젊은 여성의 첫 출산 후 노동시장 복귀에 관한 분석 (Analysis of Married Women's Return to the Workforce Following First Childbirth)

  • 본 연구는 노동시장 이행을 중점적으로 분석할 수 있는 한국노동패널(KLIPS) 자료를 이용하여 출산 후 노동시장으로의 복귀를 결정하는 요인을 콕스 비례재해를 모형(Cox Regression Hazard Model)으로 분석한 연구이다. 분석 결과 출산 후 노동시장으로의 복귀를 결정하는 데 있어 학력이라는 인적자본이 정(+)의 효과가 뚜렷이 나타났으며, 자녀보육 대행자가 있는가의 여부에 따라 출산 후 노동시장으로 복귀할 이행률이 2배 이상 차이가 나는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 출산 전 취업 형태가 임금근로일 경우 노동시장 복귀로의 이행률이 비임금근로자보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다.

모의 심리적 요인 및 지역사회 양육 환경이 출산포기에 미치는 영향 : 현재자녀수에 따른 비교 (The Influence of Maternal Psychological Factors and Community Child-Care Environment on the Abandonment of Childbirth : Comparison by the Current Number of Children)

  • 본 연구는 육아정책연구소 한국아동패널의 2011년(4차년도) 자료를 활용하여 기혼여성의 출산포기에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 분석에 따른 결과는 첫째, '자녀교육비용'과 '육체적인 힘듦'이 추가자녀 출산포기의 가장 중요한 사유로 나타났다. 둘째, 현재자녀수에 따라 출산포기의 사유가 약간 차이가 있었다. 즉, 현재자녀수 1명인 여성은 '직장과 육아의 병행 힘듦'이 보다 중요한 출산포기의 사유로 나타나고, 현재자녀수 2명인 여성은 '자녀양육비용'이 보다 중요한 출산포기의 사유로 나타났다. 셋째, '연령'과 '도구적 자녀가치'가 출산포기에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 밝혀졌다. 넷째, 출산포기에 영향을 미치는 요인은 현재자녀수에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 지역사회 양육 환경인 '여가 및 문화시설 환경'은 현재자녀수 1명인 여성의 출산포기에 영향을 미치고, 모의 심리적 요인인 '부부갈등'은 현재자녀수 2명인 여성의 출산포기에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

자녀출산 전후의 부모들을 위한 양육여건 및 부모교육 실태 조사 - 대전광역시를 중심으로- (A Survey on Child Rearing Conditions and Parent Education for Parents before and after Childbirth)

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain a fundamental data for developing a policy concerning women and child rearing and a parent education program for young parents who are around their childbirth, a period crucially important both for the parents in terms of the role adjustment, career management, and family finance, and for the infants in terms of its physical and psychological well-being. The subjects were 509 mothers before and after childbirth currently living in the Metropolitan City of Daejeon. Data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews in two major areas of pregnancy-delivery-childcare and parent education. Data were analyzed using SAS, mostly through frequency analysis, percentiles, t-tests, and F-tests. Results of descriptive analyses were organized along the following areas and issues: Pregnancy(family planning, regular check-ups, difficulties, prenatal education, costs, etc.); delivery(type of delivery, delivery related experience, costs, clinic/medical institute of choice, worries/problems, help/supports, etc.); postpartum care(place, kinds of help and helper, costs, postpartum care facilities, etc.); childcare circumstances(place, carer, time schedules, childcare centers or facilities feeding and weaning, etc.); husband's attitudes and involvement in the overall process; working mothers(maternity leave, temporary retirement for child rearing, etc.); and, parent education(family planning, pregnancy, delivery, postpartum care, child rearing, areas or issues needing parent education, facilitative and hindering factors to ideal parenting, etc.). Differences between groups of pregnant mothers and postpartum mothers, working- and non-working mothers, groups of different income levels, mothers and fathers of different educational levels, mothers of first pregnancy(or childbirth) and experienced mothers were also analyzed. Several conclusions with suggestions were drawn in relation to the need for strong implementation as well as developing of policies on women and childcare and for developing a new parent education program for parents before and after childbirth.

Effect of Childbirth Age on Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Women

  • Background: In postmenopausal women, there is rapid bone loss due to estrogen depletion. In women, reproductive factors such as age at menarche, breastfeeding, and parity are considered risk factors of osteoporosis. Many reports suggest that obesity is associated with a reduced risk of osteoporosis. This nationwide, population-based study aims to identify the association between maternal age and osteoporosis risk in postmenopausal women of different obesity classifications. Methods: We assessed data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2012. The study included 1,328 postmenopausal women, after excluding women with missing data for reproductive history among 4,546 postmenopausal women in the survey. Multivariate regression was used to identify the association between childbirth age and postmenopausal bone mineral density after adjustments for confounding factors. Results: The prevalence of postmenopausal osteoporosis was 35.24% (n = 468). After dividing the subjects into obese and non-obese groups based on body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, there were significant differences between non-osteoporosis and osteoporosis groups with regard to age at first childbirth, age at last childbirth, and parity in the BMI-based general obesity group. The prevalence of osteoporosis was highest in women older than 35 years old at last childbirth. The prevalence of osteoporosis was also greater in women with parity ${\geq}4$ compared to those with lower parity levels. Conclusion: Postmenopausal women of older age at last childbirth and higher parity were at increased risk of osteoporosis in the BMI-based non-general obesity group.

