State and Perception of Five-day School Week System, Parenting Role-sharing and Parenting Stress (주 5일 수업제에 대한 부모의 인식과 실태, 양육분담 및 양육스트레스)

  • This study aimed to identify parents' experiences of child-rearing on Saturday with no class as well as their perceptions and demands on the Five-day School Week system. The study participants were 640 parents with first to second grade children. The major results were as follows: First, parents were generally satisfied with the Five-day School Week System. Second, the Five-day School Week System increased fathers' role-sharing on the Saturday with no class. It was also related with some of the demographic variables and the Five-Week Workweek System of the father and the mother. Third, both the fathers and mothers had more parenting stress on Saturdays with no class than on Saturdays with classes. Their parenting stress on Saturdays with no class was related with some demographic variables and work flexibility.

  • These days, people have changed their attitude and understanding of the tenn leisure. Since the introduction of the five-day work week system in Korea, people's leisure activities have changed greatly. The purpose of this study was to examine how leisure activities have changed after the introduction of the five-day work week and to find out the variables which influence the way Koreans spend their leisure time. The conclusion and results of these analyses are follows: The five-day work week system increased people's leisure hours, but they were still working more than 40 hours per week and their satisfaction from leisure activities was more influenced by other variables than the enforcement of the five-day work week system. Among the variables influencing the satisfaction from leisure, only those with high income and educational backgrounds were affected by the five-day work week. To conclude, there is a necessity for direction suggestions and political support to utilize leisure time positively.

  • According to the Labor Standard Law in Japan which was enacted after World War II in 1947, all work hours for adult men, women, and youth were set at a maximum of eight hours per day and forty-eight hours per week. In other words, a six-day work week, with only one-day off, was set. Now we are in the full five-day and two-day off school system. The five-day school week influences on our home life. Students are highly enthused by the new system, in looking forward to their personal time they now have to play with friends, to relax, or just watch TV. To implement this new five-day school system positively and effectively, we should see the point at issue related to the two-day off system from a different angle, which suggests that we should see far ahead into the future.

  • The purpose of the study is to examine teachers', students', and parents' perception on the five-day-work-week school system, and to suggest ways of effective implementation. For the effective operation of the five-day-work-week school system, the curriculum should be reorganized based on current conditions, and based on problems of the actual condition, social infrastructure should be expanded. These will be contributed to taking root the five-day-work-week school system in a transition period.

  • This study conducted five day school week as seeking direction for programs and policies that meet the needs of weekend activities want the satisfaction of youth to find out what to investigate. For purpose, actually a lot since five day school week and weekend programs whether or not to participate, hope to weekend programs, weekend activities operating in the way were examined. Findings, for the first five day schol week of youth satisfaction than girls, boys lower was, since five day school week and weekend program participation rates were lower. Most since five day school week in activities with friends, sleep, games or Internet, hobby alone, watching TV, family and activities in order appeared. Young people can study their aptitude to live autonomously in a student-centered curriculum of education is required, arising from a rapidly changing society and human relationships, social problems, to respond to a variety of leisure time, and to participate in the program will be provided an opportunity.   • This paper examines the impacts of introducing Five-day school week in South Korean on adolescents' time use. Exploiting the exogenous variation in the adolescents' time at school on Saturday, I estimate the causal effect of change of adolescents' discretion time on their time use. The main findings are as follows. The introduction of the five day school week increased the adolescents' discretion time and their time spent on sleeping, passive leisure(mainly watching television). A one-minute decrease in the adolescents' time at school increase their sleeping time by 0.46 minute and passive leisure time by 0.26 minute.

