  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of melanoidins formed from black garlic (BG) after different thermal processing steps. The melanoidins formed from BG during thermal processing were produced in large amounts, and the initial (280 nm), intermediate (360 nm), and final stage product (420 nm) had similar tendencies. Compounds like degraded proteins, peptides, and phenolic acids were present in the melanoidins during thermal processing. All the melanoidin samples showed different absorptions in the UV-visible spectra, although these had similar shapes. Moreover, the carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen content of melanoidins formed from BG during thermal processing decreased initially, and then increased. However, the nitrogen content increased during thermal processing. As thermal processing progressed, the molecular weight of all the melanoidin samples showed increasing intensities, whereas the major peaks of each melanoidin sample had different retention times. Furthermore, the melanoidins formed from BG after different thermal processing steps contained -OH, -CH, amide I, and III groups. The crystallinity of the melanoidins was majorly formed at 31.58 and 43.62 (2θ).

  • Buckling and post-buckling Analysis of Ludwick type and modified Ludwick type elastic materials was carried out. Because the constitutive equation, or stress-strain relationship is different from that of linear elastic one, a new governing equation was derived and solved by 4th order Runge-Kutta method. Considered as a special case of combined loading, the buckling under both point and distributed load was selected and researched. The final solution takes distinguished behavior whether the constitutive relation is chosen to be modified or non-modified Ludwick type as well as linear or non-linear. We also derived strain energy function for non-linear elastic constitutive relationship. By doing so, we calculated the criterion function which estimates the stability of the equilibrium solutions and determines critical buckling load for non-linear cases. We applied this theory to the constitutive relationship of fabric, which also is the non-linear equation between the applied moment and curvature. This results has both technical and mathematical significance.

  • In the course of insurance claim administration, medical experts' opinions are called medical claim reviews. They are classified into two main categories: medical verification and counsel for claim staff. Medical verification compare between product coverage and the insured's physical condition. Medical counsel for claim staff is advice for claim staff when they have a question about medical knowledge to make a claim decision. A common example of medical verification is insurance coding of pituitary apoplexy. Some clinicians have insisted that the ICD coding of pituitary apoplexy is l63 of cerebral infarction, but the exclusion criteria of I code show that neoplasm is coded as C00 to D48. Thus, pituitary apoplexy must be coded as D33. An example of medical counsel for claim staff is interpretation of some medical conditions. It is divided into UCR(usual, customary, and reasonable) assessment, assessment of causality, and so on. Disability evaluation is another subject of medical counsel for claim staff. The final claim decision must be made by claim staff because only the claim staff have the authority of claim decision. Medical claims review is only an expert's opinion.

  • The final aim of our research project is a study on assessment of automatic steering system of ships in open seas. In order to achieve this aim, we need to know the characteristics of each component of the system, and also to know the characteristics of disturbance to ship dynamics. In this paper, we provide calculation method of irregular disturbance to ships in autopilot navigation in open seas, and also show calculation examples about two kinds of ship, ore carrier and fishing boat. The disturbance consists of irregular wave and random wind. The disturbance is calculated as equivalent yaw angular velocity. Each spectrum and time history of disturbance are reasonably evaluated. Further investigation concerning to performance index of autopilot system and energy loss related to automatic course keeping, will be dealt with in another paper.

  • In this research, we evaluate the performance for preventing frost damage at early age of mortar using variable cement and self-heating binder. Purpose of final research is preventing freezing and thawing by making the compressive strength 5MPa in 3days below zero temperature without heat curing. We compare the compressive strength of mortar and concrete using variable cements and self-heating binder in low temperature.

  • In case of construction of the final refuse disposal site on the ground where 20m soft clay layer is deposited, Sand Compaction Pile(SCP) was driven with a view to increase the strength and reduce the settlement when the reclaimed revetment intend to be constructed first in a short time. Field monitoring method is carried out in order to overcome the problems of settlement and stability in the construction of the reclaimed revetment and the assumed problems in the design of composite ground. In this paper the observed data from monitoring sections are analysed, fedback to the desigh and field, and compared with FEM analysis. Conclusions are as follow: in case of 70% replacement the use of modified soilparameters makes the FEM analysis of SCP possible. In case of 27% replacement, n(stress concentration ratio)=0.2-0.3, B(measured settleme reduction coefficient)=0.43 are evalated. Also, horizontal displacement is remarkably happened around the ground.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a new priority setting algorithm that considers the cross-impact of the future technology alternatives and that satisfies the final goal of the technology management through multi-hierarchy evaluation criteria. By combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model, which is a well-known priority setting model, and Cross Impact Analysis (CIA) model, which is a technological forecasting method that considers cross-impact among R&D Items, we developed an Integrated Cross-Impact Hierarchical (CIH) model, which sets the priority by considering technological forecasting and technology dependency simultaneously. A step-by-step numerical example of the model developed here is presented as backup of its practicality.

  • Design factors are very important and deterministic in determining the first impression of products and environment. The final 30 number of channel button were chosen as a design factors at the Audio Unit. Then, we made the 8 types of prototype. with combining the design factors for experiment. Subjects rated the SD(Semantic Differential) evaluation sheets which have the 30 adjectives after watching each prototype. With the evaluated values, we simulated to identify the relation between the design factors and the adjectives using Neural Network. As a results, we could abstract the affective adjectives on each 8 types. Therefore, this research suggested the possibilities that we can infer the optimal design factors and types using Neural Network, if adjectives were given.

  • In rheo forming process, slurry making is very important factor because the microstructure of slurry affects the quality of final products. To control the microstructure of slurry, slurry making by new rheo die casting was studied. In new rheocasting method, processes parameters are degree of overheat in molten metal, cooling condition, high frequency induction heating condition and cup temperature. Microstructures according to these parameters were observed. By image analysis, equivalent diameter and roundness of grain were investigated and discussed. To find out mechanical properties of grain controlled aluminum part by rheo die casting, tensile tests were carried out to the T6 heat treatment.

  • Recent years have seen advent of hot stamped parts made from laser-welded blanks of boron steels for structures requiring high crash energy absorption. However, the presence of Al-Si coating interfered with satisfactory mechanical characterizations after laser butt welding. In this study, laser ablation technology was considered in order to facilitate adequate mechanical characterization of the final hot-stamped panels.
