비기환(?氣丸)이 백혈병(白血病)과 임파종(淋巴腫) 환자(患者)에서 추출(抽出)한 암세포(癌細胞)에 미치는 항암효과(抗癌效果) (Antitumor Effects of Bigihwan on Tumor Cells derived from Leukemia and Lymphoma Patients)

  • Bigihwan which has been widely used in Oh-jug in oriental Medicine was investigated on its antitumor effect employing blood cancer cell lines. K 562 derived from human erytholeukemia, Raji from lymphoma and $MO_4$ from hlastogenic cancer were used in this study to see the analytical evaluation of Bigihwan' s antitumor effect using three different kinds of methods such as $^{3}H-thymidine$ up take assay. MTT assay and live cell counts by Trypan blue assay. The result obtained are as follows. 1. When higher than 10% Bigihwan was treated. inhibitory effect of tumor killing action was observed showing the increasing order of $MO_4$, K 562 and Raji(Fig. 3). 2. When 1 to 5% of Bigi-hwan was treated, 4 to 30% of tumor cell survival was observed according to various blood tumor cell lines suggesting that antitumor effect of Bigi-hwan was different as the characteristics of tumor cells showing 70 to 95% cell killing effent(Fig. 4). 3. Compared the survivals of cells by relative scales though the initial cpm was variable because of different cell growth rate. Raji was most effective being killed 95% by the treatment of 1% Bigihwan while Raji and K562 showed 93% by 5% Bigihwan.(Fig. 5) 4. The survival rate of Raji derived from Burkitt lymphoma was rather increased to 2.3 times when Bigihwan concentration was increased from 1 to 10% lmplying of refraining from over use of this anticancer drug. specially to lymphoma patients(Fig. 5). 5. Bigihwan was most effective to K 562 and then $MO_4$ showing 95% tumor cell death by using 1% of this anticancer drug while it was least effective to Raji showing only 68% of tumor cell death(Fig.7). 6. Judging from the all the analytical methods used in this study, through all different three tumor cell lines. Bigihwan was most effective to K 562 derived from human erythroleukemia.

Studies on the Fruiting Phase of Rape Under the Different Cultural Conditions

  • The fruiting phase of rape under transplanting and direct-sowing conditions has been studied at Mokpo during the 2 years period from 1970 to 1971. Two varieties, Yudal and Miyuki were used in this study. The planting space and sowing time were also incorporated into this study. The results could be summarized as follows: 1. The plant tape of rape was nearly umbrella-shaped of all, but has changed to the laid elliptical-shaped, broadly ovate and spindle-shaped under different varieties and cultural conditions in the plant diagram(Fig. 2). 2. The length of the primary branches for each nodes had a tendency to the symmetric apical curve with the apex at the upper 10-12th node in the transplanting. but to the upper bias apical curve with the apex at the upper 5-7th node in the dense-sowing(Fig.3). 3. The ear of main stem was longer, more pods, heavier 1, 000 grains and more grain yield than ear of primary branches of all, Especially, as for that, the rate of yield constitution per plant in the direct-sowing was higher than in the transplanting(Fig. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9). 4. The ear-length of the primary branches for each nodes had a tendency to the relatively slowly apical curve with the apex at the upper 3-4th node in the transplanting, but to the lower bias apical curve with the apex at the upper 2nd node in the dense-sowing. Especially, the possibility of growth at the lower ears was few in the early variety (Fig. 4). 5. The number of pod per ear on the primary branches for each nodes had a .tendency to the curve of ear-length with the apex at the upper 5-8thnode in the transplanting and at the upper 4-5th node in the dense-sowing (Fig. 5). Accordingly, a high positive correlation was found between the ear-length and number of pod per ear (Table 2) 6. In the transplanting, the high rate of effective ear was from the upper nods to the 12th node, but below the 16-17th nodes was ineffective. However, in the early dense-sowing the high rate of effective was to the 7th node. but below the 10th nodes was. ineffective. Especially, in the early variety has difficult to secure of poi-numbers for ineffective of the lower nodes(Fig. 6.). 7. The density of pod setting of the ear of main stem was the longest of all ears, and the lower nods were, the shorter it became. That had a tendency to the evidently apical growth. However. in the early variety, it was lengthened according to growth of ear-length(Fig.7). 8. The pod-length of the medium nodes was longer than the upper and lower, and the possitive correlation between pod-length and number of grain per poi was very high(Table 2.). 9. In the grain yield per node of primary branches, the most yielding node of transplanting was the upper 9th node, of dense-sowing 4-5th node(Fig 8.), and the possitive correlation between grain yield per node and ear-length or number of pod per ear was very high(Table 2). 10. The grain yield of ear of main stem was higher than that of primary branches in the percentage of dependence for grain yield per plant. The limint node of 50% of dependence to cumulative grain yield per plant was the upper 7-8th node in tranplanting, in the early dense-sowing 4-5th node, and in tke late dense-sowing-3th node(Fig. 9). 11. In the weight of 1, 000 grains the lower nodes were, the lighter it becames in dense-sowing. Therefore, this was also lighter than in the transplanting to the (Fig. 10.). 12. The oil content of grain at the medium nodes was low in the early variety, but at the ear of main stem and upper 1st node it was extremely high(Fig. 11.).

