Background: This study aims to derive the characteristics of each work type for industrial radiography based on empirical evidence through expert advice and a survey of radiation workers of various types of industrial radiography. Materials and Methods: According to a Korean report, work types of industrial radiography are classified into indoor tests, underground pipe tests, tests in a shielded room (radiographic testing [RT] room test), outdoor field tests, and outdoor large structure tests. For each work type, exposure geometry and radiation sources were mainly identified through the expert advice and workers' survey as reliable empirical evidence. Results and Discussion: The expert advice and survey results were consistent as the proportion of the work types were high in the order of RT room test, outdoor large structure test, underground pipe test, outdoor field test, and indoor test. The outdoor large structure test is the highest exposure risk work type in the industrial radiography. In most types of industrial radiography, radiation workers generally used 192Ir as the main source. In the results of the survey, the portion of sources was high in the order of 192Ir, X-ray generator, 60Co, and 75Se. As the exposure geometry, the antero-posterior geometry is dominant, and the rotational and isotropic geometry should be also considered with the work type. Conclusion: In this study, through expert advice and a survey, the external exposure characteristics for each work type of industrial radiography workers were derived. This information will be used in the reconstruction of organ dose for health effects assessment of Korean radiation workers.
This study aims to cultivate specialized professionals equipped with practical skills essential for compliance with textile environmental regulations and analysis of harmful substances. This is achieved through the revision and restructuring of educational programs targeting workers in the chemical analysis industry. To address this, a survey was conducted among chemical industry workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to gauge the demand for educational programs. Specifically, a survey was conducted among 240 SME workers who participated in the 2022 education curriculum to identify their educational needs and specific requirements in the field. The research findings indicate that the majority of SMEs recognize the necessity of education in the chemical field and express a strong willingness to engage in the curriculum. Particularly emphasized was the need to enhance practical skills crucial for compliance with chemical environmental regulations. Consequently, adjustments were made to the curriculum, reallocating time and increasing the duration of practical training. This enables trainees to directly operate analysis machines and interpret results. Additionally, in response to further educational demands reflected by survey participants, the curriculum was expanded from five to six courses, with adjustments made to existing educational programs. Based on these research outcomes, practical educational methods tailored to SME requirements are proposed, aiming to bridge the gap between regulatory compliance and industry needs.
This study started with concerns for corporate philanthropy that is emerging as an alternative for resource development of social work field in Korea. However, corporate philanthropy is not operating as an accomplished conception yet, but as a type of the practical discourse. Therefore corporate philanthropy is interpreted a multiplicity of meanings is used ambiguously in social work practice field. This is because theoretical reviews on the conceptual thinking of corporate philanthropy are scant and is in need of empirical inquires into conceptual perception of social workers who uses this concept as a stakeholder to corporate philanthropy. After analyzing the data using Q methodology, the result shows that social workers' major perception patterns on corporate philanthropy perspective consists of three patterns; Win-Win Partnership, Social-obligation, Strategic Materialism. These patterns are classified by the dimension of 'classical view', 'socio-economic view', 'modern view' and 'philanthrophic view'. This result will attribute to develop theories, social work practice program and social worker' training program related corporate philanthropy. And to give facilities for lucid communication among practice and theory in social work field as it materializes the explicit conception of corporate philanthropy that is understood ambiguously in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to find out how to develop the related competency by exploring the service convergence experience of social workers in the social welfare field. For this purpose, social workers were organized into focus groups to reflect various fields and experiences of the social welfare, and the focus group interview method was implemented. The results of this study are as follows: First, research participants who are social workers of the field recognized positive effects and experiential limitations in the experience of providing convergent services through collaboration with various professionals. Second, research participants experienced the necessity of convergence services, while being asked for various roles in the extended area. Finally, research participants propose a plan to develop competencies required in social welfare environment where a convergent approach is required. Based on the results of this study, it was prepared that basic data for the development of practical competency in the social welfare field.

Objective: The Korean Industrial Hygiene Association(KIHA) held a forum on "Improvement of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) regulations for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency in the field" at its 2018 Winter Conference(February 2, 2018). This article summarized the major consensus opinions developed at the forum. Methods: Since the initial implementation of the MSDS system, the contents of the system have changed and related studies have been reviewed. Before the forum, online questionnaires were developed and opinions on the effectiveness of MSDS program were collected from various strata of the occupational health field. We also summarized the key opinions of companies, trade unions, experts, and government officials as discussed at the forums. Results: A total of 265 opinions were gathered through online questionnaire surveys from safety and health managers, trade unions, government officials, and health professionals. The results of online surveys and discussions showed some differences of opinion, but it was a common perception that the current MSDS system is not working effectively in the workplace. It was considered necessary to strengthen MSDS education and to make it easier for workers to understand and deliver the necessary information. In addition, it was confirmed that the supply of and education on MSDS to small- and medium-sized enterprise workers is not being well executed. In particular, MSDS training for subcontract workers should be carried out under the responsibility of the contracting employer. Conclusions: In order for the MSDS system to serve more effectively in the field in the future, it needs to be improved in terms of the effective education and training considering the type of industry and employment.

