Study on Technologies of Mobile Communication based Train Control and its Radio Communication Requirements (이동통신기반 열차제어 기술과 무선통신 요구사항 연구)

  • The mobile communication based train control is the train control system by utilizing wireless communication rather than conventional wired communication. Traditional train control operates train occupation, safety integrity and moving authority using fixed block wired railway signal system. Since introduction of mobile communication in railway area, railway operators can provide improved passager services. Futhermore, it can replace inefficient train onboard equipments and railway ground facilities for economic benefits. In this paper we introduce mobile communication based railway system currently in operation around the world. Moreover, we provide the minimum requirements of the radio communication performance. Proposed minimum requirements of the radio communication improve more secure and efficient mobile communication based train control system.

Performance of PN Code Based Time Hopping Sequences in M-ary Ultra Wide Band Multiple Access Systems Using Equicorrelated Signal Sets (동일 상관 신호군을 이용하는 M-ary UWB 다원 접속 시스템에서 PN 부호 기반 시간 도약 시퀀스의 성능)

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of PN (Pseudo Noise) code based time hopping sequences for M-ary UWB (Ultra Wide Band) multiple access systems using the equicorrelated signal sets. In particular, we consider two different types of M-ary UWB systems in UWB indoor wireless multipath channels: The first type of the systems (System #1) has identical symbol transmission rate regardless of the number of symbols M since the length of signal pulse train is fixed while M increases, and the second type of the systems (System #2) has the same bit transmission rate regardless of M since the length of signal pulse train is extended according to the increase of M. We compare the proposed systems with those using the ideal random time hopping sequence in terms of the symbol error rate performance. Simulation results show that the PN code based time hopping sequence achieves quite good performance which is favorably comparable to that of the ideal random sequence. Moreover, as M increases, we observe that System #2 shows better robustness against multiple access interference than System # 1.

  • In the ubiquitous computing environment, an intelligent vehicle is defined as a sensor node with a capability of intelligence and communication in a wire and wireless network space. To make it real, a lot of problems should be addressed in the aspect of vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, common service platform and the connection of heterogeneous networks to provide a driver with several intelligent information services beyond the time and space. In this paper, we present an intelligent information system for managing in-vehicle sensor network and a vehicle gateway for connecting the external networks. The in-vehicle sensor network connected with several sensor nodes is used to collect sensor data and control the vehicle based on CAN protocol. Each sensor node is equipped with a reusable modular node architecture, which contains a common CAN stack, a message manager and an event handler. The vehicle gateway makes vehicle control and diagnosis from a remote host possible by connecting the in-vehicle sensor network with an external network. Specifically, it gives an access to the external mobile communication network such as CDMA. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixed place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.

Performance Analysis of Multi-Carrier CDMA System by Co-Channel Interference Cancellation Technique in Mobile Communication Channel (이동 통신 채널에서 동일 채널 간섭 제거 기법에 의한 Multi-Carrier CDMA 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper we have evaluated the degree of performance improvement in Multi-Carrier CDMA system adopting CCI canceller against MUI under mobile channel coexisting MU which is a major interference degrading the performance of Multi-carrier CDMA system. As a result of analysis, BER performance was improved by adopting CCI canceller and it was found that the amount of performance improvement was largely increased as Eb/No became higher. As an example, in case that data service BER = 10$^{-5}$ must be achieved with $E_{b/}$ $N_{o}$ = 12 ㏈, 4 users could be supported without CCI canceller while 30 users could be supported with CCI canceller, Also, we found that performance improving effect of 5$\times$10$^{-3}$ in a point of view BER could be achieved by adopting CCI canceller with fixed $E_{b/}$ $N_{o}$. o/. o/.

  • Entering the 21st century, the demand on information service via mobile devices is skyrocketing along with the popularization of computers and mobile communication devices and the rapid development of wireless communication technology. In particular, as mobile device service such as LBS and Telematics becomes highlighted, the management of mobile devices is ever more drawing attention. However, since there is no fixed standard on geographical space data, many commercialized monitoring systems do not use common geographical space data but independent geographic information. Furthermore, as it is impossible to save location information of each mobile device by integrating such information after acquiring them, it is difficult to trace management. Therefore, in this paper, geographic data with DXF. DWG and SHP format, which are commonly used files, were created and visualized by GML format, OGC standard advice. And then, TMS(Trace Monitoring System of Mobile Device) that can trace and manage information after acquiring and saving space information that show the movement of users was implemented.