결혼과 출산 간의 관계에서 거주지 선택의 조절 효과 검증 -지방소멸 대응을 위한 광역화 관점에서- (Moderating Effect of Residential Selection on the Relationship between Marriage and Childbirth - From Perspective of Regional Integration against Local Extinction -)

  • 본 연구는 결혼과 출산 간의 인과적 구조에서 거주지 선택의 조절 효과를 검증하여 거주지 선택이 출산에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 초혼은 지방정부의 공공서비스를 위한 재정적 역량, 주거 안정성, 지역 규모, 지역의 경제 상황과의 상호작용 그리고 재혼 및 외국인과의 결혼은 지방정부의 공공서비스를 위한 재정적 역량, 주거 안정성, 지역 규모와의 상호작용이 출산에 조절 효과를 지니는 것으로 확인되었다. 이런 분석 결과는 결혼 부부가 거주지로 농어촌 지역보다는 중소도시 및 대도시로 선택할 경우가 출산 의사에 더 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 의미한다. 결혼과 출산 간의 관계에서 거주지 선택의 조절 효과를 근거로 광역화를 주장하는 것이 논리적으로 문제가 있다는 의견도 존재할 수 있지만, 본 연구의 분석 결과와 현재의 결혼 부부 농어촌 지역으로서의 거주 회피현상은 광역화의 필요성을 제기하는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

어머니 세대와 할머니 세대의 출생의례 및 아기행사에 대한 비교연구 (A Cross-Generational Comparison of Traditional Rituals Parenting to Childbirth and Early Childhood)

  • In this comparison of observation of traditional childbirth and early childhood rituals, 118 young mothers whose children were 2- to 2.5- years-old and their mothers or mothers-in-law responded to questionnaires. Results showed that most grandmothers, when they were young mothers, observed more of the traditional rituals than the young mothers in sample. That is, more grandmothers hung the Kum jul(tabb rope) and the baby's grandparents named the baby. The young mothers of this sample were more likely to employ a professional name giver, they telephoned their relatives to inform them of the birth, gave a banquet, took more souvenir of picture, and were given more monetary and other gifts at their's first birthday.

Work Reentry After Childbirth: Predictors of Self-Rated Health in Month One Among a Sample of University Faculty and Staff

  • Background: Childbirth represents a significant transition for women, with physical and psychological sequelae. Reentry to the workplace during the postpartum period is understudied, with implications for maternal well-being and job-related outcomes. This study's aim was to examine selected pregnancy, childbirth, and return-to-work correlates of overall self-rated health within the first month of work reentry after maternity leave. Methods: Between December 2016 and January 2017, we surveyed women employed at a large, public Midwestern university who had given birth in the past five years (N = 249) to examine self-rated overall health in the first month of work reentry. Using ordinal logistic regression, we examined whether physical or psychological health problems during pregnancy, childbirth complications, length of maternity leave, and depression and anxiety at work reentry were related to overall health. Results: Women who experienced depression (odds ratio [OR] = 0.096 [95% confidence interval {CI} = 0.019 to 0.483, p = 0.004]) and anxiety (OR = 0.164, [95% CI = 0.042 to 0.635, p = 0.009]) nearly every day reported worse health at work reentry than those with no symptoms. Controlling for demographics and mental health, women who experienced medical problems during pregnancy (OR = 0.540 [95% CI = 0.311 to .935, p = 0.028]) were more likely to report poor health, while taking a longer maternity leave (OR = 14.552 [95% CI = 4.934 to 42.918, p < 0.001]) was associated with reporting better health at work reentry. Conclusion: Women who experience medical complications during pregnancy, return to the workplace too soon after birth, and experience mental health symptoms are vulnerable physically as they return to work.

