As one of the most important engineering structures, arch dams are huge constructions built with human hands and have strategical importance. Because of the fact that long construction duration, water supply, financial reasons, major loss of life and material since failure etc., the design of arch dams is very important problem and should be done by expert engineers to determine the structural behavior more accurately. Finite element analyses and non-destructive experimental measurements can be used to investigate the structural response, but there are some difficulties such as spending a long time while modelling, analysis and in-situ testing. Therefore, it is more useful to conduct the research on the laboratory conditions and to transform the obtained results into real constructions. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to determine the structural behavior of arch dams considering experimentally validated prototype laboratory model using similitude and scaling laws. Type-1 arch dam, which is one of five arch dam types suggested at the "Arch Dams" Symposium in England in 1968 is selected as reference prototype model. The dam is built considering dam-reservoir-foundation interaction and ambient vibration tests are performed to validate the finite element results such as dynamic characteristics, displacements, principal stresses and strains. These results are considered as reference parameters and used to determine the real arch dam response with different scales factors such as 335, 400, 416.67 and 450. These values are selected by considering previously examined dam projects. Arch heights are calculated as 201 m, 240 m, 250 m and 270 m, respectively. The structural response is investigated between the model and prototype by using similarity requirements, field equations, scaling laws etc. To validate these results, finite element models are enlarged in the same scales and analyses are repeated to obtain the dynamic characteristics, displacements, principal stresses and strains. At the end of the study, it is seen that there is a good agreement between all results obtained by similarity requirements with scaling laws and enlarged finite element models.
A demand for the aggregates is increasing in the field of civil and architectural industry and so on. In these industries, the particle size and shape of aggregates are important factors and especially spherical or rounded particles are desired. In Japan, waste glass is used as one of the aggregate materials for the pavement or the construction. In this study based on the frictional action of material on each other, an autogenous grinding of silica glass with a stirred mill were carried out in order to eliminate flakelike or squarish particles and get spherical or rounded ones for aggregate materials. The autogenous grinding experiments were conducted by applying loads to the particle layer of silica glass. The particle shape was evaluated by the shape index, N/T and the degree of circularity, Ψ$_{ci}$ . The unfractured particles (20~13mm) were evaluated by N/T and Ψ$_{ci}$ , and the products (finer than 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) by Ψ$_{ci}$ . As a result, N/T of the unfractured particles decreased with an increase of grinding time. Ψ$_{ci}$ of the unfractured particles and the products increased with an increase of grinding time (; progress of grinding), and became almost constant in the long time grinding. These tendencies were not changed by the applied load on the particle layer, but the limit value of Ψ$_{ci}$ at the products were varied with the applied load.plied load.
This study was conducted to identify the effective dyainage-time influencing rice yield and grain quality on a reclaimed saline soil, the experiment conducted at the Gyehwado substation of the Honam Agricultural Research Institute from 2002 to 2003. The experimental field contained $0.1\%\;and\;0.3\~0.4\%$ NaCl in soil solution, respectively. The experiment involved salinity levels as main plot and sub-plot where consisted of 6 treatments in a split plot design with three replicates. Rice yield performance showed a maximum at drainage-time for 35 days after flowering under medium salinity level, but indicated only $64\%$ of yield level compare to low soil salinity. Percentage of well-shaped rice was high in low soil salinity indicating there aye severe affection for grain quality in medium soil salinity regardless water drainage-time.

A robust, accurate, broad-band, alternating current sensor using fiber-optics is being developed as a part of optical over current protection relay system. The sensor uses the Faraday effect in optical fiber and polarimetric measurements tc sense electrical current. The current sensing coil consists of a length of twisted optical fiber and Faraday rotator mirror to suppress the linear birefringence effect. Due to its single-ended closed path structure, it can not only be easily installed to the target with great isolation from other fields in the vicinity, but the sensitivity can be increased by using multiple turns. This paper reports on the theoretical backgrounds of the sensor design and the preliminary experimental results.
The cover liners at municipal and hazardous waste landfill is not emphasized as much as the bottom liners. However, one of the most effective reason of landfill destroy is the cover liner failure. The cover system at municipal and hazardous waste landfill, 1 perform the following functions, at minimum: promote surface runoff, impede infiltration, protect settlement in the landfill, and provide a buffer from surface exposure of the waste. This research was to expand the existing knowledge base of landfill cover liner behavior during period of freeze/thaw Also, the great Lysimeter was built in the laboratory to provide as much as same condition with the field and three designs were simulated by actual cover materials. The result of simulation indicated the clay was effected by freezing/thawing. The degradation of cover liners in the frost penetration affects the physical, engineering properties of clay. these factors may consider to design and construct of the landfill. This paper provides the description of testing cover liners, experimental results and a discussion of the results of the simulation.

We propose a logic synthesis algorithm for the design of FPGAs operating at high speed. FPGA is a novel technology that provides programmability in the field. Because of short turnaround time and low manufacturing cost, FPGA has been noticed as an ideal device for system prototyping. Despite these merits, FPGA has drawbacks, namely low integration and long delay time comparing to ASIC. The proposed algorithm partitions a given circuit into subcircuits utilizing a kernel divisor such that the subcircuits can be performed at the same time, hence reducing the delay of the circuit. Experimental results on the MCNC benchmark show that the proposed algorithm is effective by generating circuits having 19.1% les delay on average, when compared to the FlowMap algorithm.