난지과실을 이용한 식초제조 (Vinegar Production from subtropical Fruits)

  • Optimum processing conditions for vinegar fermentation using fig, pear and persimmon were determined. Alcohol contents in the fermentatio broth of crushed fruits of fig, pear and persimmon were 7.5%, 5.1% and 6.8%, respectively. Alcohol contents increased up to 14.3~15.1% by adding 24% of sugar to the fruit juices. The total acidity of 7.04%, 3.30% and 3.66% were obtained for fig, pear and persimmon, respectively, through acetic acid fermentation of fruit juices containing 8% ethanol. Acetic acid yield increased by shaking during fermentation for pear and persimmon broth. Acetic acid yield increased 1.80~1.92 times by adding 0.5% of yeast extract to the fermentation broth of pear and persimmon. After fermentation, each fruit vinegar was clarified up to 93.1~97.4 of light transmittance by using 0.6% of kaki shibu for 4 days at 1$0^{\circ}C$. After aging for 60 days at 1$0^{\circ}C$, the acidity of fruit vinegar decreased slightly. Tannin content of persimmon vineger was remarkably higher than the other, while light absorbance of pear vinegar was higher than the other vinegars. Acetic acid was identified as the main volatile organic acid in the fruit vinegars, while propionic, isobutyric and isovaleric acids were identified as the minors. The content of non-volatile organic acids in the pear vinegar was higher than that in the persimmon vinegar. Sensory evaluation results indicate that the fig vinegar was preferred to the pear vinegar in the aspects of color, flavor and overall acceptability, but the fig vinegar had a strong background taste. Sensory scores of the persimmon vinegar increased significantly by pasteurization, but those of the fig and pear vinegars did not by pasteurization.

Chemical Composition of Some Tropical Foliage Species and Their Intake and Digestibility by Goats

  • The chemical composition and water extractable dry matter (DM) of foliages from Erythrina (Erythrina variegata), Fig (Ficus racemosa), Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill), Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) and Mango (Mangifera indica) and the feed intake, digestibility and N retention when feeding these foliages were studied in two experiments. In Experiment 1, 12 male goats, 3.5 months old and weighing 14.6 kg, were randomly allocated to a diet consisting of one of the foliages in a change-over design with three periods. The foliages were offered ad libitum at the level of 130% of the average daily feed intake. The Erythrina foliage had a low content of DM and condensed tannins (CT) and a high concentration of crude protein (CP) in leaves plus petioles (193 g/kg DM) and stem, while the Mango foliage had a low CP (69 g/kg DM) and high DM content. The other foliages were intermediate. High content of CT was found in the leaves plus petioles of Jackfruit foliage and in the stem of Fig and Mango foliage. There was a difference in feed intake, nutrient intake, apparent digestibility and N retention between the foliages, with Erythrina, Jackfruit and Kapok foliage being significantly higher in these parameters than Fig, Jujube and Mango foliage. The water extractable DM could be used to estimate N retention, but not DM digestibility in this study. In Experiment 2, 4 male goats weighing 13.4 kg and 6 months old were allocated to a 4${\times}$4 Latin square design. The treatments were: water spinach ad libitum and Fig, Jujube or Mango foliage ad libitum +0.5% of BW as water spinach DM. Feed intake, apparent digestibility and N retention were not significantly different among the foliage diets, but higher than for water spinach alone (p<0.05). Supplementation with water spinach to a diet consisting of low quality foliages such as Fig, Jujube and Mango, increased DM and CP intake, apparent digestibility and N retention, compared to feeding these foliages as sole feeds.

