We propose an air purification system that utilizes aerial plant parts and root zone of indoor plants where light is insufficient and air circulation is bad. In order to maximize the air purification effect of the plant, the aerial plant parts illuminates mixed light combining blue and green LED and CRI(Color Rendering Index) LEDs close to natural light, respectively. And the root zone was forcibly circulated by the fan to use the soil as a filter. The indoor air purification system combined with the light source and the fan removed most polluted air in the shortest. In the case of mixed light and CRI LEDs of indoor air purification system, fine dust decreased by 14%, 14.2%, and TVOC(Total volatile organic compounds) decreased by 7.5% and 9.4%, respectively. In the experiment in which the fan was operated for 15 minutes, the TVOC decreased to 97.8%. The photosynthesis of the plant and the use of soil as a filter were able to purify polluted air in a short time. And the fan's temporary operation gave the similar effect of continuous operation.

This study is to find ways to self-produce energy even in buildings through the system of trees that grow by themselves focused on literatures and case studies. It is divided into the structure, circulation and reaction system of tree. 1) In the structural system, the tree is divided into the shoot and root system, and maintains rigidity with the cell membranes. The wind resistance caused by the trunk and crown can be applied to the seismic structure principle of building, and the role of platelike buttresses of lateral roots can be applied to the horizontal truss and suspension bridge. 2) In the circulation system, the transpiration action through the fine stomata of the leaves can be a very effective cooling means because a large amount of heat is released and this method can be directly introduced into the cooling of buildings. 3) In the responsive system, the response system according to environmental changes that can be read from the leaves and flowers of trees can be applied to the roof and exterior design of buildings through the use of new sensing technologies and materials.
Monthly changes of underground growth and ethanol extract content was investigated from April to September in Korean ginseng of 4, 5 and 6 year-old. Taproot's length was repeatedly reduced and recovered without increasing by growth duration, while it's diameter was gradually increased until September of harvest time. Top weight reached to the peak on July, and decreased gradually until harvest time. Root weight of 4, 5 and 6-year-old ginseng was decreased on May, but increased gradually until harvest time except 6-year-old ginseng decreased after July. Relative growth rate (RGR) of root per plant was low on May and August, but high on June, July, and September in 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng. RGR of 4 and 5-year-old ginseng in each lateral and fine root showed distinct changes by month, while those showed little seasonal changes in 6 year-old ginseng. Ratio of root above 60g on september was 23%, 60% and 69%, respectively, among 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng. Moisture content of root was gradually decreased until september without significant difference from July to september in 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng, and its descending order on september was 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng. Hardness of taproot was decreased on May, but increased until september in 4 and 5 year-old ginseng, while that of 6 year-old ginseng was gradually decreased from August to september. Extract content of 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng in taproot and lateral root was distinctly decreased from March to June, but gradually increased until September. Although extract content of March and May in 4 year-old ginseng on showed higher than that of 5 and 6 year-old ginseng, it of September didn't show significant difference among 4, 5 and 6 year-old ginseng.

Yield and ginsenoside contents of ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) is affected by light intensity and quality, and the color and the thickness of PE shading net when PE net is utilized for shading material. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of light quality on root yield and ginsenoside contents off-year-old ginseng by using polyethylene shading net with each blue and yellow color, Spectral irradiance under blue and yellow shading net showed the peak at 498 nm and 606 nm, respectively, which made distinct difference in light quality. Heat injury ratio of blue shading net was increased distinctly more than that of yellow shading net in summer season because of higher transmitted quantum (23%)and air temperature (0.3 $^{\circ}$C) in blue shading net than those of yellow shading net. Chlorophyll content and leaf area under yellow shading net were higher than those of blue shading net, and its heat injury ratio was lower than those of blue. These effects may led to 48% higher increase of root yield under yellow shading net than that under blue shading net. The content of total ginsenoside in taproot was not significantly differed between blue and yellow shading net, while the content in lateral and fine root was significantly increased in blue shading net compared to yellow shading net. PDM ratio of blue shading net showed more significant increase in lateral root than that of yellow shading net. All of Rb$_1$/Rg$_1$ ratio in three parts of root under blue shading net was higher than that of yellow shading net, but there were no significant increase in the ratio of lateral root.