여성의 출산 후 체중변화와 생활양식 (Body Weight Changes and Lifestyle in Women within 1 year after Childbirth)

  • Purpose: Gestational weight gain and prepregnancy body weight are important factors of childbirth outcomes, which further cause obesity, metabolic diseases, or psychological problems later in women's lives. Changes in diet, westernized lifestyle, traditional postpartum care, and childbirth at older age are thought to be threats to proper weight management in Korean women of reproductive age. Public health and antenatal care need to focus on the proper body weight management of women by carefully planning pregnancy to postpartum periods. Purpose: This study explored the body weight changes from pregnancy to postpartum and the related characteristics in women within 12 months after childbirth. Methods: A cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted with 102 Korean women within 12 months after childbirth. Data were collected using an online survey system, and a structured questionnaire available for electronic self-administration was modified to include demographics, obstetrical history, and body weight at 6 time points. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Eating Habit Measurement instruments were also used in data collection. A professional survey agency recruited the participants, and data were automatically saved and then analyzed. Results: The average age of the participants was 33.8 years, 48% were housewives and were well-educated. Seventy-two percent of the participants were primiparas and 82% had breastfed their babies. The body mass index (BMI) ranged from 17.3 to 27.8, indicating that 21.5% of the participants were overweight or obese. The mean gestational weight gain was 11.8 kg, and weight loss was apparent during the first 3 months postpartum. The mean decline in weight was 3.4 kg at one year after childbirth. Women wanted to lose 5.6 kg (range: 3~20 kg), however 44% of them reported that they had not engaged in any weight control efforts. Further, 72% of them reported having engaged in a low level of physical activity. Body weight was not associated with women's characteristics, physical activity score, and diet. Conclusion: Women's awareness of gestational weight gain, lifestyle modification, and the risk of prolonged weight retention should be promoted through the antenatal and women's healthcare systems. As pregnancy and childbirth are critical events that affect women's health, integrative education to ensure healthy transition to life after delivery is required.

유자녀 취업여성의 후속출산의도 결정 경로 분석 - 가치관적 요인을 중심으로 - (A Pathway Analysis on Determination of Intention of Second Childbirth in Working Women with a Child: Focused on Value Factors)

  • 본 연구는 '자녀가 있는 취업여성의 후속자녀 출산의도'가 어떠한 요인의 영향을 받으며, 어떠한 경로로 결정되는지를 규명하기 위한 연구이다. 본 연구는 특히 '가치관적 요인'의 영향력에 주목하여 '자녀가치관'을 특성에 따라 '개인주의적 자녀가치관'과 '집단주의적 자녀가치관'으로 구분하고 이외 주요 변수들과의 관계를 살펴볼 수 있는 연구 모형을 설정하였다. 본 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 본 연구에서 제안한 모형은 측정모형분석과 구조모형 분석을 통해 유자녀 취업여성의 후속출산의도를 설명하기에 적합한 모형인 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 우리나라에서 자녀가 하나 있는 취업여성의 후속자녀를 출산하고자 하는 의도는 여성의 '자녀가치관'에 의해 직접적으로 가장 강하게 예측될 수 있었다. 셋째, 경제적 자원과 공·사적 서비스 자원은 다른 요인을 매개하여 간접적으로 개인의 출산의도에 영향을 미치는 요인인 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 경제적 자원은 공·사적 서비스 자원 경험 수준에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 다섯째, 개인주의적 자녀가치관과 집단주의적 자녀가치관은 일-가정의 양립과 관련된 여성의 환경 조건에 의해 영향을 받아 형성·변화될 수 있는 요인인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 근거로 본 연구에서는 취업여성의 출산율 고양을 위해서는 이들의 일-가정 양립을 둘러싼 환경 조건의 변화를 통해 긍정적 자녀가치관을 형성하는 것이 중요함을 제안하였다.

가족친화제도, 직장생활, 가정생활과 추가출산의향 간의 관계 (The Relationship among Family-Friendly Policies, Work-Life, Family-Life, and Intention of Childbirth)

  • This study is to examine the influence of family-friendly policies on married female workers'desire for an additional child and the mediating effects of family-friendly policies and birth intention on the relationship between work- and family-life. A questionnaire survey was conducted with married female women who were under the age of 40 years and with young children, using convenience sampling. Initially, a total of 400 survey questionnaires were distributed and 326 of them were gathered and analyzed as final data. The study conducted descriptive statistics, structural equation modeling, Sobel's test, latent means analysis, and multi-group analysis to test the hypotheses. The findings are as follows. First, family-friendly policies positively impacted married women's willingness to have additional children. Second, family-friendly policies had significant positive implications on married female workers' work-life. It shows that family-friendly policies influenced married women's job satisfaction and organizational commitment, enhancing work-life satisfaction. Third, family-friendly policies were positively related with married women's family-life. It revealed that the policies had an impact on their marital satisfaction and parenting stress, improving family-life satisfaction. Fourth, married women's work-life factors, such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment, were not significantly associated with their intention of childbirth. Fifth, marital satisfaction and parenting stress were positive and significant factors affecting women's willingness to have additional children. Sixth, married women's family-life mediated the association between family policies and their childbirth intention, but their work-life did not do. Last, work- and family-life mediated the significant effect of family-friendly policies on the willingness in both groups: family-friendly policies${\rightarrow}$work-life, family-friendly policies${\rightarrow}$childbirth willingness, and family-friendly policies${\rightarrow}$family-life.
