  • This study was performed to test the applicability of the ozone/hydroxy radical reaction system, which applied advanced oxidation processes, to remove total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) from the fine soil in washing water of the soil washing process. Removal efficiency was tested on 40 L of washing water in a pilot reaction tank. Fine soil contaminated with $800mg\;kg^{-1}$ TPH was prepared at 5% and 10% suspended solids. Testing conditions included ozone/hydroxy radical flow rates of 40, 80, and $120L\;min^{-1}$, and processing time of 2 to 12 hours. The removal efficiency of petroleum hydrocarbon from water waster by ozone/hydroxy radical was increased with higher flow rates and lower percentages of suspended solids. Optimal efficiency was achieved at $80L\;min^{-1}$ flow rate for 4 hours for the 5% suspended solids, and $120L\;min^{-1}$ for 6 hours for the 10% suspended solids. These results verified the efficiency of hydroxy radical in removing TPH and the applicability of the ozone/hydroxy radical reaction system in the field.

  • Composition Presplitting Angle Cut (COPA-Cut) is a newly developed blasting method for tunnel excavation. Contrary to existing methods, COPA-Cut first creates presplitting by tension crack in cut. In this study, field tests measuring the advance efficiency, noise and ground vibration were performed in order to verify the presplitting effect. To compare the economy and workability, tests were simultaneously performed by COPA-Cut and existing method on the same condition. Results show that COPA-Cut increased advance efficiency and decreased noise and ground vibration. Also, it was confirmed that COPA-Cut is superior to existing method in terms of economy, workability and quality control.

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to test the feasibility and acceptability of a new workers' health surveillance (WHS) for fire fighters in a Dutch pilot-implementation project. Methods: In three fire departments, between November 2007 and February 2009, feasibility was tested with respect to i) worker intent to change health and behavior; ii) the quality of instructions for testing teams; iii) the planned procedure in the field; and iv) future WHS organisation. Acceptability involved i) satisfaction with WHS and ii) verification of the job-specificity of the content of two physical tests of WHS. Fire fighters were surveyed after completing WHS, three testing teams were interviewed, and the content of the two tests was studied by experts. Results: Feasibility: nearly all of the 275 fire fighters intended to improve their health when recommended by the occupational physician. The testing teams found the instructions to be clear, and they were mostly positive about the organisation of WHS. Acceptability: the fire fighters rated WHS at eight points (out of a maximum of ten). The experts also reached a consensus about the optimal job-specific content of the future functional physical tests. Conclusion: Overall, it is feasible and acceptable to implement WHS in a definitive form in the Dutch fire-fighting sector.

  • Now a performance process of Demolition works is 'Before-Removal & After-Classification' method in Korea. This method is short of demolition time, but construction wastes contained substances lower recycling rate of construction, raise expenses of reclamation & treatment. Then the government has decided upon a positive 'Before-Classification & After-Removal' method, and substantially raise a recycling rate of construction wastes. Therefore, this study makes an investigation into state of internal and external demolition field through evaluating technological level, we make a proposal of dismantling method from there. Also, we put dismantling to the test in an apartment by proposed work process. As the result, it made a term of works increased for removing interior material. To solve this problem, we need to develop tools and methods of construction that can remove efficiently. From now on, we continuously need to study a breakdown system of dismantling, analysis of dismantling process and general system by inspecting entire demolition process. And we have to study details for making a specific thesis of method of removing interior material which was based on developing a suitable partial demolition machine and dismantling works.

  • Rice is one of the most important crop in the world and is a major export of Thailand. Optical sensors are not useful for rice monitoring, because most cultivated areas are often obscured by cloud during the growing period, especially in South East Asia. Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) such as RADARSAT, can see through regardless of weather condition which make it possible to monitor rice growth and to retrieve rice acreage, using the unique temporal signature of rice fields. This paper presents the result of a study of examining the backscatter behavior of rice using multi-temporal RADARSAT dataset. Ground measurements of paddy parameters and water and soil condition were collected. The ground truth information was also used to identify mature rice crops, orchard, road, residence, and aquaculture ponds. Land use class distributions from the RADARSAT image were analyzed. Comparison of the mean DB of each land use class indicated significant differences. Schematic representation of temporal backscatter of rice crop were plotted. Based on the study carried out in Pathum Thani Province test site, the results showed variation of sigma naught from first tillering vegatative phase until ripenning phase. It is suggested that at least, three radar data acquisitions taken at 3 stages of rice growth circle namely; those are at the beginning of rice growth when the field is still covered with water, in the ear differentiation period, and at the beginning of the harvest season, are required for rice monitoring. This pilot project was an experimental one aiming at future operational rice monitoring and potential yield predicttion.