This study was carried out for the description of the conflicts on the measurement of the root collar diameter of the landscape trees that are currently being produced, distributed, and planted in S. Korea, and for determination of the standard for root collar diameter measurement. The difference in consciousness of appropriate measurement of root collar diameter among different ages of landscape practitioners was statistically significant at p<0.05 level. It seemed to be due to the difference in the amount of field experiences among different age groups. On "the ambiguity of measuring the root collar diameter' of landscape trees", the consciousness was significantly different at p<0.05 level among job positions. On "Improvement of measurement criteria for landscape trees," it was significantly different at p<0.05 level among job types. This was thought to be due to the disagreement between the client and the contractor. On "prevention of topsoil removal" when excavating landscape trees, the consciousness was significantly different at p<0.001 level among different age groups, and different at p<0.01 level among different occupations, and different at p<0.05 level among different working area. The consciousness on "removing top soil when excavating landscape trees and rooting after transplantation" was not significantly different. The consciousness on the conflict caused by "ambiguity in root collar diameter measurement criteria" was high with an average of 3.85 for job type, occupation, jop position, and work experience. It was higher for landscape contractors than public institutions. The higher job positions and more experiences, the more conflicts. The consciousness on the appropriate position of root collar diameter measurement for landscape trees revealed that measuring at above-ground part (66.5%) was prefered to the underground part (33.0%). During the excavation of landscape trees for transplant, topsoil removal up to average depth of -2cm to -4cm was favored by 84.0%, and the purpose of removing topsoil was recognized as 'to increase the size and unit cost' by 59.7%.

Objectives: No 3D anthropometric analyses have been conducted for Korean children's faces for the purpose of designing respiratory protective devices. The aim of this study was to develop masks against yellow dust and fine particulates, particularly for children in Korea. Methods: This study utilized a 3D scanning method to obtain 16 facial anthropometric data from children, ages of 5 to 13 years old. A total of 144 boys and girls were recruited from the kindergarten, elementary schools and middle schools in Seoul. With facial dimensions obtained, cluster analysis was performed to categorize them into similar facial groups. For each cluster, an optimal mask was designed and manufactured using a 3D printer. In addition, lung function data were obtained from 62 subjects and compared with those of normal adults. The pulmonary physiological results were subsequently used to suggest a test method for mask certification. Results: Facial shapes were classified into tree clusters: small, medium, and large. The face width and length for the first group were small with high nosal protrusion. The face width and length for the second group were the largest among the three clusters. The third group had the largest angle of nose root - gnathion(n-prn-gn). Age was the most significant variable in the facial dimensions. Children's pulmonary physiological capacity was about 60% of adults' capacity. The results of fit test using the prototype masks developed showed very good fits for children. Conclusions: For Korean children, three mask sizes will be sufficient and practical for providing protection against yellow dust and fine particulates. Anthropometric data obtained using digitalized 3D face analysis can be very effective for designing respiratory devices. 3D images can be accurate and easily measured for multiple dimensions, particularly for curved areas of the face. It is imperative to adopt different test methods for certifying respiratory protective devices for children, since their pulmonary physiological capacity is inferior compared with that of adults.
The objective of this study was to investigate suitable plantation site for planted Chamaecyparis obtusa seedlings from the analysis of regional early growth performances. Two years old C. obtusa seedlings were planted with the density of $3,900seedlings{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ in late March, 2011 at Haeman and Jangseong, Jeollanamdo. In each study site, three plots ($400m^2$ per plot) were established and root collar diameter (mm) and tree height (cm) of each C. obtusa were measured in April, 2011 and October from 2011 to 2013. We also analyzed soil physical and chemical properties of sites and compartmental nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations of C. obtusa. Although the concentrations of soil nitrogen, organic matter, and C.E.C. at Haenam site were higher than those at Jangseong site, early growth performances of planted C. obtusa at Jangseong site were significantly better than those at Haenam site. The reasons for these results were probably related to deep available soil depth at Jangseong site and relatively low annual precipitation and sea wind at Haenam site, which was adjacent to the sea. The compartmental nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations of C. obtusa was in the order of needles > current twigs > fine root > stem and branches root above 2 mm in diameter. The phosphorus concentration of needles at Haenam site was significantly higher than that at Jangseong site. The results of this study might be useful for the selection of suitable plantation site for C. obtusa.

