In this research, the finite element analysis of piezocone penetration and dissipation tests have been conducted using the anisotropic elastoplastic-viscoplastic bounding surface model in the Updated Lagrangian reference frame for the large deformation and finite strain nu\ature of piezocone penetration. Accordingly, virtual work equation and corresponding finite element equations have been reformulated. Theory of mixtures has been incorporated to explain the behavior of the sol. It has been observed that the viscoplastic part of the soil model affected the whole formulation. The results of the finite element analysis have been compared and investigated with the experimental results. The formulations and the results are described in part 'I' and part 'II', respectively.

The reliability concerns of solder interconnections in flip chip PBGA packages are produced mainly by the mismatch of coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) between the module and PCB. Finite element analysis has been employed extensively to simulate thermal loading for solder joint reliability and deformation of packages in electronic packages. The objective of this paper is to study the thermo-mechanical behavior of FC-PBGA package assemblies subjected to temperature change, with an emphasis on the effect of the finite element model, material models and temperature conditions. Numerical results are compared with the experimental results by using $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry. Result shows that the bending displacements of the chip calculated by the finite element analysis with viscoplastic material model is in good agreement with those by $moir{\acute{e}}$ inteferometry.

This study focuses on development of a finite element model for analysis of thermal characteristics of a direct-connection spindle of a machining center by joint simulation of heat transfer and thermal deformation. Two finite element analyses were carried out procedurally for heat transfer, first, to identify temperature distribution of components of the spindle and then for thermal deformation to identify their structural behavior based on the temperature distribution. It was assumed that the heat transfer between a component revolving and the surrounding air is identical to that between a flat plate and the running air on it and the heat transfer is based on a uniform surface heat flux for turbulent flow. The results from the analyses were compared with those from experiments to validate the finite element model.
An inverse finite element approach is employed for more capability to design the optimum blank shape from the desired final shape with small amount of computation time and effort. For multi-stage deep-drawing processes with large aspect ratio, numerical analysis is extremely difficult to carry out due to its complexities and convergence problem. as well as tremendous computation time. In this paper, multi-stage finite element inverse analysis is applied to multi-stage rectangular cup drawing processes to calculate intermediate blank shapes and strain distributions in each stages. Deformation history of the previous stage is considered in the computation. Finite element patches are used to describe arbitrary intermediate sliding constraint surfaces.

A finite element procedure for the analysis of rubber-like hyperelastic material is developed. The volumetric incompressiblity conditions of the rubber deformation is included in the formulation by using penalty method. In this paper, the behavior of the rubber deformation is represented by hyperelastic constitutive relations based on a generalized Mooney-Rivlin model. The principle of virtual work is used to derive nonlinear finite element equation for the large displacement problem and presented in total-Lagrangian description. The finite element procedure using analytic differentiation resulted in very close solution to the result of the well known commercial packages NISAII AND ABAQUS. Numerical tests show that the results from the numerical differentiation method coincide very well with those from the analytic method and the well known commercial packages in static analysis. The convergency of rubber usingν iteration method is also discussed.
During the shape rolling process the influence of reduction ration and taper of shape roller on deformation and limit of ductile fracture such as free surface cracks developing in the workpiece has been studied. The deformation behaviours were analyzed by the 3-dimensional elasto-pastic finite element method and the conditions of ductile fracture were determined from 3-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element method and modified Cockrogt-Latham criterion. The deformed geometry and prediction of ductile fracture by 3-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element method are compared with experimental results The calcuated results are in good agreements with experimental data. The analysis used in the study was found to be effective in predicting the shape rolling process.
In this paper, we present the equations of motion by which the natural vibration of a rotating annular disk can be accurately analyzed. These equations are derived from the theory of finite deformation and the principle of virtual work. The radial displacements of annular disk which is rotating at constant angular velocity are determined by non-linear equations formulated using 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction. The equations of the in-plane vibrations at disturbed state are also formulated using 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction along the number of nodal diameters. They are expressed as in functions of the radial displacements at the steady state and the disturbed displacements about the steady state. In-plane static deformation modes of the annular disk are used as the interpolation functions of 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction. The natural vibrations of an annular disk with different boundary conditions are analyzed by using the presented model and the 3-dimensional finite element model to verify accuracy of the presented equations of motion. Its results are compared and discussed.
The main objective of this paper is to develop the finite element study on the nonlinear free vibration of functionally graded nanocomposite spherical shells reinforced with graphene platelets under the first-order shear deformation shell theory and von Kármán nonlinear kinematic relations. The governing equations are presented by introducing the full asymmetric nonlinear strain-displacement relations followed by the constitutive relations and energy functional. The extended Halpin-Tsai model is utilized to specify the overall Young's modulus of the nanocomposite. Then, the finite element formulation is derived and the quadrilateral 8-node shell element is implemented for finite element discretization. The nonlinear sets of dynamic equations are solved by the use of the harmonic balance technique and iterative method to find the nonlinear frequency response. Several numerical examples are represented to highlight the impact of involved factors on the large-amplitude vibration responses of nanocomposite spherical shells. One of the main findings is that for some geometrical and material parameters, the fundamental vibrational mode shape is asymmetric and the axisymmetric formulation cannot be appropriately employed to model the nonlinear dynamic behavior of nanocomposite spherical shells.
Embankments on soft ground experience significant deformation during time-dependent consolidation settlement, as well as an initial undrained settlement. Since infinitesimal strain theory assumes no configuration change and minute strain during deformation, finite strain analysis is required for better prediction of geotechnical problems involving large strain and geometric change induced by imposed loadings. Updated Lagrangian formulation is developed for time-dependent consolidation combining both force equilibrium and mass conservation of fluid, and mechanical constitutive equation is written in Janumann stress rate. Numerical convergence during Newton's iteration in large deformation analysis is improved by Nagtegaal's approach of considering the effect of rotation in mechanical constitutive relationship. Numerical simulations are conducted to discuss numerical reliability and applicability of developed numerical code: deformation of cantilever beam, two-dimensional consolidation. The numerical results show that developed formulation can efficiently describe large deformation problems. Proposed formulation is expected to facilitate the upgrading of a numerical code based on infinitesimal strain theory to that based on finite strain analysis.
In this study, the behavior of densification of copper powders during high-pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature is investigated using the finite element method. The simulation results show that the center of the workpiece is the first to reach the true density of copper during the compressive stage because the pressure is higher at the center than the periphery. Subsequently, whole workpiece reaches true density after compression due to the high pressure. In addition, the effective strain is increased along the radius during torsional stage. After one rotation, the periphery shows that the effective strain is increased up to 25, which is extensive deformation. These high pressure and severe strain do not only play a key role in consolidation of copper powders but also make the matrix harder by grain refinement.