A Two-year field experiment was carried out in 2009 and 2010 to evaluate the effects of different densities of wild oat and nitrogen (N) rates on oilseed rape yield and yield components. Experimental design was split plot with three replications. Increased nitrogen rates up to 150 kg N/ha caused an increase in oilseed rape grain yield in weed-free plots (4.26 t/ha; 1t = $10^3kg$), while even at the lowest density of wild oat (15 $plants/m^2$), increasing N fertilizer only up to 50 kg/ha led to a significant increase in grain yield. Wild oat growth was favored by high levels of N. Intraspecific competition reduced biomass, 100-seed weight and number of tillers of wild oat. Both lower N rate and intraspecific competition had negative effect on wild oat growth but the weed was still able to produce a considerable number of tillers and vigorous seeds. It showed that wild oat possess a notable adaptive plasticity and can allocate a greater proportion of its resource toward reproductive organs even under resource shortage conditions and, thus, it may increase the competitive ability of the weed over the crop. Our results suggest that effective weed management should be done to prevent wild oat seed production in crops preceding oilseed rape as well as to control the weed at early season in oilseed rape fields.
An experimental study, which included four 305mm-diameter test shafts, one reference shaft with standard design and three test shafts with isolation tubes, is described. The soil was also soil heave and shrinkage that occur during suction changes at the field site. The test shafts were monitored for a period of about 18 months. Maximum ground movements exceeding 35mm were observed. Movements of only 1 to 2mm were observed in the test shafts with isolation tubes, while movements of 4 to 5mm were observed in the reference shaft. A simple computing model was developed to predict, based on suction changes, the maximum amount of ground heave. Relationship among suction. total stress, and volumetric strain was abtained in the laborstory. This relationship, used as inputs to the predictive model, enabled the computation of the maximum ground heave.

In recent decades there has been a trend towards improved mechanical characteristics of materials used in footbridge construction. It has enabled engineers to design lighter, slender and more aesthetic structures. As a result of these construction trends, many footbridges have become more susceptible to vibrations when subjected to dynamic loads. In addition to this, some inherit modelling uncertainties related to a lack of information on the as-built structure, such as boundary conditions, material properties, and the effects of non-structural elements make difficult to evaluate modal properties of footbridges, analytically. For these purposes, modal testing of footbridges is used to rectify these problems after construction. This paper describes an arch type steel footbridge, its analytical modelling, modal testing and finite element model calibration. A modern steel footbridge which has arch type structural system and located on the Karadeniz coast road in Trabzon, Turkey is selected as an application. An analytical modal analysis is performed on the developed 3D finite element model of footbridge to provide the analytical frequencies and mode shapes. The field ambient vibration tests on the footbridge deck under natural excitation such as human walking and traffic loads are conducted. The output-only modal parameter identification is carried out by using the peak picking of the average normalized power spectral densities in the frequency domain and stochastic subspace identification in the time domain, and dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies mode shapes and damping ratios are determined. The finite element model of footbridge is calibrated to minimize the differences between analytically and experimentally estimated modal properties by changing some uncertain modelling parameters such as material properties. At the end of the study, maximum differences in the natural frequencies are reduced from 22% to only %5 and good agreement is found between analytical and experimental dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies, mode shapes by model calibration.
The present study observes collaboration methods in which 3D printing was a part of the fashion manufacturing process, expression methods of such cases, and their ripple effects. As a result, the three types of collaborations between fashion designers and other industry fields, fashion brands and 3D printing companies, and fashion designers and artists. Case analysis results and ripple effects found according to each collaboration method were as follows. First, in collaborations found were between fashion designers and other industry fields, 3D printed fashion works with futuristic images were seen through the fusion of future industries, which claim to support cutting edge digital technology, and creative fashion design. As they were mainly collaborations between automobile industries with cutting edge images or digital related industries and fashion designers, they were expressed as a new form of experimental clothing, and were used as strategies to improve future corporate images of the high tech industry. Second, in collaborations between fashion brands and 3D printing technology businesses, the sporting good brands and the shoe industry attempted to let their products be known through the promotion of functional material or ergonomic technology. While they emphasize practicality by mainly using flexible material, they were mainly proposed as functional sporting goods for famous players or as shoe accessories, so methods are still used for public distribution as brand promoting marketing strategies. Third, with collaborations between fashion designers and artists, creative pieces were shown through the grafting of 3D printing technology, the artistry of artists, and the experimentation of fashion designers. In particular, the innovative value of fashion as art was created through the union of the artistic 3D modeling technology support of artists and the creativity of designers. Like this, 3D printing fashion can graft the cutting edge nature of fashion to other industry fields through collaborations, enhancing pacesetting images, and in the fashion field, it can improve possibilities for innovations in the fashion industry through the support of 3D printing technology businesses and artists, raising expectations towards future human living.
