The effect of Mn and Ti contents in filler wire on the microstructure and mechanical property of weld metal has been investigated after hybrid welding with ultra fine grained (UFG) steel. The microstructure and distribution of alloy compositions at the top region of weld zone were quite different with those at the bottom region after hybrid welding. The bottom region of weld zone contained higher Mn and Ti contents, and consequently the hardness of bottom region was higher than that of top region. With the increase of Mn and Ti contents in filler wire, the volume percent of acicular ferrite in weld metal decreased, and the weld zone showed higher hardness and better impact property.
The lap Joint welding of 6K21 aluminum sheets by Nd:YAG laser were performed with an aluminum 5183 filler wire or without a filler wire. The porosity of laser welding beads were observed through an optical microscope and X-ray photography with various levels of welding speed and gap size. The porosity was observed in the gap between upper and lower sheet near a heat affected zone when autogenous welding. Decrease of welding speed and use of AA5183 filler wire reduced porosity significantly.
Laser welding is suitable for welding to the aluminum alloy sheet. In order to apply the aluminum laser welding to production line, parameters should be optimized. In this study, the optimal welding condition was searched through the genetic algorithm in laser welding of AA5182 sheet with AA5356 filler wire. Second-order polynomial regression model to estimate the tensile strength model was developed using the laser power, welding speed and wire feed rate. Fitness function for showing the performance index was defined using the tensile strength, wire feed rate and welding speed which represent the weldability, product cost and productivity, respectively. The genetic algorithm searched the optimal welding condition that the wire feed rate was 2.7 m/min, the laser power was 4 kW and the welding speed was 7.95 m/min. At this welding condition, fitness function value was 137.1 and the estimated tensile strength was 282.2 $N/mm^2$.
In automotive industry, light weight vehicle is one of issues because of the air pollution and the protection of environment. Therefore, automotive manufacturers have tried to adopt light materials such as aluminum alloy to production line. Aluminum welding using laser has some advantages high energy density and high productivity. It is very important to understand weld characteristic according to welding condition in order to determine the possibility of application to car body. In this study, Nd:YAG laser welding of 5182 aluminum alloy with filler wire AA5356 was carried out through experimental design according to wire feed rate, laser power and welding speed. Weld bead shape in terms of cross section photo, bead with, height of reinforcement and penetration depth and mechanical property in terms of tensile strength and formability was investigated. Analysis of variation (ANOVA) was performed to know the effect of weld parameter for weldability, laser power was statistically most significance factor of three variables.
Many automotive companies have tried to apply the aluminum alloy sheet to car body because reducing the car weight can improve the fuel efficiency of vehicle. In order to do that, sheet materials require of weldablity, formability, productivity and so on. Aluminum alloy was not easy to join these metals due to its material properties. Thus, the laser is good heat source for aluminum alloy welding because of its high heat intensity. However, the welding quality was not good by porosity, underfill, and magnesium loss in welded metal for AA5182 aluminum alloy. In this study, Nd:YAG laser welding of AA 5182 with filler wire AA 5356 was carried out to overcome this problem. The weldability of AA5182 laser welding with AA5356 filler wire was investigated in terms of tensile strength and Erichsen ratio. For full penetration, mechanical properties were improved by filler wire. In order to optimize the process parameters, model to estimate tensile strength by artificial neural network was developed and fitness function was defined in consideration of weldability and productivity. Genetic algorithm was used to search the optimal point of laser power, welding speed, and wire feed rate.
This study examines fracture characteristics of wire rope of 6$\times$37+FC 14mm B degree, Which has been widely used for the strength support for machinery, cranes and shipping. The examination Is based on the fellowing experimental conditions. Firstly, this study analyzes the effect of the strength of wlre rope. When number of broken wires is occuring at the level of 5%, 10% and 15% degree respectively in the following two cases:1) Case of broken down to each strand equally. 2) Case of broken down to one strand only. Secondly, this study analyzes the effect of corrosion on the strength of wire rope. Corrosion times are 72hours, 144hours and 216hours corrosion respectively under following conditions. 1) Case of only a corrosion without wire breaking. 2) Case of corrosion after 5% degree wire breaking to each strand equally. Some outcomes of these experiment are as follows. 1) From the of tension test, We can find that the ratio of strength reduction case of wire broke down to one strand concentrically is greater than that ratio case of broke down to each strand equally. 2) From the corrosion test, We can also find that the ratio of strength reduction case of corroded after 5% degree wire breaking to each strand equally Is greater than that ratio case of corroded without wire breaking. 3) After comparing theoretical fracture load of wires with experimental fracture load of wires, we can find the fracture load of the case of broken down to each strand equally is most similar to theoretical fracture load. 4) It is proposed that safety rules on wire rope in the Industrial safety and healthy labor of law have to change “breaking over 10% of number of wires in one strand of wire rope(excluded filler wire )”has to be replaced by“breaking over 10% of number of all wires in all strand of wire rope(excluded filler wire)”
In this study, wire was used as the filler material for the laser repair welding, and the phenomenon in which the supplied filler material was melted and beaded down into the specimen was examined with varying laser powers and welding speeds. The optimal processing condition was found to be the laser power of 1,300 W, the welding speed and feed wire supply speed of 0.5 ml/in and the defocused distances of +2mm. At this time, the heat input(E) was $65{\sim}75\;J/mm^2$, and no internal defect occurred. When repair welding was carried out as the optimal processing for the part that had an external defect with the radius of 2mm, the filler metal was melted, resulting in the volume smaller than the defect part and thus causing the part unfilled. Therefore, it was found to be necessary to carry out repair welding two to three times by multiple passes rather than does it only once by single pass.
The electrochemical reaction between lead borate glass frit doped with Sn metal filler and Ni-Cr wire of a J-type resistor during a term of Joule heating is investigated. The fusing behavior in which the Ni-Cr wire is melted is not observed for the control group but measured for the Sn-doped specimen under 30 V and 500 mA. The Sn-doped lead borate glass frit shows a fusing property compared with other metal-doped specimens. Meanwhile, the redox reaction significantly contributes to the fusing behavior due to the release of free electrons of the metal toward the glass. The electrons derived from the glass, which used Joule heat to reach the melting point of Ni-Cr wire, increase with increasing corrosion rate at interface of metal/glass. Finally, the confidence interval is 95 ± 1.959 %, and the adjusted regression coefficient, R in the optimal linear graph, is 0.93, reflecting 93% of the data and providing great potential for fusible resistor applications.
