  • Recently, a variety of modeling studies have been conducted to examine the air quality over South Korea during the Korea - United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) campaign period (May 1 to June 10, 2016). This study investigates the impact of different meteorological initializations on atmospheric modeling results. We conduct several simulations during the KORUS-AQ period using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with two different initial datasets, which is FNL of NCEP and ERA5 of ECMWF. Comparing the raw initial data, ERA5 showed better accuracy in the temperature, wind speed, and mixing ratio fields than those of NCEP-FNL. On the other hand, the results of WRF simulations with ERA5 showed better accuracy in the simulated temperature and mixing ratio than those with FNL, except for wind speed. Comparing the nudging efficiency of temperature and wind speed fields, the grid nudging effect on the FNL simulation was larger than that on the ERA5 simulation, but the results of mixing ratio field was the opposite. Overall, WRF simulation with ERA5 data showed a better performance for temperature and mixing ratio simulations than that with FNL data. For wind speed simulation, however, WRF simulation with FNL data indicated more accurate results compared to that with ERA5 data.

  • In personalized marketing, it is important to maximize customer satisfaction and marketing efficiency. As personalized campaigns are frequently performed, several campaigns are frequently run simultaneously. The multiple recommendation problem occurs when we perform several personalized campaigns simultaneously. This implies that some customers may be bombarded with a considerable number of campaigns. We raise this issue and formulate the multi-campaign assignment problem to solve the issue. We propose dynamic programming method and various heuristic algorithms for solving the problem. With field data, we also present experimental results to verify the importance of the problem formulation and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

  • The importance of ozone monitoring has been growing due to the polar ozone depletion and increasing tropospheric ozone concentration over many Asian countries, including South Korea. In-situ measurement of the vertical ozone structure has advantages for ozone research, but observations are not sufficient. In this study, ozonesonde measurements were performed from October to November in Yongin during the GMAP (The GEMS Map of Air Pollution) 2021 campaign. The procedure for ozonesonde preparation and initial analysis of the observed ozone profile are documented. The observed ozone concentrations are in good agreement with previous studies in the troposphere, and they capture the stratospheric ozone distribution as well, including stratosphere-troposphere exchange event. These balloon-borne in situ measurements can contribute to the evaluation of remote sensing measurements such as Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS). This document focuses on providing essential information of ozonesonde preparation and measurement for domestic researchers.

  • In spite of economic slump of global IT market, China is showing growth of 25% per year. After opening economy, the economic growth of the country haven't flagged. Moreover, according to the economic plan of the President HuJinTao who took office in 2002, IT field has been developing quickly. Even through such development is enough to show off the ability of China in the wrld, it is also a fact that there are many side effects. Among them, the imbalance of development between the east and the west is disturbing the general Chinese development. So the government is making efforts to reduce the gap as a solution, "Go West campaign". While progressing the policy, the related law which restricted domestic demand market advance in 2000 has been abolished. We also have an opportunity for launching the west of China at the same line with other developed countries. Based on such realities, we are going to research the general present state and policy of Chinese IT industries and the direction in which we have to go by investigating the situation of the western area is suggested.

  • In this study, the ionic composition of volcanogenically derived particles and their temporal and spatial distributions have been investigated to evaluate the impact of the volcanic eruption on the local ecosystem and residents. To this end, an intensive field study was conducted to measure the size-segregated particulate matters at the east part of Sakurajima in Japan. Fractionated sampling of particles into > $PM_{10}$, $PM_{10-2.5}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ was made by a multi nozzle cascade impactor (MCI). The concentration of various ions present in the size-resolved particles was determined by Ion chromatography. The time dependent 3-dimensional Volcanic Ash Forecast Transport And Dispersion (VAFTAD) model developed by the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) indicated that the sampling site of this work was affected by the volcanic aerosol particles plume. The temporal distributions of sulfate and $PM_{2.5}$ during the field campaign were significantly variable with important contributions to particle mass concentration. The chlorine loss, suspected to be caused by acidic components of volcanic gases, occurred predominantly in fine particles smaller than $10\;{\mu}m$.

  • Space-born remote sensing camera systems tend to be developed to have very high performances. They are developed to provide extremely small ground sample distance, wide swath width, and good MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) at the expense of big volume, massive weight, and big power consumption. Therefore, the camera system occupies relatively big portion of the satellite bus from the point of mass and volume. However, the camera systems for lunar exploration don't need to have such high performances. Instead, it should be versatile for various usages under various operating environments. It should be light and small and should consume small power. In order to be used for national program of lunar exploration, electro-optical versatile camera system, called MAEPLE (Multi-Application Electro-Optical Payload for Lunar Exploration), has been designed after the derivation of camera system requirements. A ground model of the camera system has been manufactured to identify and secure relevant key technologies. The ground model was mounted on an aircraft and checked if the basic design concept would be valid and versatile functions implemented on the camera system would worked properly. In this paper, results of design and functional test performed with the field campaigns and air-born imaging are introduced.