Effect of Intermittent Feeding on Growth, Feed Utilization and Body Composition of Subadult Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Suboptimal Temperature

  • The effect of intermittent feeding on growth, feed utilization and body composition of subadult olive flounder fed extruded pellet (EP) in suboptimal temperature ($13.5{\pm}2.10^{\circ}C$) was determined. Two hundred twenty five subadult fish averaging 272 g were randomly distributed into fifteen of 300 L circular flow-through tanks (fifteen fish per tank). Five treatments with different days of feeding a week were prepared in triplicate: fish were hand-fed with EP to apparent satiation once a day, seven days a week (7DF), which was used as the control group or consecutive six, five, four and three days a week, for 12 weeks, referred to as 6DF, 5DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments, respectively. Weight gains and specific growth rates of fish in 6DF treatment were higher than those of fish in 7DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments, but not different from those of fish in 5DF treatment. Daily feed intake of fish in 6DF and 7DF treatments was higher than that of fish in 5DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments. Feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio of fish were not different among treatments. There was no difference in the chemical composition of fish between treatments. Results of this study demonstrated that feeding five days per week could be recommended for subadult olive flounder fed extruded pellet in suboptimal temperature.

  • In this study, we have analyzed the 2015 KNHANES VI to understand the nutritional and health status of Korean middle-age adults from the perspective of frequency of eating breakfast. Those that eat breakfast five to seven times a week were 76.3 percent (male) and 72.7 percent (female). Frequency of eating lunch and dinner, and eating out was significantly higher among male subjects. The higher the frequency of eating breakfast, the higher the frequency of eating lunch, dinner and eating out. Female subjects that ate breakfast five to seven times a week had lower height and weight compared with other groups, but there was no significant difference of BMI and waist circumference among the four groups. Adults that eat breakfast five to seven times a week had consumed more carbohydrates, dietary fiber, phosphorus, potassium and vitamin C regardless of gender, which validates the nutritional benefits of eating meals regularly. Male adults that ate breakfast five to seven times a week revealed lower levels of diastolic blood pressure and LDL-cholesterol compared with other groups, which validates eating breakfast regularly was beneficial to their health. In conclusion, it is necessary to eat regular meals daily relative to the nutritional status and health of Korean middle-age adults.

Bone Mineral Density Changes after Ovariectomy in Rats as an Osteopenic Model : Stepwise Description of Double Dorso-Lateral Approach

  • Objective : This study describes a method for inducing osteopenia using bilateral ovariectomy (OVX), which causes significant changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in rats. Methods : Twenty-five 10-week-old female Sprague Dawley rats were used. Five rats were euthanized after two weeks, and BMD was measured in their femora. The other 20 rats were assigned to one of two groups : a sham group (n = 10), which underwent a sham operation, and an OVX group (n = 10), which underwent bilateral OVX at 12 weeks of age. After six weeks, five rats from each group were euthanized, and BMD was measured in their femora. The same procedures were performed in the remaining rats form each group eight weeks later. Results : The femur BMD was significantly lower in the six-week OVX group than in the six-week sham group, and in the eight-week OVX group than in the eight-week sham group. Conclusion : Bilateral OVX is a safe method for creating an osteopenic rat model. The significant decrease in BMD appears six weeks after bilateral OVX.

A Study on the Strategies for Implementing 40 Working - hours Each Week at Public Libraries in Korea (공공도서관의 주 40시간 근무제 대응 전략에 관한 고찰)

  • Since government institutions begin working 40 hours each week, public libraries in Korea face the challenge of not only enhancing the quality of life for librarians by improving their work environment, but also providing adequate information services for patrons. The purpose of this study is to examine the potential problems which could happen with the 40 working-hours each week in public libraries, and establish the strategies for resolving these problems. For this study, based on the existing research, an attempt is made to review and analyze the following facts: (1) the details of planning for 40 working-hours each week at the government institutions in Korea; (2) the current work environment and service strategies of public libraries in other countries, including the U.S., where librarians work 40 hours each week; (3) the present state of managing public libraries with 40 working-hours each week in Korea; and (4) the strategies of public libraries as a part of cultural infrastructure in preparing for 40 working-hours each week which will be fully implemented at the government institutions in Korea.