This study is carried out to make the environmentally affinitive porous planting block for revegetation and to make a effective program for greening plans. The summary is shown below. 1. In order to get stronger intensity and distribute proper porosity in the block for planting, the cements mixed with fine soil were used and the finer in soil grains gives the stronger in intensity of the cements. Use of the furnace slag cements instead of the portland cements showed relatively stronger in intensity of the block. The intensity of the block became stronger when the mixed ratio of the cements to soil is 5 : 1, but the pore space ratio was lower. The percolate pH of the portland cements after one month of treatment was 13.1 but the percolate pH of the furnace slag cements was shown lower. To mold proper porous planting blocks, the proper combination of additives such as the dehydrating agent, elastic agent and adhesives into the mixture of cements and soil gives better effectives. 2. After molding the porous planting blocks, it gave a better result when the grains of the filler made of peat moss, upland soil and compound fertilizer were smaller than 2 mm in size. Shaking of the filling materials also gave the better result, but it took more time and cost much more. Therefore, it was better when the filling materials were mixed with water first then flew down for stuffing. 3. It was necessary to cover with soil after seeding or planting on the porous planting blocks. The proper thickness of the soil to help root development and keep moisture is about 3~5 cm. 4. The plants for planting on the porous planting block were required stronger in the growth condition of their roots and their environmental adaptability. The average germination percentage and rate of Platycodon grandiflorum on the porous planting block were 88.8% and 85% accordingly and their rate is very uniform. The germination rates of Dianthus superbus var. longicalycinus and Taraxacum officinale were more than 50%. These grass species, Chelidonium majus var. asiaticum, Lysimachia mauritiana and Scabiosa mansenensis were the suggested biennial grasses in the planting area where exchanging of the seedling or nursery plants was not necessary because their germination rates were 59.3, 45.6 and 40.3% accordingly. Viola kapsanensis, Chrysanthemum sp., Taraxacum sp. and Iris ensata var. spontanea are the grass species that could be used by seeding for greening. However, the germination rate of Solidago virga-aurea var. asiatica, Aster scaber and Lythrum anceps were lower than 10%. The coverage ratio of Ixeris stolonifera is more than 80% after 60 days seeding and the root length of most of species are more than 10 cm except Iris ensata var. spontanea and Platycodon grandiflorum because their root developed thicker than other species.
This study was conducted to elucidate the effect of mulching materials on growth characteristics, saponin contents and antioxidant activity of Platycodin grandiflorum Ridix roots for organic farming. Plastic film, sawdust and rice bran were treated by mulching with several different methods after transplanting P. grandiflorum Radix. In root length, when plastic film plot, sawdust plot and rice bran plot were treated, root length was recorded the highest scores (24.0~27.5 cm) in plastic film plot and sawdust plot. Root width was recorded the highest score (30.0 mm) in plastic film plot. Also, the number of fine-roots was the highest in plastic film plot (36.0). Fresh weight, which affects directly yield, was the highest in plastic film plot (130 g/plant). The contents of platycodin D3 and deapioplatycodin D were shown to 111.2 and 48.1 mg/100 g, the highest values were observed in sawdust plot. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were recorded the highest scores (11.0 and 8.6 mg/g, respectively) in plastic film plot. In this study we confirmed that there were differences among mulching materials in growth characteristics, saponin contents and antioxident activity of P. grandiflorum roots.
The abolishment of the red ginseng monopoly act by the Korean government in 1996 resulted in a drastic change in the Korean ginseng industry, leading to a significant increase in the market size and consumption of ginseng products. Red ginseng is most popular type, with approximately 74% of harvested fresh ginseng being processed into various red ginseng products. Since 1997, there has been a substantial increase in the cultivation of ginseng for production of red ginseng, which, in turn, has contributed to the proliferation of ginseng processing companies. To investigate the products of ginseng manufacturing businesses, we select 200 companies primarily engaged in ginseng processing or specializing solely in ginseng. Our survey on the status of ginseng industry covered 8 different categories. 1) Root ginseng: There were 66 companies involved in manufacturing red ginseng root, accounting for 33.0% of all surveyed companies. This was followed by black ginseng root with 36 companies (18.0%) and red ginseng fine roots with 22 companies (11%). 2) Red ginseng products: A total of 144 companies were involved in manufacturing red ginseng pouches, making it the most common product category. This was closely followed by 142 companies producing pure(100%) red ginseng extract concentrate. 3) Fermented red ginseng products: Companies producing fermented red ginseng extract concentrate products were the most numerous, totaling 26. Following this, companies producing fermented red ginseng stick and pouch products were next in line. 4) Ginseng products: There were 15 companies involved in the production of ginseng products, with the majority focusing on ginseng tea. 5) Black ginseng products: Companies producing black ginseng extract concentrate were the most numerous, with 31 companies, followed by 26 companies producing black ginseng extract pouches. 6) Taegeuk ginseng products: Only 5 companies were involved in the production of taegeuk ginseng products. 7) Fermented black ginseng, and 8) Ginseng berry products: These categories are manufactured by less than 5 companies each. However, the variety in ginseng berry products suggests the potential for future growth. In the 2000s, a trend emerged with the development of new processed products aimed at enhancing the functional components of red ginseng, and these products have captured the attention of consumers. However, this study primarily focuses on black ginseng, fermented red ginseng/fermented black ginseng, and ginseng berry products as they have exerted a significant influence on the overall ginseng industry.
