It is strongly needed to investigate the fine sand as an alternative fine aggregate of well-graded river sand because the fine sand which is being enormously distributed in the midstream and downstream of Nakdong-River in Korea has a poor grading but good quality as a fine aggregate for concrete. Thus, the purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the durability of concrete using the fine sand to utilize it actively as a fine aggregate. For this purpose, the concrete specimens using different fine sand were made for the specified concrete strength of 35MPa, and then their durability such as the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation, and drying shrinkage were evaluated. It was observed from the test results that the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation of concrete using the fine sand was similar to that of concrete using reference sand, but the drying shrinkage of concrete using the fine sand with small fineness was comparatively lager than that of concrete using reference sand.
Dune sands are poorly graded collapsible soils lacking fines. This experimental study explored the technical feasibility of sustainable invigoration of fine waste materials to improve the geotechnical properties of dune sand. The fine waste considered in this study is fine marble waste. The fine waste powder was mixed with dune sand at different contents (5, 10,15, 20, 25, 50%), where the gradation, void ratio, compaction, and shear strength characteristics were assessed for each fine marble waste -dune sand blend. The geotechnical properties of the dune sand-fine marble waste mix delineated in this study reveal the enhancement in compaction and gradation characteristics of dune sand. According to the results, the binary mixture of dune sand with 20% of fine marble waste gives the highest maximum dry density and results in shear strength improvement. In addition, a numerical study is conducted for the practical application of the binary mix in the field and tested for an isolated shallow foundation. The elemental analysis of the fine marble waste confirms that the material is non-contaminated and can be employed for engineering applications. Furthermore, the numerical study elucidated that the shallow surface replacement of the site with the dune sand mixed with 20% fine marble waste gives optimal performance in terms of stress generation and settlement behavior of an isolated footing. For a sustainable mechanical performance of the fine marble waste mixed sand, an optimum dose of 20% fine marble waste is recommended, and some correlations are proposed. Thus, for improving dune sand's geotechnical characteristics, the addition of fine marble waste to the dune sand is an environment-friendly solution.
To examine the effects of substratum types on the growth of Caulerpa okamurae, sand surface and sand burial experiments were conducted. Five assimilators (erect fronds) per replicate were cultured for 15 d on the surface of three different treatments: fine sand (200 ㎛), coarse sand (600 ㎛), and no sand (control). Also, three stolons and three assimilators were buried by fine grain or coarse grain sands and incubated for 15 d. In both experiments, other culture conditions included 25℃, 30 μmol photons m-2 s-1, and 16 : 8 h L : D (light : dark). In both experiments, stolon + assimilator-, assimilator-, and stolon-weights were measured. Relative growth rates (RGRs) of stolon + assimilator weights ranged from 0.43 to 1.95% d-1 at no sand and fine sand treatment, respectively. RGRs for the weight of stolon + assimilator and new assimilators were significantly greater on the fine- and coarse sand surface than the control. In the burial experiments, RGRs of stolons (4.28% d-1 at coarse sand and 5.57% d-1 at fine sand, respectively) were significantly greater than those of assimilators (1.38% d-1 at fine sand and 1.82% d-1 at coarse sand, respectively). When stolons were buried, RGRs for assimilators were greater at the fine sand than at the coarse sand treatment. On the other hand, RGRs of buried assimilators for total frond weights and for newly produced stolons were significantly greater at the coarse sands than at the fine sands. In conclusion, C. okamurae grew well with all substrates of sands and showed better growth on fine sands than coarse ones. This result suggests that the growth of stolons and assimilators of C. okamurae is stimulated after stable attachment to the sand substrates by rhizophores. In addition, stolons showed higher growth rates than the assimilators in the sand burial states, indicating that stolons are more tolerant to low light than assimilators of C. okamurae.

In this study, the effect of very fine sand on drying shrinkage cracking of concrete was experimentally evaluated. As a result of the study, the time-to-cracking of concrete used very fine sand was shorter than plain concrete. Also, the stress rate of concrete used very fine sand was higher than plain concrete. It was due to the increase of water content when very fine sand was used in concrete. In conclusion, the use of very fine sand can lead the increase of water content to meet the target slump and higher potential of cracking of concrete.

