  • Although standards related to falling stone facilities are established in Korea, the absorption energy of the rockfall prevention net is evaluated from the passage of rockfall and destruction of the rockfall prevention net on field test. The existing PVC coating net does not sufficiently suppress the rockfall load and tears frequently occur, and a high-strength wire rockfall net was developed to prevent. In this study, the performance was analyzed through field tests of the existing PVC coating net and the developed high-strength rockfall net (1,000 MPa, 2,000 MPa).

  • In this paper, we predict a maximum electric field strength of WCDMA base station using a pilot channel in a code domain. In order to verify the feasibility of our method, we compare our predicted value on a self-designed test base station with a general electric field strength measurement value at a full-traffic load condition and with a calculated value by a ray-tracing technique. Predicted results show above 90 % agreement with the general measurement and calculation values. We also show that our prediction method can be applied to electric field measurement on a real operating base station. Therefore, it is concluded that our prediction method be an effective method to measure a maximum electric field strength in a base station inspection test.

  • NMR researches are required high field and high homogeneous super-conducting magnet. Thus superconducting magnets for NMR applications are designed with minimization of coil winding volume satisfied constraints such as field strength, field homogeneity, etc. In this paper, we are discussed optimal design of high field super-conducting magnet for NMR applications. For a design example, we designed unshielded superconducting magnet for 600MHz NMR spectrometer with 100mm room temperature bore size and obtained 14.1011[T] field strength and 1.33 ppm field homogeneity.

  • Concrete's compressive strength is widely studied in order to understand many qualities and the grade of the concrete mixture. Conventional civil engineering tests involve time and resources consuming laboratory operations which results in the deterioration of concrete samples. Proposing efficient non-destructive models for the prediction of concrete compressive strength will certainly yield advancements in concrete studies. In this study, the efficiency of using radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) which is not common in this field, is studied for the concrete compressive strength prediction. Complementary studies with back propagation neural network (BPNN), which is commonly used in this field, have also been carried out in order to verify the efficiency of RBFNN for compressive strength prediction. A total of 13 input parameters, including novel ones such as cement's and fly ash's compositional information, have been employed in the prediction models with RBFNN and BPNN since all these parameters are known to influence concrete strength. Three different train: test ratios were tested with both models, while different hidden neurons, epochs, and spread values were introduced to determine the optimum parameters for yielding the best prediction results. Prediction results obtained by RBFNN are observed to yield satisfactory high correlation coefficients and satisfactory low mean square error values when compared to the results in the previous studies, indicating the efficiency of the proposed model.

  • In recent years. the concept of the modified compression field theory (MCFT) was develped and applied to the analysis of reinforced concrete beams subjected to shear, moment, and axial load. Although too complex for regular use in the shear design or beams. the procedure has value in its ability to provide a rational method of anlysis and design for reinforced concrete members. The objective of this paper is to review the MCFT and apply it for the prediction of the response and shear strength of reinforced concrete beams A Parametric analysis was Performed on a reinforced T-section concrete beam to evaluate and compare the effects of concrete strength. longitudinal reinforcement ratio shear reinforcement ratio, and shear span to depth ratio in two different approaches the MCFT and the ACI code. The analytical study showed that the concrete contribution to shear strength by the MCFT was higher than the one by the ACI code in beams without stirrups, while it was lower with stirrups. On the other hand. shear reinforcement contribution predicted by the MCFT was much higher than the one by the ACI code. This is because the inclination angle of shear crack is much smaller than 45$^{\circ}$assumed in the ACI code.

  • Strength anisotropy is a typical feature of thin-bedded rock masses and their strength will be degraded subjected to water immersion effect. Such effect is crucial for the operation of hydropower plant because the impoundment lifts the water level of upstream reservoir and causes the rock mass of nearby slopes saturated. So far, researches regarding mechanical property of natural thin-bedded rock masses and their strength variation under water immersion based on field test method are rarely reported. This paper focuses on a thin-bedded stratified rock mass and carries out field test to investigate the mechanical property and strength variation characteristics. The field test is highlighted by samples which have a large shear dimension of 0.5 m*0.5 m, representing a more realistic in-situ situation than small size specimen. The test results confirm the anisotropic nature of the concerned rock mass, whose shear strength of host rocks is significantly larger than that of bedding planes. Further, the comparison of shear strength parameters of the thin-bedded rock mass under natural and saturated conditions show that for both host rocks and bedding planes, the decreasing extent of cohesion values are larger than friction values. The quantitative results are then adopted to analyze the influence of reservoir impoundment of a hydropower plant on the surrounding rock mass stability of diversion tunnels which are located in the nearby slope bank. It is evaluated that after reservoir impoundment, the strength degradation induced incremental deformations of surrounding rock mass of diversion tunnels are small and the stresses in lining structure are acceptable. It is therefore concluded that the influences of impoundment are small and the stability of diversion tunnels can be still achieved. The finings regarding field test method and its results, as well as the numerical evaluation conclusions are hoped to provide references for rock projects with similar concerns.

  • In the present study, the high strength concrete which is adequate for the long span PC beam above 40 meters has been developed. The optimum cement for high strength concerete was selected through laboratory tests and in-situ mock-up applications. The optical concrete mix design was performed, and the properties of fresh concrete and hardened concrete have been investigated. These results of laboratory study are analized and compared to domestic and foregn design codes and specifications. Finally, the developed high strength concrete was applied to half-scale PSC beams and showed good applicability in field conditions. It is conclude that hte developed high strength concrete can be applied to civil and architectural structures in the field applications.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a strength control model for application of variety internal condition at construction field. The results of this study were shown as follows ; 1) According to results of compressive strength of concrete by using equivalent age, new curve is applicable of construction field because there is similar relation with logistic curve. 2) It is shown that the construction period is shorten by reduction of the formwork removal time, because a predicted compressive strength of using the new curve is high than proposed compressive strength of standard.