중소형선(中小型船)의 기관부중량추정(機關部重量推定) (Estimation of Machinery Weights of the Medium and Small-sized Ships)

  • For preliminary estimation of ships' machinery weights, many papers giving well-judged data and discussions for rational method of estimation, such as [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], are available, however, they are mostly concerned with large ships propelled by power more than about 2, 000 horsepower. Regarding the medium and small-sized ships, as far as the author is aware, fragmental data and vague discussions found in various technical literature are the all available. In this paper, available data concerned with machinery weights of commercial ships propelled by direct-drive diesel plants of power below 3, 000 horsepower with single screw propeller are collected and analysed to obtain systematic data Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 as weight to power ratio versus power per shaft diagrams together with suplementary data Fig. 1 and Fig. 3. Influences of various factor such as revolutions per minute, mean effective pressure, type and construction of the main units on machinery weights are also investigated in detail to give a better guidance for logical and rational utlization of the proposed diagrams in preliminary estimation of machinery weights.

목재(木材)에 있어서 못의 정적인발저항(靜的引拔低抗)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Studies on the Static Withdrawal Resistance on Nail in Wood)

  • 못의 보지력(保持力)인 정적인발저항(靜的引拔抵抗)에 관(關)하여 Pinus Koraiensis Sieb. et. Zucc. 재(材)와 Larix leptolepis Gord.재(材)의 두 수종(樹種)에 대하여 못 박은 후(後) 시간별(時間別) 차이(差異), 재(材)의 함수율별(含水率別) 및 Radial, Tangential, Longitudinal, 등(等)의 재(材)의 방향별(方向別)에 대해 실험(實驗)한 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1) 못을 박은 후(后) 인발저항(引拔抵抗)은 Larix leptolepis Gord. 재(材)에서는 Tangential이 최대(最大)였다.(Fig 3.) Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et. Zucc. 재(材)는 Tangential이나 Radial의 인발저항(引拔抵抗)은 차이(差異)가 없다.(Fig 2) 2) Longitudinal의 인발저항(引拔抵抗)은 두 수종(樹種) 모두 최소(最小)이다. (Fig 2, 3.) 3) 일정(一定)한 시간후(時間后)에는 Radial 및 Tangential는 두 수종(樹種)이 모두 감소(減少)한다. 4) 재(材)의 함수율(含水率)이 증가함에 따라 두 수종(樹種)이 인발저항(引拔抵抗)은 직선적(直線的)으로 감소(減少)한다. (Fig 4, 5) 5. Larix leptoleis Gord. 재(材)의 인발저항(引拔抵抗)의 감소상태(減少狀態)은 섬유포화점(纖維飽和点) 부근(附近)에서 변곡점으로 나타났다. (Fig 5)

병원내에서 분리된 메티실린내성 황색포도상구균에 대한 무화과잎 추출물의 항미생물효과 (Synergistic Antibacterial Activity of Fig (Ficus carica) Leaves Extract Against Clinical Isolates of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

  • 무화과는 뽕나무 과에 속하며 세계에서 가장 오래된 과일 중 하나이고, 국내에서는 주로 소화장애, 염증성궤양 그리고 가려움증 등에 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 무화과 잎을 메탄올로 추출한 후 임상진료실에서 분리된 메티실린 내성 황색포도상구균(MRSA)에 대한 항균활성을 보았다. 그 결과 분리된 MRSA 1-20에서 최소억제농도 (MIC)는 2.5 mg/mL에서 20 mg/mL 농도로 측정되었으며, 최소살균농도(MBC)는 5 mg/mL에서 20 mg/mL 농도로 관찰되었다. Oxacillin이나 ampicillin과 병용투여 시 4-8배 이상의 MIC/MBC농도가 감소되었으며, FICI 값도 0.0375-0.5이하로 병용효과를 나타내었다. 더불어 메탄올추출물 단독 사용시 보다 항생제와 병용투여 시 빠른 사멸효과를 보였다. 결론적으로 무화과 잎이 메티실린 내성 황색포도상구균에 항균활성을 나타냄을 확인하였으며, 메티실린 내성 황색포도상구균 감염에 천연 치료제로서의 가능성을 확인하였다.

노년기여성의 배면만곡도 감소효과를 위한 의복디자인 연구 (A Study on the Cloth Design for Elderly Women to Mask Their Dorsal Curvature)

