptotic variance of $Gasser-M\ddot{u}ller$ regression estimator in the random design case is 1.5 times larger that the one in the corresponding fixed design case, while those two are identical for the local polynomial regression estimator. Although $Gasser-M\ddot{u}ller$ regression estimator with a one-sided kernel function which has a non-zero value at the point 0 for the modification is used, computer simulation show that this phenomenon is also appeared in the discontinuity point estimation.

  • This paper presents a price-based quality-of-service (QoS) control framework for two-class network services, in which circuit-switched and packet-switched services are defined as "premium service class" and "best-effort service class," respectively. Given the service model, a customer may decide to use the other class as a perfect or an imperfect substitute when he or she perceives the higher utility of the class. Given the framework, fixed-point problems are solved numerically to investigate how static pricing can be used to control the demand and the QoS of each class. The rationale behind this is as follows: For a network service provider to determine the optimal prices that maximize its total revenue, the interactions between the QoS-dependent demand and the demand-dependent QoS should be thoroughly analyzed. To test the robustness of the proposed model, simulations were performed with gradually increasing customer demands or network workloads. The simulation results show that even with substantial demands or workloads, self-adjustment mechanism of the model works and it is feasible to obtain fixed points in equilibrium. This paper also presents a numerical example of guaranteeing the QoS statistically in the short term-that is, through the implementation of pricing strategies.

  • In this paper, we study the coexistence of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based systems beyond 3G (B3G) and point-to-point (P-P) fixed service (FS) microwave systems. The advanced general analytical model derived via a power spectral density (PSD) analysis proposed in this paper has two advantages in comparison with the conventional minimum coupling loss (MCL) method. First, the interfering signal power that appears in the band of a victim system can be easily assessed without a spectrum emission mask. Second, when transmit power is not allocated to some subcarriers overlapping the band of the victim system in order to mitigate B3G OFDM-based systems interference with other systems, the general analytical model can successfully assess the interference from the B3G systems into FS systems, whereas the MCL method incorporating the spectrum emission mask cannot be applied in the presence of the same interference condition. The proposed model can be derived in a closed form and is simply implemented with the help of simulation, and thus the solution can be obtained in significantly reduced time. Through application of the proposed model, coexistence results are analyzed in a co-channel and adjacent channel with respect to guard band and minimum separation distance.

  • This paper deals with procedures and results for teal time implementation of G.729 speech coder and channel coder including convolution codec, viterbi decoder, and interleaver using a fixed point DSP chip for radio communication systems. We described the method for real-time implementation based on integer simulation results and explained the implemented results by quality performance and required complexity for real-time operation. The required complexity was 24MIPS and 9MIPS in computational load, and 12K words and 4K words in execution code length for speech and channel. The functional evaluation was performed into two steps. The one was bit exact comparison with a fixed point C code, the other was executed by actual speech samples and error test vectors. Unlik other results such as individual implementation, We implemented speech and channel coders on a DSP chip with 160MIPS computation capability and 64 K words memory on chip. This results outweigh the conventional methods in the point of system complexity and implementation cost for radio communication system.

  • An analysis of hardware design conditions of moving object detection (MOD) algorithm is described, which is based on effective Gaussian mixture learning (EGML). A simulation model of EGML algorithm is implemented using OpenCV, and the effects of some parameter values on background learning time and MOD sensitivity are analyzed for various images. In addition, optimal design conditions for hardware implementation of EGML-based MOD algorithm are extracted from fixed-point simulations for various bit-widths of parameters. The proposed fixed-point model of the EGML-based MOD uses only half of the bit-width at the expense of the loss of MOD performance within 0.5% when compared with floating-point MOD results.

  • This study presents a numerical simulation investigating hydrodynamic characteristics of high-temperature hydrocarbon aviation fuel injected through a plain orifice injector. The analysis encompassed the temperature range up to the critical point, and the obtained results were compared with prior experimental observations. The analysis unveiled that the injector's exit pressure remains equivalent to the ambient pressure when the fuel injection temperature is below the boiling point. However, when the fuel temperature surpasses the boiling point, the exit pressure of the injector transitions to the saturated vapor pressure corresponding to the fuel injection temperature. Consequently, the exit pressure of the injector increases in tandem with the rapid increase of the saturation vapor pressure due to escalating fuel temperatures. This rise in the exit pressure necessitates a proportional increase in fuel injection pressure to ensure a fixed fuel mass flow rate. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the discharge coefficient obtained by applying the exit pressure instead of the ambient pressure did exhibit no decrease, but rather was maintained at a nearly constant value, comparable to its level below the boiling point.

  • A nonlinear Finite Element (FE) algorithm is proposed to analyze the Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns subjected to Cyclic Loading (CL), Cyclic Oriented Lateral Force and Axial Loading (COLFAL), Monotonic Loading (ML) or Oriented Pushover Force and Axial Loading (OPFAL) in any direction. In the proposed algorithm, the following parameters are considered: uniaxial behavior of concrete and steel elements, the pseudo-plastic hinge produced in the critical sections, and global behavior of RC columns. In the proposed numerical simulation, the column is discretized into two Macro-Elements (ME) located between the pseudo-plastic hinges at critical sections and the inflection point. The critical sections are discretized into Fixed Rectangular Finite Elements (FRFE) in general cases of CL, COLFAL or ML and are discretized into Variable Oblique Finite Elements (VOFE) in the particular cases of ML or OPFAL. For pushover particular case, a fairly fast converging and properly accurate nonlinear simulation method is proposed to assess the behavior of RC columns. The proposed algorithm has been validated by the results of tests carried out on full-scale RC columns.

  • This paper describes an analysis of the decoding performance and decoding convergence speed of layered LDPC(low-density parity-check) decoder for mobile WiMAX system, and the optimal design conditions for hardware implementation are searched. A fixed-point model of LDPC decoder, which is based on the min-sum algorithm and layered decoding scheme, is implemented and simulated using Matlab model. Through fixed-point simulations for the block lengths of 576, 1440, 2304 bits and the code rates of 1/2, 2/3A, 2/3B, 3/4A, 3/4B, 5/6 specified in the IEEE 802.16e standard, the effect of internal bit-width, block length and code rate on the decoding performance are analyzed. Simulation results show that fixed-point bit-width larger than 8 bits with integer part of 5 bits should be used for acceptable decoding performance.

  • In recent years has been an increasing interest with respect to using the discrete cosine transform(DCT) of which performance is found close to that of the Karhumen-Loeve transform, known to be optimal in the area of digital image processing for tha purpose of the image data compression. Among most of reported algorithms aimed at lowering the coputation complexity. Chen's algorithm is is found to be most popular, Recently, Lee proposed a now algorithm of which the computational complexity is lower than that of Chen's. but its performance is significantly degraded by FWL(Finite-Word-Lenght) effects as a result of employinga a fixed-poing arithmetic. In this paper performance evaluation of these two algorithms and error analysis of FWL effect are described. Also a scaling technique which we call Up & Down-scaling is proposed to allevaiate a performance degradation due to fixed-point arithmetic. When the 16x16point 2DCT is applied on image data and a 16-bit fixed-point arithmetic is employed, both the analysis and simulation show that is colse to that of Chen's.
