  • Globular clusters(GCs) are found not only around galaxies (galaxy GCs), but also between galaxies in galaxy clusters (intracluster GCs; ICGCs). The ICGCs, which are not bound to any of cluster member galaxies, are governed by the galaxy clutster potential. ICGCs have been detected in the wide field of Virgo and Fornax galaxy clusters. However, previous surveys covered only a small fraction of Coma and Perseus. In this study we present a wide field survey of these two galaxy clusters, using Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam(HSC) archival images, covering a circular field with diameter of ~1.8 deg. We select ICGC candidates, by masking the images of bright galaxies and choosing point sources in the remaining area. We find thousands of ICGCs in each galaxy cluster. These ICGCs show a bimodal color distribution, which is dominated by blue GCs. We investigate spatial distributions and radial number density profiles of the blue and red ICGCs in each galaxy cluster. Implications of the results will be discussed.

  • Growth of ginseng and physical properties of soil were compared with bed height in experimental plots of sand loam for four year and clay loam soil for three year old ginseng plants, respectively. Field survey was also carried out to compare yield and soil physical properties with bed height in the same fold of six years old ginseng fields. High yield of ginseng root was observed at high bed both in the experimental plots and field survey as well. The rate of rusty root was significantly reduced at high bed. Soil porosity increased but soil hardness decreased at high bed.

  • The environmental survey in advance in the construction works is very important for planning and designing as well as the service of field survey before carrying out construction. The topographical application of spatial information coupled with USN is the very economical method for the survey and research every processing stage of construction field in advance. Therefore the execution of very important role for environmental planning and fundamental designing of construction reduces the unnecessary trial and error through the environmental survey in advance. In this research the environment of existent construction field is transformed to that of digital spatial information by fusing the sensor network with wireless technique on the base of spatial position. In addition, the sink sensor cumulates the environmental data measured from each USN sensor using small wireless environmental sensors installed at the construction site and changes of various environmental data at the present constructing site are able to be monitored at 3-D topographical space in real time by using the method for transmitting the image of PC output based on TinyOS.

  • Interests in ecosystem services have increased and a number of attempts to perform a quantitative valuation on them have been undertaken. To classify the ecosystem types landcover classification maps are generally used. However, some forest types on landcover classification maps have a number of errors. The purpose of this study is to verify the forest types on the landcover map by using a variety of field survey data and to suggest an improved method for forest type classifications. Forest types are compared by overlaying the landcover classification map with the 4th forest type map, and then they are verified by using National Forest Inventory, 3rd National Ecosystem Survey and field survey data. Misclassifications of forest types are found on the forest on the forest type map and farm and other grassland on the landcover map. Some errors of forest types occur at Daegu, Busan and Ulsan metropolitan cities and Gangwon province. The results of accuracy in comprehensive classification show that deciduous forest is 76.1%; coniferous forest is 54.0%; and mixed forest is 22.2%. In order to increase the classification accuracy of forest types a number of remote sensing images during various time periods should be used and the survey period of NFI and the National Forest Inventory and National Ecosystem Survey should be consistent. Also, examining areas with wide forest patch should be prioritized during the field survey in order to decrease any errors.

  • The purpose of this study, was to examine and understand the possibility of introducing a standard field training semester system and the possibility of operating an autonomous field training semester system that can be operated without payment and propose a response strategy based on their perception survey conducted with the field training institutions. As a result of the study, first, it is apparent that the practice institution shows a very low perception of operating hours and operating methods, including the allocation of job-related training hours. Second, the introduction status of standard field practice turned out to be very low, while the introduction status of standard field practice, operation and agreement, change of standard field practice, specific details of standard field practice contract, and satisfaction of standard field practice turned out to be very low. Based on which, this study considers the introduction of standard field practice based on the reference research including surveys, such as the amendments of the relevan laws, adoption of standard field practice semesters or autonomous field practice semesters, securing and sharing sufficient field practice manuals, among others.

  • Despite many criticisms that topographic survey data for the official land price appraising collected annually using field survey method might be inaccurate, there is only few concrete research on it. This paper investigated whether the topographic survey data collected by a local government using field survey method is consistent with the data analyzed using the digital elevation model to examine its accuracy. The accuracy analysis indicated that 324 out of 1537 lots of land have inconsistent results which means the ratio of inconsistency is 17.36%. Among 11 areas studied, five had the inconsistency ratio above 20% while the worst one had 38.71%. The inconsistency ratio is generally higher for the rough terrain with irregular slope and high altitude while it is relatively lower for the terrain with smooth landform. The analysis results imply that there are limitations in investigating the topology by field survey method. Therefore, the official land price appraising policy should set precise criterion and change over to highly accurate geographic information analysis method to effectively and accurately examine topology, given the fact that the topology of the Republic of Korea has complicated features with irregular slope and altitude.

  • The present study analyzed feedback from prospective teachers on field experiences in terms of their satisfaction and perceptions on the appropriateness of length and timing, benefits, and problems. Data were collected through a survey administered to seniors at a national university of education who completed all of the field experiences the university offered. The survey questionnaire consisted of 25 5point Likert scale questions and 15 open-ended questions. A total of 353 survey questionnaires were distributed, and 326 were returned. Analyses of the data revealed that satisfaction level on field experiences and the appropriateness of length and timing, benefits and problems the participating prospective teachers perceived by the respondents differed according to the types of field experiences. Based on these results, the study discusses implications and provides suggestions for improvement.

  • We describe a survey of nearby core-collapse supernova (SN) explosion sites using integral field spectroscopy (IFS) techniques, which is an extension of the work described in Kuncarayakti et al. (2013). The project aims to constrain SN progenitor properties based on the study of the immediate environment of the SN. The stellar populations present at the SN explosion sites are studied by means of integral field spectroscopy, which enables the acquisition of both spatial and spectral information of the object simultaneously. The spectrum of the SN parent stellar population gives an estimate of its age and metallicity. With this information, the initial mass and metallicity of the once coeval SN progenitor star are derived. While the survey is mostly done in optical, the additional utilization of near-infrared integral field spectroscopy assisted with adaptive optics (AO) enables us to examine the explosion sites in high spatial detail, down to a few parsecs. This work is being carried out using multiple 2-8 m class telescopes equipped with integral field spectrographs in Chile and Hawaii.