  • The author has studied the effect of clothes design to mask the dorsal curvature that is one of the commonest changes in elderly women. Body measurements including the body type and the status of dorsal curvature were perfor-med on 153 women of over 60 years of age, and then a body form to fit to the mean measure-ments was made to evaluate the effects of various designs to it. With 31 pattern designs modified by changing in their slash lines and gathers using darts, the diminishing effect of the rounded back were evaluated by means of sensory test. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: I . Results from the body measurements 1) The mean body type in elderly women was that of obesity. 2) With the advancement of age, the angle to indicate the degree of dorsal curvature as well as the angle to indicate the posture are increased. II . Concerning to the clothes design to diminish the shape of dorsal curvature 1) Among the designs by the position of darts, the basic pattern (Fig. 5-1-(1)) showed the best effect to mask the shape of dorsal curvature. 2) Out of the applied designs of princess lines, that in which the slash line is pointing toward the shoulder point (Fig. 5-2-(1)) seemed to be most effective. 3) What has angled princess line (Fig. 5-3-(1)) had the most diminishing effect among the waist darts and armhole princess lines. 4) Among the V-shaped designs, the slashed at the shoulder point (Fig. 5-4-(1)) had the best effect to lessen the shape of the dorsal cuuature. 5) Wider angle yoke had better effect to the narrow angle one among the designs with straight yoke, and that with downward direction (Fig. 5-5-(1)) showed the best effect. 6) Between straight wide angle yoke and curved yoke, that of curved one with downward direction (Fig. 5-6-(1)) had better effect as far as the masking effect of dorsal curvature is concerned. 7) Gathers around the neck showed better effect to those around the shoulder, and the more amount of gathers (Fig. 5-7-(1)), there was better effect. 8) The design with midline gathers at the level of horizontal slash line of armhole (Fig. 5-8-(1)) showed better effect to that with seperated gathers. 9) In case of design with gathers at the horizontal line of armhole, it showed the better effect with less amount of gathers in midline ones, but with more amount in the side ones. 10) Considering all 7 different designs with better effect in covering the shape of dorsal curvature, it was evident that the design with gathers was far better than the design with application of slash lines.

배, 키위, 무화과, 파인애플, 파파야에 존재하는 단백질 분해효소의 특성 비교 (The Properties of Proteolytic Enzymes in Fruits (Pear, Kiwifruit, Fig, Pineapple and Papaya))

  • 본 연구에서는 육류연화작용이 있다고 알려진 과일인 배, 키위, 무화과, 파인애플, 파파야에 존재하는 단백질 분해효소의 특성을 상대 비교함으로써 조리에 응용할 수 있는 자료로써 이용하고자 했다. 실험 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 각 과일에 존재하는 단백질 분해 조효소의 최적 온도를 보면 배, 무화과, 파인애플이 6$0^{\circ}C$에서 최고활성을 나타냈고 40~7$0^{\circ}C$에서 비교적 높은 활성이 있었고, 파파야는 6$0^{\circ}C$에서 최대 활성을 보이고 40~8$0^{\circ}C$ 범위에서 넓은 범위에서 높은 활성을 나타냈다. 한편 키위는 4$0^{\circ}C$에서 최대활성을 보이고 7$0^{\circ}C$까지 안정된 높은 활성을 보여주었다. 2. 단백질 분해 조효소가 나타내는 최적 pH를 비교해 보면, 배, 무화과, 파인애플, 파파야는 최적 pH가 7.0 부근이고 pH 5.0~8.0에서 높은 활성을 나타내다가 pH 8.5 이후 급격히 활성이 떨어졌다. 한편 키위는 최고 활성이 pH 3.0에서 관찰되었으며 이는 pH 4.0에서 급격히 감소했다가 다시 증가하여 다른 과일의 활성도와 비슷한 pH 5.0~8.0에서 다시 높은 활성을 나타냈다. 3. 다량 조리시 사용할 수 있는 과육의 단위 부피당 총역가를 비교해 본 결과, pineapple>kiwifruit>papaya>fig>pear로서 나타났다.

장정결제 복용 후 발생한 급성 복통 (Acute Abdominal Pain after Ingestion of Bowel Cleansing Agent for Colonoscopy)

  • 42세 여자가 갑작스러운 복통으로 소화기내과 외래를 방문하였다. 환자는 당일 건강검진 대장내시경이 예정되어 있었으며 전날 밤 장정결제인 피코라이트 산(sodium picosulfate hydrate 10 mg, magnesium oxide 3.5 g, citric acid 12 g; Pharmbio Korea Inc., Seoul, Korea)을 물에 녹이지 않고 그냥 복용한 후부터 증상이 발생하였다. 신체 검사에서 복부는 부드러웠으며 압통은 없었다. 즉시 시행한 상부위장관 내시경 검사에서 황색의 두터운 가피가 덮여 있는 다발성 병변이 위체부 대만 및 저부에서 관찰되었다(Fig. 1A). 가피는 생검 겸자를 이용해 쉽게 벗겨졌으며(Fig. 1B), 가피를 제거한 후 급성 출혈성 미란 병변들이 확인되었다(Fig. 1C). 이 환자에서 관찰된 위병변의 진단은 무엇인가?