Recently, with the wide shortage of natural sand resources, it has been increasingly used the crushed sand. rushed sand is made by the process of crushing the rocks artificially, which has different particle properties compared with that of natural sand. Because such different panicle properties of crushed sand results in an undesirable effects of concrete. improvement technology for crushed sand particle properties like grain shape and fine particle needed during the manufacturing process. In this paper, improvement technology of grain shape and fine particle is reported. According to test results, adequate investment for manufacturing facilities like impact crusher and abrasion test machine is required to meet the advanced grain shape and grading of crushed sand. Based on the investigation of test result, mixing of natural land and crushed sand with given proportion can achieve the improvement of grain shape. For improving excessive fine panicle contents. current manufacturing system also can enhance the existing technology for fine particle without additional investment. It can be concluded that adequate investment and research can improve the quality of crushed sand.

1. Fine aggregates of concrete are very important for the construction works and construction cost determination. Most of fine aggregates are from the river sand, but the amount of storage in the river side is steadily decreasing due to continuous construction works. Therefore, another source of fine aggregates is needed to meet increasied demand of sand. 2. Beach sand is a possible source of fine aggregates. But rust of steel bar is caused by CL-chemical of beach sand. Therefore, desalinization of beach sand is requested to get durable reinforced concrete. Economical methods of desalinization are as follows. (a) Flooding and drainage method. (b) Washing of beach sand with water supply and mixing. (c) Spreading of beach sand on the land and leaching by rain water for a few month. 3. Hardening of concrete with beach sand is accelerated due to salt, Thus early stage strength increase leads to make cracks. Also later stage strength decreases and durability becomes worse. By using appropriate admixture, the quality of concrete can be improved.
The rheological behaviour of high strength self compacting concrete (HS-SCC) studied through an experimental investigation is presented in this paper. The effect of variation in supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ four different types of processed crushed sand as fine aggregates is studied. Apart from the ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the SCMs such as fly ash (FA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) ultrafine slag (UFS) and micro-silica (MS) are used in different percentages keeping the mix -paste volume and flow of concrete, constant. The combinations of rheology, strength and durability are equally important for selection of mixes in respect of high-rise building constructions. These combinations are referred to as the rheo-strength and rheo-durability which is scientifically linked to performance based rating. The findings show that the fineness of the sands and types of SCM affects the rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance of HS-SCC. The high amount of fines often seen in fine aggregates contributes to the higher yield stress. Further, the mixes with processed sand is found to offer better rheology as compared to that of mixes made using unwashed crushed sand, washed plaster sand, washed fine natural sand. The micro silica and ultra-fine slag conjunction with washed crushed sand can be a good solution for high rise construction in terms of rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance.

This study is to investigate the properties of concrete with crushed sand on site and to propose a quality guideline for its use as artificial sand and concrete. From our experimental result in laboratory and site, we found that demand water of concrete with crushed sand for target slump increased by 18kg/m3 compared to mixed sand and l8kg/m3 compared to sea sand respectively. The compressive strength increased by around 3∼6% when compared to concrete with sea sand. Accordingly, our study showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand would be desirable to obtain workability and strength of concrete including dry shrinkage and bleeding test. Furthermore, the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand was 50% with sea sand. As such, crushed sand would be sufficient as fine aggregate for concrete in terms of economic efficiency and quality. Crushed sand, on the other hand can only be used as fine aggregate when VFS(Very Fine Sand) is below 3.5 percentage of weight of sand and particle shape is above 55 percentage. Also, the particle shape and microsand passing NO.200 sieve should continually be improved to increase workability of concrete on site.

In this study, three kinds of fine aggregate (river sand, sea sand, crushed sand) were used and four different s/a (38%, 40%, 42%, 45%) were applied separately to this experimental for get the conclusion written below. Regardless of kinds of fine aggregate and casting-curing condition, maximum unit weight is seen at 40% of s/a and also to be seen in case of crushed sand. It's for that specific gravity of crushed sand is bigger comparatively than river sand and sea snad's one. Compressive strength is measured river sand, crushed sand, sea sand by order of size ; Regardless of variation of s/3, casting-curing condition and age. Compressive strength recorded maximum when s/a is 42% whatever sort of fine aggregate are. As the result, according to references, the optimum s/a of underwater antiwashout concrete is 40% but in this study, from compressive strength of view, the optimum s/a of underwater antiwashout concrete is 42%.

This paper investigated the results of quality of concrete using mixed sand with grading adjustment in order to find out the applicability of fine aggregate with bad grading, According to test results, fluidity of concrete with fine level grading river sand was decreased while with coarse level grading crushed sand increased compared with that with medium level grading crushed sand. Use of mixed sand with grading adjustment(MSG) resulted in an improvement in fluidity. Increase in fineness modulus led to an increase in bleeding, For compressive strength, use of MSG increased compressive strength. For drying shrinkage, use of fine level grading river sand resulted in an increasing drying shrinkage due to the larger presence of fine particles, while use of MSG led to a reduction in drying shrinkage