  • Cooperative relaying systems have been studied actively to improve the system performance effectively in wireless fading channels. Most of the cooperative relay studies are assumed fixed relay, recently the performance analysis of the cooperative relaying systems with spatially random relays considering the practical mobile environment are introduced. However the comparative studies for relay selection methods of incremental cooperative relay systems, the performance of which is influenced by the selection methods, have not been studied. Therefore we derive the performance of the system which has MRC(Maximal-ratio combining) with Max SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) selection or Max-min SNR selection, respectively. And the outage performances of the system with Max or Max-min selection method are compared for different transmit power allocation to the source and to the relays. The analytical results serve as useful tools for relay selection and power allocation to transmit nodes for opportunistic incremental relaying systems.

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment for the Use of Passenger Portable Electronic Devices (승객 휴대 전자기기 사용에 대한 위해요인 식별 및 리스크 평가)

  • The entertainment system of the aircraft has changed its paradigm in the form of using passenger electronic devices instead of using a fixed monitor. This has simplified the on-board equipment while the risk of safety has increased with the electric charging of portable electronic devices. Unlike personal portable electronic devices that do not have a transmission function, the use of Wi-Fi enabled electronic devices(T-PED) is allowed and the battery is required to be charged in the cabin. In this study, we used the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System to investigate the effects of changes in wireless environment and entertainment service. Based on this, we analyzed the risks of personal electronic devices by sharing event occurrence cases caused by in-flight electronic equipment or passenger portable electronic devices(especially smart phones) from the viewpoint of aircraft safety management. This analysis includes identification of potential hazards and risk assessment, and finally the strategies for risk mitigation for safe use of portable electronic devices are suggested.

An Energy Balancing Low Power Routing Method for Sensor Network with Fixed Data Acquisition Nodes (고정식 정보획득 노드로 구성된 센서 네트워크에 적용 가능한 에너지 밸런싱 저전력 라우팅 기법)

  • Thanks to the development of microelectromechanical systems(MEMS), wireless communication technology and microsensor technology, it was Possible to manufacture a very small and low costdata acquisition node with sensing function, processing function, wireless communication function and battery. Thus sensor networks begin to be prevailed. The sensor network is a spontaneous system which sets up automatically routing paths and transmits asignificant data to the destination. Sensor nodes requires low-power operation because most of them use a battery as operating power. Sensor nodes transmit a sensing data to the destination. Moreover, they play a router. In fact, because the later consumes more energy than the former, the low-power routing is very important. Sensor networks don't have a routing standard unlike general wireless Ad-hoc networks. So This paper proposes a low-power routing method for anting to sensor networks. It is based on AODV and adapts a method to drop probably RREQ depending on remaining power. We examined it through simulations. From simulation results, we could confirm to reduce power consumption about $10-20\%$ and distribute equally power consumption among nodes.

Enhancement in BER Performance by Adaptive Sector Antennas in CDMA Wireless Multi-media Communications (CDMA 무선 멀티미디어 통신에서 적응형 섹터 안테나에 의한 오율성능 개선)

  • In this paper, we have proposed the sectorization method of the adaptive sector antenna and the new receiver structure for the CDMA wireless multi-media communication which uses multi-code and single-code. The sectorization and average BER performance of the adaptive sector antenna, which employs the proposed sectorization method, are obtained through simulation. The simulation results have shown that the sizes of sectors are properly controlled according to the distribution of the load and that the BER performance of the adaptive sector antenna is enhanced much more than that of the fixed sector antenna. Also, we have proposed two receivers, which are different from the positions to detect multi-code signals, for the multi-media communication. Each receiver has a simple cancellation scheme and two adaptive sector antennas, which are called the 1st adaptive sector antenna and the 2nd adaptive sector antenna, respectively. In this paper, the average BER performances of the receivers are compared through simulation. As the results of the simulation, we have recognized that all user' BER performances are greatly dependent on the positions to detect the multi-code signals. When we consider both system complexity and terget BERs of signals, we have concluded that the receiver, which detect multi-code signals in the 1st and the 2nd adaptive sector antenna, is appropriate for the CDMA wireless multi-media communication systems.

  • By adopting the MAC(Media Access Control) protocol which enables to pack multiple MPDUs(MAC-level Protocol Data Units) into a single PPDU(Physical Layer Protocol Data Unit), IEEE 802.11n WLAN supports high throughput. Up to now, there have been a lot of existing channel information-based A-MPDU schemes dynamically determining the number of MSDUs according to the wireless channel condition information which is sent from the receiver to sender. However, the channel information-based scheme has a serious drawback having a high system overhead due to the frequent channel feedback information. To reduce the system overhead, the proposed BA-base dynamic A-MPDU scheme simply chooses the number of MSDUs to be retransmitted by not the frequent channel feedback information but the BA signal representing whether MPSUs belonging to the A-MPDU are received or not. Through NS-2(Network Simulator-2), we found that the proposed scheme had higher throughput and lower packet error rate than the existing fixed A-MPDU scheme.
