A Study on the Development of a Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Composite for a Type 4 CNG Vessel (CNG용 Type 4 하이브리드 섬유 복합재 용기 개발에 대한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to develop and commercialize an on-board fuel storage system for CNG vehicles. A type 4 vessel is made of resin-impregnated continuous filament windings on a polyamide (PA6) liner. In particular, this study localized the PA6 liner's fabrication and development. To analyze the filament winding, a specimen test was performed, and the results were verified values obtained using finite element analysis. In this study, the filament winding and fibers were optimized for a 207 bar composite cylinder in a compressed natural gas vehicle.

  • Filament wound pressure vessels have been studied for the efficient design tool to consider the variation of fiber angles through-the thickness direction. Filament winding patterns were simulated from semi-geodesic fiber path equation to calculate fiber path on arbitrary surface. Finite element analyses were performed considering fiber angle variation in longitudinal and thickness directions by ABAQUS. For the finite element modeling of the pressure tank, the 3-dimensional layered solid element was utilized. From the stress results of pressure tanks, maximum stress criterion in transverse direction was applied to modify material properties for failed region. In the end of each load increment, resultant layer stresses were compared with a failure criterion and properties were reduced to 1/10 for a failed layer. Results of progressive failure analysis were compared with two experimental data.

  • Double boss type composite pressure bottles have been developed widely but single boss type had not because there are some difficulty in technical point. In this paper a research was performed to develop composite pressure vessel in conjunction with design, fabrication, and test. Fiber pattern and angles were decided by CADFIL software and they are [liner/$15^{\circ}$/$15^{\circ}$/$90^{\circ}$/$18^{\circ}$/$90^{\circ}$/$21^{\circ}$/$21^{\circ}$/$90^{\circ}$]. Fabrication of bottles was done by AEA's 5-axis filament winding machine. During fabrication fiber optic sensor were embedded to measure were behavior of structure at the applied internal pressure. Even though satisfied test results were not obtained, the experimental set-up of fiber optics showed the possibility for the application of filament wound vessels. PREPREG 제작 방식에 의한 압력용기(STEB)의 시험 및 고찰

  • 국내에서는 시도되지 않았던 조립식 맨드렐 및 prepreg 제작 방식을 적용하여 filament winding machine으로 압력 용기(STEB)를 제작, 음향 방출 측정 장비 및 strain gage 등을 부착한 수압 시험으로 압력용기의 구조적 건전성 예측 및 파열 압력을 측정하여 성능을 분석하였다. 동일한 winding pattern 및 조건하에 prepreg winding과 wet winding 방식을 적용하여 제작한 압력 용기의 성능을 비교하였고, prepreg winding의 설계 조건, 공정 변화를 통해 제작한 압력 용기의 파열 압력 및 형태를 분석하였다. 이러한 winding 조건들에 따라 제작된 압력용기는 최종적으로 PR(Performance ratio) 값을 산출하고, 이를 통하여 prepreg 제작 방식의 장단점, 제작에 필요한 설계 조건 및 기초 자료 등을 고찰하여 보았다.

  • 헬기 로터깃은 최초로 항공기의 일차구조물로 사용된 대형 복합재료구조물이다. 헬기 로터깃은 운용기간(service life)동안에 $10^{7}$이나 $10^{8}$의 high-cycle 피로환경을 경험가게 된다. 로터깃은 복합재료가 알맞게만 사용된다면 거의 무한대의 피로수명을 갖게된다고 알려져 있다.

  • The fiber reinforced composite material is widely used in the multi-industrial field where the weight reduction of the infrastructure is demanded because of their high specific modulus and specific strength. Pressure vessels using this composite material in comparison with conventional metal vessels can be applied in the field where lightweight and the high pressure is demanded from the defense and aerospace industry to rocket motor case due to the merits which are energy curtailment by the weight reduction and decrease of explosive damage precede to the sudden explosion which is generated by the pressure leakage condition. In this paper, for nonlinear finite element analysis of E-glass/epoxy filament winding composite pressure vessel receiving an internal pressure, the standard interpretation model is developed by using the ANSYS 5.7.1, the general commercial program, which is verified as the accuracy and useful characteristic of the solution based on Auto LISP and ANSYS APDL. Both the preprocessor for doing exclusive analysis of filament winding composite pressure vessel and postprocessor that simplifies result of analysis have been developed to help the design engineers.

Structural Analysis and Strain Monitoring of the Filament Wound Composite Motor Case used in KSR-III Rocket (KSR-III 삼단 복합재 연소관의 구조 해석 및 변형률 측정)

  • Filament wound structures such as pressure tanks, pipes and motor cases of rockets are widely used in the aerospace application. The determination of a proper winding angle and thickness is very important to decrease manufacturing difficulties and to increase structural efficiency. In this study, possible winding angles considering the slippage between a fiber and a mandrel surface are calculated using the semi-geodesic path equation. In addition, finite element analysis using ABAcUS are performed to predict the behavior of filament wound structures considering continuous change of winding angle along the dome part. The water-pressuring tests of 3rd stage motor case are performed to verify the analysis procedure. The strain gages are attached on the surface in the fiber direction. Progressive failure analysis is performed to predict the burst pressure and the weakest region of the motor case. The effect of reinforcement is also studied to increase its performance.

  • Carbon fiber/epoxy composites are typical brittle materials and have low impact properties. Recently, it is important to investigate impact characteristics of carbon fiber composites because of increasing use as automobile parts and high pressure hydrogen vessels of fuel cell electric vehicles for light weight. In this study, the low velocity impact properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites fabricated by a filament winding method are studied. The low velocity impact properties were measured by performing tests according to ASTM D7136. The low velocity impact simulations were carried out using commercial structural analysis software, Abaqus. The absorbed energy and the delamination shapes were compared between the experimental and simulation results. The numerical analysis method showed that the absorbed energy decreased with the reduced number of cohesive elements in the composite models.
