  • In a conventional speed sensorless stator flux-oriented(SFO) induction motor drive system, when the estimated speed is transformed into the sample-data model using the first-forward difference approximation, the sampled data model has a modeling error which, in turn, produces an error in the rotor speed estimation. The error included in the estimated speed is removed by the use of a low pass filter (LPF). As the result, the delay of the estimated speed occurs in transients by the use of the LPF This paper investigates the problem of a conventional speed sensorless SFO system due to the delay of estimated speed in the filed weakening region. In addition, this paper proposes a method to estimate exactly speed by using Luenberger observer, The proposed method is verified by experiment with a 5-hp induction motor drive.

  • To control the torque of the IPMSM, a lookup table is generally used in control system because of its nonlinear characteristics. However, the method of generating the lookup table data has the disadvantage of having difficulty accurately analyzing the changing parameters, generating the current or magnetic flux map is complicated and long test time taken due to motor temperature differences at each test points. In this paper, on the basis of the electromagnetic field design of IPMSM, we devised an electromagnetic field-based magnetic flux map model that can compensate for the pre-generated magnetic flux map through a quick and simple test.

  • This study focuses on the effects of using open stator slots in an interior permanent magnet traction motor with a magnetic slot wedge design in order to increase the power density at its base speed. In addition, such a configuration reduces the torque ripple under field-weakening conditions. Five different wedge models were selected, each of which was evaluated using a finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the initial model, we designed magnetic slot wedges for maximum back-EMF and minimum cogging torque. In addition, the d-q axis inductance was slightly altered due to the magnetic slot wedges. Finally, we analyzed the performance of a traction machine under field weakening control. Moreover, we have outlined the requirements for an ideal magnetic slot wedge design.

  • Samsung Electronics has developed high performance velocity and position controller for induction motors and succeeded in mass production for first time in Lorea. Dynamic performance and final control accuracy of the controller are equivalent to those of AC servo motor controller. At present we adopted the controller as spindle motor drive for Samsung CNC systems and expect its wide use in industry as general purpose velocity and position controller for induction motor.

  • To predict efficiency of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM) and to cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in the IPMSM, accurate iron analysis of the IPMSM is very important at the motor design stage. In this paper, we present the method to estimate the iron loss for the IPMSM considering the condition of field weakening control and harmonics of flux density waveform.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. The paper is proposed maximum torque control of IPMSM for high speed drive. The control method is applicable over the entire speed range and considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $^i{_d}$ for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system for high speed drive, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by experiment.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. • In this paper, speed control of IPMSM drives for the next generation domestic high speed railway system using multilevel inverter is presented. Multilevel inverter is suitable for the high-voltage high-capacity motor drive system because noise and switching frequency of power semiconductor devices is reduced. For the speed control of IPMSM using multilevel inverter, maximum torque control is applied in a constant torque region, and field weakening control is applied in a constant power region. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink are developed. Finally the designed system is verified by simulation and their characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.

  • This paper proposes a interpolation error compensation method for PMSM torque control. In PMSM torque control, two dimensions look-up table(2D-LUT) is used for current reference generation due to its stable and robust torque control performance. However, the stored data in 2D-LUT is discreet, it is impossible to store all over the operation range. To reduce the reference generation error in this region, the 2D-Interpolation method is conventionally used, however, this method still remains the error affected by the number of stored data. Besides, in the case stored by fixed unit, this error is increased in field weakening region because of the small number of stored data. In this paper, analyzing the cause of this interpolation error, and compensating the method to reduce this error. Proposed method is verified by the simulation and experiment.
