  • This study employed the Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method incorporated with mean field theory to investigate the Internal stress of short fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites during static loading and the dynamic finite element analysis by using alternative unit cell model to investigate the impact behaviors during the impact loading. Using the 2124 Al-SiC system as an example, the general effects of parameters such as fiber's aspect ratio, content and modulus were examined.

  • In this paper, dynamic behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) by experimental method is discussed. Because of its improved ability to dissipate energy, impact resistance and fatigue behavior, SFRC has a better dynamic behavior than that of plain concrete. Dynamic behavior is influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete and the stress level. Impact resistance and damping in the SFRC has been evaluated from dynamic experimental test data at various levels of cracked states in the elements

  • In this paper, the frequency separation locking and interval stabilization of 4-channel DFB-LDs have been demonstrated using a fiber Fabry-Perot filter with an free spectral range of 100GHz. Frequency fluctuation and locking range of each channel were appeared to be within 15MHz and over 12GHz, respectively. Back-reflection curve from the fiber Fabry-Perot filter was used for the extraction of an error signal in order to increase the number of accomodable channels and extinction ratio.

  • A Signal processor for the open-loop fiber optic gyroscope(FOG) is equipped with a stabilizer to reduce the error due to drift of fiber phase modulator (FPM). The stabilizer is designed to be operated to maintain the ratio of amplitude and phase between harmonics in the FOG signal. When FPM stabilizer is used, the temperature drift of FOG is reduced to less than 0.5 deg/hr in change of 20$^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, the crack properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFHC) beams by experimental method are discussed. The major role played by the steel fiber occurs in the post-cracking zone, in which the fibers bridge across the cracked matrix. Because of its improved ability to break crack, SFRC has better crack properties than that of reinforced concrete (RC). Crack properties are influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete and the stress level. Crack width and crack number in the SFRC beams havebeen evaluated from experimental test data at various levels in the beams.

  • This experimental were investigated on the influence of steel fiber reinforcement on flexural behavior characteristics of slabs with various steel fiber contents $V_f$ and aspect ratio($\ell $/$\phi$). Deflection, crack widths, and strains of steel bar were measured with every load step. In the results of this experimental, the addition of steel fibers to conventionally reinforced concrete slab increased the ultimate load, reduced the creak width, the average crack spacing, and deflection.

  • SiC and its composites have been considered for use as nuclear fuel cladding materials of pressurized light water reactors. In this study, a $SiC_f$/SiC composite as a constituent layer of SiC triplex fuel cladding was fabricated using a chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process in which tubular SiC fiber preforms were prepared using a filament winding method. To enhance the matrix density of the composite layer, winding patterns, deposition temperature, and gas input ratio were controlled. Fiber arrangement and porosity were the main parameters influencing densification behaviors. Final density of the composites decreased as the SiC fiber volume fraction increased. The CVI process was optimized to densify the tubular preforms with high fiber volume fraction at a high $H_2$/MTS ratio of 20 at $1000^{\circ}C$; in this process, surface canning of the composites was effectively retarded.

  • In this study, the equivalent elastic modulus of flexible textile composites was predicted by nonlinear finite element analysis. The analysis was carried out considering the material nonlinearity of fiber tows and the geometrical nonlinearity during large deformation using commercial analysis software, ABAQUS. To account for the geometrical nonlinearity due to the large shear deformation of fiber tows, a user defined material algorithm was developed and inserted in ABAQUS. In results, nonlinear stress-strain curve for the flexible textile composites under uni-axial tension was predicted from which effective elastic modulus was obtained and compared to the test result. The effective elastic moduli were calculated for the various finite element models with different waviness ratio of fiber tow.