This is an exploratory study on the status of the social work field practicum at a cyber university. The purpose is to investigate the current situation and improvement plan of the social work field practicum. A qualitative analysis was conducted with 11 professors who have instructed the social work field practicum at cyber universities. The social work field practicum based on the experiences of the professors is investigated, and this paper analyzes the status according to students, schools, practitioners, and institutions. In order to improve the quality of the social work field practicum, factors for improvement were analyzed through the efforts of students, schools, the Korean social workers' association, institutional improvements, and social welfare instructors. The results of the study are as follows. Students, schools, and training organizations should recognize the importance of the social work field practicum and must strive for systematic and consistent education. It is also important to remember that a social worker is not a professional with simple qualifications, but an expert with a philosophy, values, and ideologies. The direction for improvement in the social work field practicum is as follows. When constructing a social welfare curriculum, the school should have a realistic curriculum and teaching method that can enhance the sense of the field. The student should not be qualified as a social worker only as a vague investment for the future, but should have the professional ability to serve clients as a social worker and to give professional help to clients, considering the best welfare service for human beings. Institutions should provide a place for students to integrate theory and practice in vital social welfare experiences as social workers. The Republic of Korea is now facing an age with one million social workers. In order to open the future of social welfare in Korea, we need united endeavors with government that can develop students as pre-social workers and establish universities, institutions, and their systems for a substantial social work field practicum.
The purpose of this study was to survey working conditions of women workers. We conducted a field survey of 504 manufacturing company with many women working from May 13 to June 29, 2002. We focused on only 3 categories of metal, textile and electronics industry. The result were as follows : 1. Subjects were constituted metal 27.0%, textile 37.9% and electronics industry 35.1%. Size distribution was small scale(<50 workers) 38.1%, medium(50-299 workers) 50.2% and large(${\geq}300$ workers) company 11.7%. Women workers' proportion was 43.6% of total workers, 63.8% of total contractors. 2. A medical examination enforcement of contractors workers was very poor in comparison with that of employees(p<0.001). 3. A 53.8% of total companies have conducted shiftwork system and 2-crew 2-shift(12 hours shift system) ranked first, 56.1%(151 companies). 4. Only 61.3% of total companies conducted more than 90 days as legal standard of a maternity leave and only 2.6% of total companies had a day nursery. In conclusion, many strategies for women workers are needed by companies and government. For example, the raising of understanding about maternity protection, social support insurancing of woman worker and occupational health system improvement for contractors and small size companies.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health behavior of shipbuilding company workers in some regions in a bid to provide information on the oral health plans for industrial fields. Methods : The subjects in this study were 310 workers in 10 shipbuilding companies and suppliers in Jeolla Namdo Province, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted. Results : 1. Concerning general information about the subjects who participated in the research, gender was possessed 94.8% by men and 5.2% by women. Age was the largest in 31~40 years old with 44.2%. Marital status was the largest in the married with 64.5%. It was the largest in under high school graduate with 71.9% for academic background, in 2,000,000 won~3,000,000 won with 49.0% for monthly family income, and in cooking with 33.9% for work field. 2. Research subjects' toothbrushing time was indicated to be the largest in after having breakfast. It was indicated to be twice a day with 41.3% for toothbrushing frequency. 90.3% of the respondents are not using auxiliary oral hygiene devices. 3. Recognition on periodontal health status was found larger in workers whose response was that their own periodontal health status is 'healthy' than workers who responded that their status is 'not healthy.' Workers, who don't have subjective symptom on periodontal status, were indicated to be larger. 4. Ratio of subjects with tooth scaling experience accounted for 59.7%. The ratio of tooth scaling experience was indicated to be different depending on academic background and monthly family income. Conclusions : Academic credential, monthly family income and the line of work were identified as the main factors to affect oral health care of the shipbuilding workers. Oral health education and dynamic implementation of corporate oral health promotion which are designed to meet the needs of workers are required.

Objectives: There have been many studies on exposure assessment of workers at companies using asbestos as a raw material and at sites of the removal of materials containing asbestos. However, no research has been carried out on the asbestos exposure of workers in industries involving asbestos-containing waste, such as workers at collection and transportation service companies, mid-treatment companies(solidification of asbestos-containing waste), and landfill sites. The objective of this study was to assess the asbestos exposure concentrations of workers in industries handling waste containing asbestos. Methods: For this study, we carried out field investigations at 15 companies: seven collection and transportation service companies, three mid-treatment companies, and five final treatment companies(landfill sites). We took both personal and area samples. Results: The range of asbestos exposure levels of workers handing asbestos-containing wastes at collection, mid-treatment, and landfill companies were 0.000 fibers/cc-0.009 fibers/cc, 0.000 fibers/cc-0.038 fibers/cc, and 0.000 fibers/cc-0.024 fibers/cc, respectively. Conclusions: The asbestos exposure levels of workers at mid-treatment companies were higher than those at collection and transportation companies and at final treatment companies. In the case of collection and transportation workers, the possibility of exposure to levels exceeding those found in the present study is not particularly high considering the characteristics of the work. However, in the case of intermediate or final disposal workers, it is considered that there is a possibility of exposure to levels above those found in this study.
Purpose: This study investigated the Korean social workers’ burn-out factors and personal traits in hospice and palliative care field, and also examined the effect and correlation between their professionality, social support and supervision. Methods: Data (N=46) from 46 social workers working at hospice and palliative care field were collected, and the data were analyzed for the inferential statistics using t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression with the SPSS 12.0 program. Results: General factors of the burn-out were age and work experience. The effect of the organization environment is greatly dependant on social support and supervision, and the burn-out were protected when workers got an emotional support from their family. For the workers with supervision, the less negative feeling, the better for the burn-out protection. Furthermore, the low burn-out was thought about when professional organization, self regulation, job vocation and autonomy were utilized. Regression analysis needed that the burn-out were protected well when individual autonomy among expertise was guaranteed. As for social support, vertical support was able to protect physical burn-out. Conclusion: The training program for social workers in hospices and palliative care field is essential to reduce and prevent the burn-out. Hospice should be more activated and a training program with up-to-date knowledge and information should be adopted.
