Evaluation of the Degree of Consolidation using Settlement and Excessive Pore Water Pressure (침하량과 간극수압에 의한 압밀도의 평가(지반공학))

  • This study was performed to analyze the degree of consolidation by the dissipation of excessive pore water pressure and final settlement prediction methods of the very soft clay. Hyperbolic method, Asaoka method and curve fitting method were used to compute the degree of consolidation. The degree of consolidation with excessive pore water pressure were used to compute, which considered the dissipation time with embankment construction. The degree of consolidation that was obtained by the peak excessive pore water pressure was less than in the case of the dissipation excessive pore water pressure. And, the degree of consolidation by the total settlement was nearly the same value that of layer settlement. The degree of consolidation that was obtained by excessive pore water pressure was larger than in the case of the settlement.

EVALUATION AS A BIOASSAY PREPARATION OF TORTOISE INTESTINE FOR PROSTAGLANDIN E1

  • The isolated strips of tortoise intestine are evaluated as a test organ for bioassay of prostaglandin E1. This preparation responded highly sensitively to PGE1 and PGE2 in picogram concentration range. The mean slope and the value of precision index among the doses of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5ng/ml in final concentration were 37.7 and 0.143, respectively. And this was relatively insensitive to different prostaglandins; E1/E21, E1/A250 and E1/F2α100, and showed the dual responses to 5-hydroxytryptamine and histamine; initial contraction followed by relaxation. The dose-ratio inducing the relative equal contraction height for PGE1, acetylcholine, caerulein, angiotensin and barium chloride was 0.4 : 50 : 25 : 10 : 100 in this order. These results suggest that the intestinal strips of the tortoise are suitable for bioassay of prostaglandin E1 and E2 between the doses of 0.1 and 1.0 ng/ml level in the tissue extracts.

A Pedagogical Choice for Improving the Perception of English Intonation

  • One of the learning difficulties for Korean learners of English is the intonation of English focused yes/no questions. Focused words in English yes/no questions are realized as low pitch accents which contrast with high pitch accents in Korean counterparts. In order to improve Korean students' intonation, direct and metalinguistic explanations on the intonation of English focused yes/no questions were given to Korean learners of English. In pre-tests and post-tests, students' perceptions on the target items were measured. The study results showed that phonetic explanation using intonation contour enhanced students' perception on English intonation. With respect to the position of focused words, sentence initial and medial focused questions were more difficult than sentence final focused questions. The perception was most improved in sentence initial focused questions. The study showed the immediate effects of the explicit instruction on perceptions of English intonation.

Effects of Meat Country-of-Origin on the Consumer Evaluations of Restaurant Menus - Focused on University Students - (외식 메뉴의 식육 원산지가 메뉴 평가에 미치는 영향 - 대학생을 중심으로 -)

  • This study was designed to determine the effects of meat country-of-origin on the perceived quality, perceived risk, perceived value, and purchase intension of restaurant menu items. A total of 237 university students in Seoul were used in the final statistical analyses, which included factor analysis, ANOVA and Duncan's test. The results were as follows: First, in the case of perceived quality, the participants gave higher evaluations of restaurant menu items better when the origin of the foodstuff was Korea. Second, the effects of origin on perceived value were not statistically significant. Third, the effect of origin on the purchase intension of fried chicken was statistically significant, but the effects of origin on the purchase intension of boned rib and fillet were not statistically significant. Lastly, the limitations of this study and suggestions for further research are presented.

Sensory and Microbiological Properties of Dongchimi added with Gatt (Brassica juncea) (갓 동치미의 관능적 및 미생물학적 특성)

  • An optional ingredient, Gatt(Brassica juncea) was adopted to improve the quality of Dongchimi during fermentation. The final weight percentage of Gatt in Dongchimi was adjusted to 0, 3, 5, 10, or 15%, per radish. Sensory and microbiological characteristics were determined during fermentation at 10C for 45 days. The effect was varied depending on the amounts of Gatt, but Dongchimi fermented with 5% Gatt was most favored for color, flavor, taste, and overall acceptability in sensory evaluation. According to the quantitative descriptive analysis for the product, the liquid portion of Dongchimi steadily became clearer and less sour in proportion to the amount of added Gatt. The fermentation retarding action of Gatt at the initial stage of Dongchimi fermentation was clearly seen as above. However, the addition of Gatt at above 15% of Chinese radish was not desirable due to the accelerated fermentation at the later stage. The general changing patterns in typical characteristics of fermentation including microbial counts were comparable with each other depending on the treatments. And favorable Dongchimi could be prepared by fermenting with 5% Gatt at the given condition.

  • This study aims to develop an educational program in using credit card for undergraduate students. In order to achieve this aim, a processor has been followed. first of all, a fundamental work to select the educational contents was Preceded with a survey of learners' needs, case studies of counselling at Consumer Protection Board, and preceding studies. After choice of educational contents, learners' demands on how to manage the educational program was executed in advance. Second, reflecting the above mentioned educational contents, a concrete educational program was built. Based on the constructed plans, both preliminary training and main training were proceeded. Third, to evaluate the effects of the educational program, the knowledge difference, behaviors and attitude changes were all diagnosed. The result suggested that the educational effect was significant in all evaluations section. At last, final program of using credit cards was completed.

  • A multi-train operation simulation software is under development, in this G7 Project for a High Speed Train System, to simulate the running performance, power consumption, signalling and operation. In the first stage, a Train Performance Simulation (TPS) software is introduced in this paper. This is a core module of whole system and gives some parameters of a train, e.g., its position, speed traction and braking power and electric power system state, etc. In this paper, calculation technique was used for voltage drop at the train's positions and major posts along the catenary line. The final program will be used as an evaluation tool for system performance in constructing a new line or introducing a new train system.

  • In this study, three kinds of cellulose fibers to crack reduction performance were evaluated and the results are as follows. Plastic shrinkage cracking is evaluated by the relative crack area, at all levels between 0.9kg/m3 and 1.2kg/m3, except for UF0.9% of upto50% showed are duction compared with Plain. In according to recommended amount of fiber in each area of the crack HF0.9>CEL1.2>UF0.6 effect of the order was more effective. While the impact strength of UF and CEL fibers until the final destruction are about five times the number of falls, HF fiber count drop was 10-18 time.

  • Using one-range addition theorems for Slater type orbitals (STOs) and Coulomb-Yukawa like correlated interaction potentials (CIPs) introduced by the author, the series expansion formulae are derived for the multicenter multielectron integrals. The expansion coefficients occurring in these relations are presented through the overlap integrals of two STOs. The convergence of series expansion relations is tested by calculating concrete cases. The accuracy of the results is quite high for quantum number, screening constants and location of orbitals. The final results are especially useful in the calculation of multielectron properties for atoms and molecules when Hartree-Fock-Roothaan (HFR) and explicitly correlated methods are employed.

  • Ginseng jellies and candies were prepared by adding ginseng extracts as final concentration of 0.5%and1% for jellies and 0.7% for candies. Feeding experiments of the diets containing ginseng extract were carried out for evaluation in respects of growth rate, feed efficiency ratio, organ weight change, hematocrit value, and blood cholesterol content by feeding rats for 6 week. The results of ginseng supplemented diets were not significantly different from those for the control. Liver, spleen and kidney cells of ginseng products feeding rats appeared no abnormalities in comparison with the control rats.
